      Gorgeous Cabin

Left on 05/19/2013 for a stay in April 2013

What a magical place! We absolutely loved this cabin. Every morning we woke up to the calming sound of waves and were visited by these beautiful tropical birds. Snorkeling is fantastic and only a few steps away. We discovered the outdoor shower on day 2. What a great bonus! Thanks so much lot for a great experience.

      Hi Jenny!

I'm glad you had such a nice trip, that's exactly what we strive for. You get some serious bonus points for the best cocktail shot (although that turtle shots rocks) to date, thanks for including it and taking the time to share your comments. And, oh yes, that outdoor shower...

Enjoy a great spring and hope to welcome you back!

      Almost perfect...

Left on 04/27/2013 for a stay in March 2013

The location was breathtaking, with the ocean access and a public beach not far away. The quality of the building was okay, though I would price it a little lower for the interior of the building was not of the same quality as other houses/cottages in this price range. We enjoyed the ability to make our own meals and relax on the deck. The accommodations were suitable, with everything we needed, from spices to dishes and appliances. It was clean except for the tiles, which needed a good scrubbing, and the dishwasher which, although not working at the time, had some creepy crawlies in it. There were some sugar ants around, but nothing more than what was expected on the island and the owner tried to deal with this during our visit. The wildlife was entertaining, with the birds, lizards and iguanas visiting regularly. The mosquito net over the bed at night was necessary to avoid getting bites, and make sure you close the doors before sunset or you will have the no-see-ums and mosquitoes to contend with (Thanks for the bug zapper, Don!). The bed was a real downside of our trip, as it was so hard that neither my husband or I slept much, tossing and turning all night to try to get comfortable, and waking up in the morning very stiff and sore. We enjoyed the privacy at the property, although the owner has said he will be building his residence on the foundation next to it, so privacy may not be an option in the near future. The private beach is difficult to get to with the very steep, rocky decline; just not doable for diving with tanks and equipment which is what we hoped, but nice for swimming. Down the stairs to the other water access is either too far from the water to get in, or rocky and very wavy, so improving water access would be important for us to return here. Much thanks to Don for being available to answer any questions we had or help with requests, such as filling the propane tank for the BBQ for us.

      Hi Lisa,

Thanks for taking the time to write a review it is appreciated! Well, that's the first 3-star in 4 years of doing business with 10 villas and 50 reviews and we aim to rectify that as best as we can. Part of that is being open and honest with publishing reviews and their replies so future guests can appreciate different perspectives. I think this cottage has 11, 5-stars and 1, 4-star reviews. I'm glad you understand about ants and mosquitos on every island. We have pest control every month but when it rains the ants come out a bit and if folks leave anything open on the counters then they call their friends. And, yes, everybody on the island closes up the house at sunset during the two months when the wind isn't blowing pests out to sea, it's the thing to do. Happily, the dishwasher has been fixed, we are sorry it wasn't available for your visit and glad that the sink does a great back up job. Regarding the bed, most folks love it and it's the first mention we've had of it. When we are getting a new bed I will look into getting a different model based on what folks are saying and we certainly appreciate your feedback in those regards! Regarding the price...the cottage has booked at approachiing 95% in it's first year and 10-weeks of winter 2014 are already booked. We are very happy to keep our pricing very competitive and very happy that most guests regard it as "very affordable". Regarding the diving and stairs...yes folks need to be careful on stairs and entering the water. The walk to the private beach is not meant for tanks, it's meant for laying on sand and enjoying beach time. It's what we think is an excellent choice...private stairs into the Caribbean Sea for your own personal dive spot on one edge of the property and a 30-second walk through the bush-bush to get to a private beach on the other side of the property. The property is about 50 meters along the seaside cliffs and both of these options are on the opposite edge. Regarding the upcoming building....I am building another very private 1-bedroom cottage over looking the beach on the opposite side of the property. It will be impossible to see either cottage from the other. They will be further apart than almost any homes on the island due to the long coast that the property is situated on. At Seaside Curacao, and at my own personal property (this cottage), we take our guests comfort, privacy and enjoyment very seriously and we really appreciate the time you took to help us be the best we can be! Enjoy a great spring and I'd like to offer you first dibs on the new cottage this coming winter at a 30% discounted rate as a thanks for your business. Don

      Seaside Bliss!!

