‘The Cottage’ is a 200 year old former Weaver’s cottage boasting charm and character. Lots of nooks, crannies and split levels make this an absolutely unique and romantic getaway. The property has been painstakingly furnished to reflect the new and the old, including antique Victorian artifacts, arts and crafts furniture and some clever extra little touches. The lounge with two comfy sofa’s features a brand new wood-burning stove, next to the wooden staircase that takes you up to the gorgeous double and single bedrooms with new beds and mattresses, the shower-room, with walk-in shower cabinet and the relaxing open mezzanine, ideal for... writing post-cards or tucking into a good book. Down-stairs, next to the lounge is a kitchen with gas cooker, fan oven, microwave, toaster and kettle, dishwasher, washing machine and all the crockery, pans and cooking implements you’ll need. Next to the kitchen with a lovely view to the garden, is the dining room; a favourite place of inspiration for one of our local writers!

‘The Cottage’ is smack in the middle of the popular town of Crieff, yet it’s so quiet, you could be miles from anywhere. You could spend your whole time here without needing the car. From ‘The Cottage’, you’re under 5 minutes walk to all that the town has to offer, yet you’re also a stroll away from river walks, hills and forest trails.

The ‘Gateway to the Highlands’ offers the ideal location for your holiday. Nestling amongst the stunning Strathearn countryside, Crieff used to be Drovers town where cattle were driven south from the North. Today, it’s is a friendly, vibrant, market town. Browse through the local art galleries or bookshops, drool over the local hand-made sweet shop or local produce in the deli’s, buy the finest meat and fish from the butcher or fish shop, get fresh bread from the bakery or tuck into a slap up feast at any of a host of restaurants, catering for both Scottish and world cuisine.

But there’s so much more to do. For the walker or mountain biker, there are miles and miles of forest walks, trails and mountains, including Munros such as Ben Chonzie, Ben Vorlich and Stuc a’Croin. Watersports are available at the nearby Lochearnhead, there’s even parachuting at the local Strathallan airfield, where you might spot some balloon enthusiasts too. The River Earn if famous for its trout and salmon fishing and anglers come from all over Britain. Within a few minutes walk at Crieff Hydro, you have an equestrian centre, off-road course, quad-biking, lazer quest, air rifles, archery, sauna, spa, squash. In nearby Comrie, there’s the Auchingarrich wildlife centre. Local whisky distilleries include the Famous Grouse Experience and Tullibardine.

The world famous Gleneagles championship course will be hosting the 2014 Ryder Cup though there are also courses in Auchterarder, Crieff, Comrie, St Fillans and Muthill in stunning countryside and all within about 20 minutes of Crieff. Gleneagles also offers you their world famous shooting and fishing school, an equestrian centre, off-road driving school and falconry.

There’s plenty of wildlife. Crieff is on the flightpath for Canadian geese, so could you be lucky to see squadrons of geese coming in for the day or leaving for the night. But you also get lots of Buzzards, Red Kites and Ospreys, though the locals tend to keep quiet about the location of Osprey nests! As a Drover’s town, you’ll see Highland Cattle, both Red and Roe deer and Red Squirrels. A walk into the hills will usually give you sight of Pheasants, Partridges, Grouse and Capercaillie.

'The Cottage' is located in a quiet part of the centre of Crieff town centre. There is free on-street parking next to the property. The nearest rail stations are at Dunblane and Bridge of Allan, about 20 minutes taxi drive. Buses operated to and from major towns, including Perth, Stirling and Dundee.

  As the website said, it has lots of character being 200 years old. The Cottage has been lovingly furnished and has everything you need. Even cling film and tin foil which we forgot to bring anyway! A really convenient position, in a quiet part of the town where you can walk to all the shops and restaurants as well as the Knock or River Earn walks. Central location - we visited Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness, though not all on the same day!
