Beautifully situated tranquil cottage in the Comeragh Mountains. Sleeps 2/4
Heating and electricity is included in the rental price - no hidden extras!.
High quality bed linen and towels for your personal use, and for the kitchen, are provided free of charge. Please supply your own beach towels.
We also provide consumables such as washing liquids and soaps, cleaning materials, toilet rolls etc..
We clean the cottage ourselves, ready for your stay, so on your arrival you will find everything to be spotlessly clean.
On your arrival, you will find a 'welcome pack' of tea, coffee, milk, sugar, butter, and delicious... local bread rolls, or 'blas', unique to County Waterford.
The cottage is situated next door to our own residence, so we are there if you need us., but it is designed so that your access is totally private.
The entrance is via a gate from a tiny lane, which leads straight in to your parking area. A flight of 7 shallow steps leads from the parking area to your cottage door.
You are bound to notice the quality of the air here, it really is mountain pure and pollution free, and we're sure you'll appreciate the water - it is delicious and comes from 160 feet down in our own well.
Beside the parking area is an elevated walled garden for your own private use, with garden table and chairs. All around the cottage are just fields and mountain views.
The cottage has matching close-carpeting in the living room, bedroom and entrance hall, high quality cushion flooring in the kitchen and bathroom areas, and has been tastefully furnished and decorated throughout.
Modern gas-fired central heating (included in the rental price) is installed throughout the cottage, and you can set this to 'your' required temperature by using the thermostats on each radiator
The bedroom has twin beds, an en-suite shower-room (shower, toilet and washbasin), bedside cabinet, chest of drawers etc..
The living room has two easy chairs and a sofa that can convert to a double bed (a good one!) if required. Additionally there is a coffee table, colour television with satellie connection, dvd and video, occasional table, and a bookcase full of books, jigsaw puzzles and general information brochures.
The kitchen has high-quality fittings and furnishings. These include:
A fridge with large freezer compartment, a 4 ring electric hob, a combi-microwave which functions as a microwave or a conventional oven or a grill, a toaster and electric kettle etc..
All the cooking utensils you will need are provided and we have also provided more than the normal 'one per person' ratio of crockery, cutlery and glassware (isn't it irritating when there's only one of everything - all that fiddly washing up!).
Also there is an iron, ironing board, clothes line and pegs
The entrance hall has a large fitted wardrobe.
Bleantis Mountain Cottage is located on a tiny lane which leads directly onto Bleantasour Mountain (part of the Monavullagh range) just 1 km away. We have no immediate neighbouring properties and our area is classified by our local council as "Rural, Mountain and Moorland".
The nearest small shop, which has all the 'basics', is 5 mins drive away. The nearest pub is 10 mins drive away. Since this is a very rural area there is no public transport but local taxis are very reasonably priced.
You are free to roam anywhere, and on Bleantasour mountain there are panoramic views of the Knockmealdown mountains to the west, the Galtee mountains to the north, and the Comeragh mountains to the east. From here you can roam across the Monavullagh mountains themselves or trek across the 'tops' to the famous Nire Valley or onto the craggy Comeragh mountain range.
This area is a walker's paradise for all abilities - winter, spring, autumn or summer the mountains display magnificent and different scenery.
For bird watchers, we see peregrine falcons (we had one in our back garden!), hen harriers, golden plovers, ravens, larks and many, many other bird types. In fact we have such an abundance of birds of differing types that we are members of BirdWatch Ireland, and help to record sightings of unusual birds.
In spring primroses and violets are everywhere around us. In summer the heather blooms and the mountains are a blaze of colour. In autumn and winter the greys and greens and russets of the mountains show them at their most rugged - sometimes with snow-dusted tops - and the mountains turn red at sunset - a fabulous sight.Read more

Additional Location Information
Co. Waterford has a stunning coastline and many safe (mostly empty!) beaches, mountains, rivers, valleys, loughs, loads of historic sights, and things to do. The only thing it lacks is hordes of visitors - because they don't know it's here!
Our area of County Waterford is known as Sliabh gCua (pronounced Schleeve Gooa), and is renowned for its traditional music, played for locals by locals, and its dancing – our local Sliabh gCua Set dancers and musicians having won many honours at national level. So there’s rarely a night when music isn’t being played in one of our hostelries.
In May we don’t sleep(!) for four days whilst we celebrate the Feile na Deise, the annual song and dance festival held in Dungarvan.
The local harbour town of Dungarvan (20 mins drive) has a very relaxed and happy atmosphere where complete strangers will greet you on the street.
Three Dungarvan hotels allow you to use their extensive leisure and pool facilities at very reasonable prices, and there are 3 top class golf courses for you to enjoy, just in the Dungarvan area alone!
Additionally, the Ring peninsula on Dungarvan bay is one of the 6 Gaeltacht locations in Ireland, where Irish is spoken as the first language.
There is plenty to do within easy reach by car. Waterford, Clonmel, Carrick on Suir, Cashel, Kilkenny, Dungarvan, Youghal and Cork all have museums, historic sites and visitor attractions. Unlike many 'rural' or 'beach' locations, there are plenty of things to do if it rains! It sometimes does here, but not as often as legend would have it!