Left on 04/21/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Our stay at the Seaside Cottage was everything the pictures promised (which is a rarity)...quiet, secluded, comfortable, and the most amazing view. Morning coffee on the deck overlooking the serene multi-hued blues of the ocean and sky was idyllic. The cottage is charming, clean, cozy, and adorned with natural treasures and local artwork. The small Cas abou community is well-situated, secure, quiet, and gently lit so you can see the stars at night.

We explored nearby beaches and snorkeled in front of the cottage. The reef habitat right in front of the cottage is in very good shape. We managed to log about 80 species of fish. Also, we observed a sea turtle, while snorkeling, and a pod of about 20 dolphins feeding/swimming in the cottage waters! The daily visits by our little feathered and lizard friends were reliable and expected. Oh, that splendid Troupial (national bird of Curacao) and its melodic and unmistakable voice and the cute little Bananaquit. Plus pelicans and osprey fishing.

When not in the water, we escaped the afternoon heat/sun by retreating to the Shady Iguana Grove next to the cottage. Perfect shady place to sip your beers, read, and listen to baseball games with the cottage wifi connection, all with a splendid view of the ocean. Deck is also great place for boat/ship/plane watching...as someone else mentioned, interesting traffic.

Future travelers, heed the advice given on renting a car (there aren't many taxis and outside of Willemsted, the island is sparsely populated) and wearing hard-soled shoes/booties in the water. Necessities if you want freedom and ease of getting around and in/out of the water. Although the sea was generally pretty calm, when it was rough, getting in and out of the water from the rocky shore was sometimes challenging.

A very special place indeed, sure to inspire relaxation.
      Perfect place for our Honeymoon!
      Thanks Don and Heidi!

Inside cottage, bathroom is to the right. Looking inside from the deck. Clean bathroom! Ah....morning coffee spot. Shady Iguana Grove The little private cove beach that you can access down a path from the Cas Abou community entrance road (about a five minute walk from the cottage). Cottage stairs and entrance to water. Note the rocks... Magnificent Troupial Dolphins!!! Lovely sunset

Congrats again on the nups and we are sooo very glad you enjoyed a nice honeymoon! You get some serious bonus points for the nice pictures that you added, thanks! I'm glad you made it to Iguana Grove, some folks honestly never make it past the deck!. I hope you enjoyed the outdoor shower as well! And, I'm jealous of the dolphin sighting, OUTTA SIGHT!
Hard soled shoes are important when the sea kicks up, good advice. We hope you enjoyed some nice meals out in the area and checked out a few beaches! Enjoy a great summer and hope to enjoy a drink with you next time!

      Ultimate rest and relaxation!

Left on 03/28/2013 for a stay in March 2013

This is a great seaside studio, very private and quiet. The landscaping is beautiful and the deck is worth the rental fee alone! Access to great snorkeling ( head to your right) in very calm water, good for beginners too. Just a short drive to the wonderful Casa abou beach with diving, restaurant and bar. 10 minutes to grocery store, pharmacy and fabulous bakery.
We would highly recommend this part of the Island (north west) it is natural and unspoilt with lots of amazing local restaurants, yet only a 25 minute drive to town and tourist stores, cruise ship port and shopping.
We visited Hato Caves, the Curacao liquor factory,Jan Kok salt pans, Kura Hulanda museum, Shete Boka national park, Westpunt, Punda and Otrobunda.
Best places to eat, Daniel, Trio Penotti, Sol Food and E Lanternu and The Governer in town at night for the view.
We brought local art at alma Blou gallery, all prices, so helpful.
This is a cottage getaway, not 5 star spa, but all the amenities you need, no tv, but plenty of books and dominoes!! Don is very knowledgeable about the island and where to go. You can choose to do nothing all week, or visit somewhere new everyday!
We would definitely go back to Curacoa, the people are very friendly and smart, most speak 4 languages, we always felt safe, weather was 27 degrees day and night and best food we have had anywhere ( dont judge a restaurant by the outside, lol- go in!)
Please feel free to contact us :)

Sunset from deck. Great outdoor eating area with BBQ Casa Abou beach, 5 minute drive. Troupials and many other birds visit. Iguana on the driveway.

