Really nice conversion. Spotlessly clean.Great views and great location. Ideal for walking from the door. Cromford is a very interesting little village with a really good book shop. The only reason we won't be returning is the very uncomfortable bed which badly needs a new mattress.

Honeymoon spoilt by very soft bed and broken fridge/freezer

Left on 06/20/2011 for a stay in June 2011

We booked The Barn for a week's stay during our honeymoon break. The check-in was easy and the cleanliness of the cottage was exceptional (have not seen better anywhere). However, the mattress was beyond soft. My wife has back problems and after only one night sleeping on this mattress she was in agony and had to sleep the remaining 5 nights on the sofa downstairs. I don't have back problems but even I was getting a painful back by the end of the week!

This alone spoilt our honeymoon but in addition the fridge/freezer was not working. According to the Visitor's Book, it had been a problem since March (over 2 months before we stayed) but the owners had failed to read the comments. The appliance was cheap (Indesit) and so was not a surprise it had stopped working but the response from the owner when we called was a surprise. He was dismissive of the problem and just said he would pop round to have a look. We left him a note when we were out. When we got back, the note was gone and the fridge/freezer was still not working. He had not left a note (not even to say he had come round and was looking into it) and we did not receive a call back. Complete silence until his wife came to collect the key at the end of our stay.

All in all we would not stay at The Barn again as we were let down and would encourage Sykes (the holiday letting agency) to re-inspect this property as their reputation is at risk if these two serious issues are not resolved swiftly.

Such a lovely setting on a hill overlooking Cromford and Maltock, yet within walking distance from shops and pubs.

exactly what it says on the tin

Left on 05/17/2010 for a stay in March 2010

As advertised in the Sykes brochure, The Barn is an idyllic, peaceful, brilliantly realised conversion: rustic yet comfortable and well-equipped with a perfect location. Just go out the door and you're in the heart of the countryside but shops, pubs etc. are easily accessible. The photo doesn't actually do the place justice but the descriptions are entirely honest and accurate. I'd love to go back. I was on my own but it would be brilliant for couples.

      Comfort in Cromford

Left on 12/21/2009 for a stay in November 2009

Renting this property through Sykes was uncomplicated and quickly arranged. We will certainly use Sykes Corttages again when looking for holiday rental properties.
The Barn was just perfect for us as a couple looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life for a quiet weekend of solitude and escape.
The cottage was small and perfectly formed for two, with every amenity you could need and very well cared for. We would, and have reccommeded it to friends looking for something similar. It is often difficult trying to find cottages for two so it was a great find.
We had contact with the owners when arranging to pick up and drop off keys to the property. They were very helpful and pleasant as too were the neighbours who came to chat when we arrived, giving us some good local tips for places to go and things to see.
Overall a very pleasant weekend was spent in the comfort of a luxurious cottage in a county which has so much to offer. Thank you.

      lovely romantic setting

Left on 12/18/2009 for a stay in June 2009

A beautiful well equippped cottage, very well furnished and with stunning views over the Cromford valley. it was a true home from home, and we would thoroughly recommend it. We had a minor problem with the hot water, but the owner came out at once and sorted it. We found others had had issues with the shower and DVD, but we found no such problems, just used common sense!! the surrounding area is lovely with plenty to do. One small quibble, pubs and shops were not '10 mins walk away' - it was about 20 mins downhill and 30 mins back again
