This comfortable, private, fully modernized cabin, built in the 1940s, is surrounded on three sides by the north fork of the New River. The interior of the house is comfortable and attractive. The kitchen and library were constructed in unusual woods by a master builder. All beds have high end mattresses, and the upstairs sitting room has a fold-out futon sofa for extra sleepers. The river passes noisily within twenty feet of the back deck, and from there one can see the highest elevations of Three Top Mountain. Directly across the river from the back porch is a steep wooded, rhododendron crowded hill where one can glimpse deer and the occasi...onal fox or mink. A favorite fishing spot lies on one end of the nearly two acre property, and the porches, deck, and outdoor benches provide a wonderful invitation to outdoor living. An ample supply of tubes invite the visitor for a pleasant float downstream in the summer months. The small pond attracts bird life and a variety of water creatures. The cabin is sheltered and screened by walls of thick evergreen and is fully private. Not far from incredible trails and views at Elk Knob State Park and surrounded by farms and woodland, this property is a wonderful getaway. Not far from Boone, Blowing Rock, Todd, and West Jefferson, there is much to do in the area from hiking, skiing or fishing to shopping and dining. Of special interest to some visitors is nearby Brew Bikes and the Virginia Creeper trail in Damascus, Virginia where one can make easy, scenic day trips on rental bikes.

  My family and I have been coming to Riverbend Cottage for several years now and we highly recommend it as a destination that offers something for the whole family. It is a marvelous vacation destination that is far enough off the beaten path so that you can enjoy the mountain air and solitude, yet within easy access of local attractions. You can spend the day shopping in Boone, antiquing in West Jefferson, white-water canoeing at Zaloos, exploring a real old-fashioned General Store in Valle Crucis, zip-lining, hiking in the Blue Ridge, or catching a big one at one of the many trout farms nearby. The cabin itself is located about 25 minutes outside of Boone. As you pull up to the house, the first thing you will notice is the amazing landscaping the owners have done. In the summertime, the numerous flowers surround you, and hummingbirds have been known to land next to you on the porch. The house itself sleeps 8-10 people. One of the nicest features of the house is the wrap-around back deck, complete with tables, chairs, a gas grill, and ceiling fans.It is the perfect place to entertain, or enjoy a quiet dinner while listening to the sounds of the New River flowing right past the porch. Or if you are so inclined, wade in the cool river, or drop a line and catch a trout. On those infrequent days when rain might keep you inside, Riverbend has an extensive library, as well as movies and board games. From the moment you arrive, you can tell that the owners have done their best to make you feel that their mountain home is your home. This is a perfect place for you to relax, unwind, and enjoy your vacation.