We thoroughly enjoyed this small cottage perched at the edge of the sea. It offers the perfect blend of comfort and naturalness. The huge deck provides panoramic ocean views topped off with spectacular sunsets. It was easy to feel the rhythm of nature here - birds, iguanas, and sealife abound. The owner went out of his way to ensure that our needs were met and our stay was comfortable. Our biggest problem was talking ourselves into leaving the cottage long enough to explore the rest of the island!

      Hi Cyndie!
Thanks for taking the time to write your review, it's important for potential guests to get the real deal from folks who have already been hypnotized by the property! Most folks rave that the price is reasonable or even too low and we like to keep things manageable and booked. Right now we are OVER 95% occupied over our first year! We are super glad that you enjoy the views above and below the water and are looking forward to welcoming you both back for a longer visit. Thanks again, Don

Truly an Unspoiled Slice of Paradise

Left on 03/01/2013 for a stay in January 2013

If you have ever wondered what it would be like to live on a tropical island in a house right on the sea, then this is an affordable way to have that experience.

First off, any pictures you see of this cottage by the sea pale in comparison to the beauty that you will see in person.

Booking the cottage was a breeze and Don's communication was timely and gave a hint of the superior service that was in store for us. Along with a written contract he provided a wealth of information on things to do on the island and recommendations on places to eat, get groceries, beaches to visit, etc.

When we arrived he was there to meet us in person. He showed us around the place and answered all of the questions we had for him. Don is a person who you immediately realize will go out of his way to make sure that you have a great vacation. He is very genuine and sincere and makes you feel right at home.

A daily treat was showering outside with a beautiful view of the Caribbean sea. Once you try it you will not want to shower inside again!

A treat at night around 8pm or so was the luminescent Jellyfish...Awesome sight to behold...like stars in the sea! And the stars above are awesome in their own right, an excellent place to star gaze.

We visited the neighborhood beach at Cas aboa a couple times. We had lunch at the beach bar and that was both reasonably priced and tasty! The beach there is world class and unbelievably beautiful.

Another recommendation in the material Don had provided was for a Picnic Basket service. I would highly recommend Evelien's picnic basket service!

I feel certain we will return to this piece of paradise and visit with our new friend Don once again. If you would like something special and off the touristy, beaten path I would highly recommend you contact Don at Seaside Curacao and start planning your own trip to this unique place.

      Jeff and Lisa

A view of our favorite sunning spot from the deck of the cottage. Daily visitors to the deck. Their voices are just as beautiful as their feathers! View of the sea from our cliffside sunning spot at the cottage. Doors open all day long...the best sea breezes you could ever want. Shade from the pre-sunset Sun..... Pathway from the Cottage to the Cliffside Sunning Spot. Always interesting ships passing by so bring binoculars! Never got tired of seeing the beautiful views from the deck... View down the steps to the sea from the side entrance of the cottage.

I wish I could take credit for the views, breezes, stars and those outrageous jellies (that aren't there during the day) but credit goes to The Management! But I do like the deck over the sea, that was fun to build! You both really embraced the island and the relaxation and nature we like to offer. Super glad you enjoyed the picnic basket, next time let's get the in-house service and enjoy a meal together! Looking very forward to seeing you both again...there are some more adventures to check off the list!

      That is paradise!!

Unfortunately there can not be given more than 5* by this system - we definitely would!

We spent 2 weeks here and its was more than spectacular.

Pelicans hunting for fish right in front of you, flamingos passing by, Seaeagles every day and the water is full of fish at the first step. We even saw a whale around 300 meters in front of the terrace - amazing!
We also had a small gecko on the Table every morning catching flys in front of us and almost not shy - great! Also 2 cats came for dinner every evening - they like steak ;-), but also ham and of course petfood - feed them!

