Description from the manager

Dating back to the 1700's this two bedroom property oozes charm and character, there is a delightful secluded garden which overlooks the stream.

Monks Bridge was built in the 1700's as the village school. It is a house of unusual charm and character, beautifully situated on the edge of a traditional village in the Lyvennet Valley amongst gently rising fells, drystone walls and fine farms. The cottage (named after the ancient bridge over the Lyvennet) retains the original lofty ceilings and arched windows affording views over the beck, the ancient churchyard and the mature and secluded garden.

      Fabulous cottage in idyllic ssetting

Left on 11/21/2012 for a stay in July 2012

Visited Monk's Bridge with my husband in July this year. What a wonderful place! Peaceful and quiet, and the cottage itself has an amazing atmosphere, I struggle to find words to describe it, but somehow nurturing and comforting, like wrapping one's soul in a warm blanket. Everything that one could possibly need was provided. I like to visit lots of different places, so rarely say that I will return anywhere (howevr nice it is!) but Monk's Bridge is one of very few exceptions to that rule. I loved the antiques (I work in the trade) especially the superb ice box! Heartfelt thanks to the owners for creating such a lovely haven

Booking was done with ease, really quick and friendly.
Monks Bridge is a magical place that feels warm and homely. It has amazing history all throughout the house, is well equipped with all you could need. It's location is simply stunning with a beautiful garden to sit in if you have the weather, if not you can sit in the comfort of a conservatory style room that overlooks the water and wild life surrounding you, we spent hours just relaxing and watching the ducks, red squirrels and birds. Crosby is a lovely picturesque village, with lots of other wonderful places close by. We will defiantly be returning next year.

      River Experience

Left on 09/30/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Great place, but quite a drive to lakes, but all part of the fun. Super place, with 2 rivers, the boys enjoyed building dams, feeding the ducks and river walking. Local pub excellent, food is superb. Warm welcome from everybody we met. Off the beaten track, but lots of History, and good base to explore from.

What a lovely place to stay

Left on 09/18/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We had a lovely stay at Monks Bridge Cottage. The accommodation was really nice, full of atmosphere and the enclosed garden made it very private. It was lovely just to sit in the sun room and watch the water go by and to see the many birds and animals that came to vist.
The village was quite, but close enough to the main attractions.
If you are looking for a peaceful holiday with the options to visit the Lakes I could not recommend a nicer place to stay.

what a wonderful property full of character

Left on 08/28/2012 for a stay in July 2012

a wonderful property set in a wonderful location very tranquil with the beck running alongside ideally situated for visits to the lakes or north Yorkshire local coop at Shap which is 3 miles from property or appleby which is a lovely market town 8 miles away the local community owned pub does excellent food with friendly staff. The property has a land line kindly provided by the owners whichis included in the price of the property so you can keep in touch with family in the uk on their land lines mobile and international calls are barred. This is because the mobile phone signal is non existent at the property or in the village. All in all we had a thoroughly comfortable and enjoyable stay.

      Cosy cottage, romantic retreat

Left on 08/19/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We've just returned from a fabulous week long holiday at this accommodation. It is very clean and very spacious in a beautiful tranquil setting. We found it to be well placed to visit the best areas of the lakes, whilst also having some wonderful walks and wildlife right on your doorstep. The local pub 'The Butcher's arms' does super food and is open Tuesday-Sunday, well worth a visit.

      Relaxing, away from it all.

Left on 07/18/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Everything was very simple, from browsing the cottages, to booking the one we choose to following the directions, there was no stress and the service we received was great.
Monks Bridge itself was great, even better than the website claimed, it was homely, comfortable and excellently equipped. Effort had been made to make it feel like you were being welcomed into someones home rather than staying in an impersonal chalet or hotel.
Although Monks Bridge is out of the way, there being only a pub within walking distance (though it is an excellent pub with great food and freindly staff), local places of interest are within an easy drive, Kendal, the Lakes, Penrith are all within an hour, and then you return to peace and tranquility, my favourite part of the stay, sitting in the sun room with a glass of wine, watching the ducks on the bek, totally relaxed.

      Fabulous property!

Left on 07/17/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Monks Bridge was a beautiful property, clean, warm and very comfortable. We were in the area during some of the most severe weather in June 2012. That did not affect our holiday at all, on one of the worst days we lite a log fire, poured some gin & tonics and enjoyed this lovely house!!
Well worth the journey there from Devon. As far as we were concerned Monks Bridge earns 10/10 on all counts. Location, cleanliness etc.etc.

      Lovely Cottage and beautifull village

Left on 06/16/2012 for a stay in May 2012

Lovely cottages, modernised inside. Beautiful open fire and garden next to the stream. Comfortable beds and very clean.

Situated in a pretty village. Pub down the road. Only one disadvantage no internet - for looking up where to go the next day.

Would like to see Tea/Coffee facilities (perhaps with a Cumbrian cake) on arrival, as nearest shops are 7 miles away in appleby.

Ideal setting next to a stream. The cottage is obviously well cared for by the owners and house-keeper. The community pub in the village serves excellent meals and the chips were the best i have ever tasted. Will definately return

Monks Bridge is an exceptional country cottage

Left on 11/12/2011 for a stay in September 2011

We stayed at the cottage in September 2011. The cottage is superb and locality is good - only 20 miles in any direction to the main tourist attractions and lakes. It was heaven returning in the evenings to a cosy log fire.

I could not fault anything about this holiday.

Thanks to the owners who certainly take pride in their cottage.

I would definately book this cottage again.

A Stay in a Working Village

Left on 10/28/2011 for a stay in October 2011

Stayed ealier in the year when unfortunately the sewer works were outside. We abandoned early and promised to return because we liked the house. The house is turned out really well by a local lady. The pub was closed and has now reopened as a community pub so a meal out is easy. The house is ideal for two couples with good facilities. Our only problem was storage heaters. They run out of steam by the end of a cool day and even supplemented by the fire extra input was needed to make the huge sitting room comforable. A lovely place to stay.