Have a walk in the evening along the quiet road and experience wild pigs, bats, colorful birds, ... perfect right after sunset to move your feet a bit after a lazy day at cas abou beach which is the most beautiful beach on the island and right around the corner - you can even snorkel from your house to the beach.

As other guests we enjoyed to cook and have dinner on the terrace - no better TV programme than that and no commercial breaks,... all live and real ;-)

      Daily needs:
You'll find smaller shops, supermarkets, gas station, ... all of your daily needs just a few minutes by car.
And there ist a huge supermarket about 15 minutes by car - "Centrum" - which has everything - and if you like a good steak: get it there - its almost less than half of the price than in austria/germany and fantastic quality - 3 mins/side on the BBQ on your terrace - you almost can eat it with a spoon - Enjoy!

If you need any help or have any question: Don is the man to talk to (and to have a drink with!!) - a very nice guy who became a friend of us.

We could fill pages with that stuff but you have to experience all that by yourself!

      Have a great holiday!!

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time at this house at at curacao. The house is right on the water and is just what two people need. We enjoyed cooking our own meals and eating out on the deck. We cooked about 2/3 of our daily meals at the house. Beautiful sunsets every night, close proximity to beautiful beaches. We really enjoyed the part of the island that the house is on because it is in the nature compared to where all of the resorts are near the capital. We rented our own car and we were able to easily get around. Our house had frequent animal visitors such as iguanas, lizards, and beautiful birds. Don was a pleasure to contract and communicate with. Heidi (property manager) was very kind and helpful.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks at the beginning of July this year and had a fabulous time. The studio cottage is perfect for two and the location to die for. The view is unbeatable and is located on the quieter, western end of the island. The snorkeling right below the deck was amazing, as were the sunsets, stars and bio-luminescent jellyfish! It was our first visit to Curacao and in the end we were extremely glad we stayed in this part of the island as we prefer quieter, more remote spots and the beaches near by were unbelievable. We rarely ventured far from the cottage except to shop and swim. Heidi and Don were very accommodating and responded quickly to or questions and emails, making us feel really at home. Loved the indoor-outdoor living, snorkeling, BBQ and outdoor shower.

As for Curacao itself, being our first visit we were not really sure what to expect as had heard mixed reviews. We had wanted a snorkeling vacation and definitely came to the right place! The beaches were amazing for this. The most perfect clear aqua water ever, not many sandy beaches though so bring rock shoes. Curacao is much larger than other Caribbean islands we frequent (St Martin) but if you stay at this cottage you will be close to everything you need for a perfect sleepy and relaxed vacation. We spent most of our time on the beaches with a cooler and that suited us just fine. The public (free beaches) are beautiful but even for the beaches you need to pay to get access to the fees are nominal and totally worth it. Plus, if you want you can take the beach chairs from the cottage and save a few dollars. Our favorite beach by far was Porto Playa Marie but we also liked Casa abou and Groote Knip (Playa Kenepa). We are not scuba divers but saw plenty of people enjoying shore dives. For a bit of adventure we highly recommend the snorkeling and Klein Curacao trips from Bounty adventures: sunken treasures and sea turtles!

Overall: truly awesome stay and we hope to be back soon!

Well, that's our first non-5 star...so we need to get back on track. I don't know why the location is listed as a 3-star, please tell me! Not much I can do about having a private beach with private steps to the sea, a cliffside patio, flamingos, pelicans and trupials flying by, sunsets over the water 365 days/ year, trade wind breezes...anyway I will bring it up with The Management! I'm glad you enjoyed the activities we recommend, we really want our friends to have a terrific, relaxing and local experience.!

      Sunset extravaganza!

Left on 05/02/2012 for a stay in April 2011

This little hideaway is a secret gem. It is located on the most beautiful side of the island of Curacao. The deck sits over the bluest of blue caribbean water and is the winning feature. Don is a superb host, friendly, honest and knowledgable about all the hidden wonders of Curacao. It is a small guest house, very clean, but has everything you need. Steps lead to the water in this off the beaten path hideaway. You want to rent a car, as getting around the island requires one. The west side of Curacao offers spectacular beaches and you are in the best location for these, as well as, more local culture and flavor. The price is a steal for this little place packed with so much comfort, beauty and serenity. We loved it!

      Hi Cheri!
Super nice to have you on the island! Looking forward to welcoming you back as the dear friend you have become! There's always one more cove to explore, one more sunset to enjoy and I don't think we saw enough green flashes last time! Big hug from a long way away! Don

      Let go.
Give your inner being the gift of levels of relaxation, until now, you only dreamed or hoped could be possible.
      Make it real.
What more do you need than your own stairs down into the ocean and a kitchen to prepare some fresh local fish, rice and fresh mango salsa with wine at the end of the day. You never want to take your eyes off the view! Once you discover the outside shower you won't want to shower inside! Each days sunset holds beauty to top that which came the day before! Could it get better? & Then it does!!
Breathtaking serene beauty. Music from the birds of the air greet you every morning especially when you sleep outside under the stars. Had the special opportunity of 5 weeks & 3 days at this private residence & I'm going back as often as I can, often as I can, often as I can, often as I can!!!

Privacy, Serenity, and Breathtaking Caribbean View

Left on 05/01/2012 for a stay in April 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed here in order to relax in a quiet location and breathe in the sea air. It's absolutely perfect for doing just that. The house, while small, is a steal for $100 per night because it's more than adequate (with all modern ammenities and comfort) and its best asset is a fabulous, large balcony on which we spent all of our time...It extends out over the water to provide views of the bright turquoise sea and incomparable sunsets. There is a foundation laid on the property which will eventually be developed into a bigger house, but the foundation is to the side of the house and is not in view while you're in the house or on the balcony. I absolutly recommend this place for privacy, serenity, and relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the island and tourists.

Great to have you both at Casa Ba-ooo! I love hearing about those sunsets from other folks, they are simply magic! I'll try to save some rainbows for you next time! Really glad you both enjoyed the diving and got to see the "house" eagle ray! Pleasant travels on your journey, enjoy!

Captivated my heart - Dreaming of returning

Left on 04/26/2012 for a stay in June 2010

I lived at this property in 2010 and can vouch for the beauty - splendor - and memories to be had here. The reef is one of my favorite to dive in all of Curacao, which you have immediate seaside entry at the base of the stairs. Evenings provide a spectacular show of stars being captured in the water when the evening jellies collide against the beach. Rain storms over Venezuela in the far distance - it is like the lightning shows only the Wild West can bring. Night swims are illuminated by the phosphorescence shows of a partners swimming next to you - like Tinkerbell.

The surrounding area teams with activity - climbing Mount Christopphel (highest point in Netherlands) a short 20 minute drive from the house - eat some exotic iguana meat at a local flavor Yanchi's (30 minutes) - explore the caves where slaves hid from their captors during the trade route days (30 minutes) - or drive into Punda and Otrobanda for dancing and nightlife activities. The entire island provides drive and dive locations, or you can venture to surrounding islands of Bonaire, Klein Curacao on day trips.

You can experience the best of both worlds while on Curacao. It was an amazing experience - one in which I hope to repeat again very soon.

I'm glad you really enjoyed the diving, it's just spectacular. Eat iguana-check, Hato Caves-check, Christofel-check, star show-check, bio-luminescense-wow! Very unique cottage for enjoying nature!

Next time we need to get you to hiking at Boca Ascension (5 min), goat stew at Doctor Stonehuis (5 min), El Lanternu for dessert (3 min), and a special tanning session and exploration at San Juan.

Thanks and hope to welcome you back soon! Have a great summer!

Thanks, Brigitte! I sure enjoyed having you at the little cottage! Great to enjoy the views and wine with you and your friend. I am looking forward to welcoming you back as family and to prepare some more dishes for you! If I remember correctly you were the only one to miss the Green Flash. My advice...more wine for the next sunset! Don
