Coupiac, southern FranceExcellent base for a Christmas holiday in an unspoilt andalucian
Left on 12/31/2012 for a stay in December 2012
We wanted a restful, sunny Christmas and this cottage and village provided just what we needed. The cottage is simply furnished and equipped but all the essentials are spot on. I enjoyed hunting the (dry) riverbed for firewood and shopping in the village store, and we spent our week visiting the beach and the towns and villages within 30 miles of the cottage.
It was great to be able to eat breakfast on the terrace in late December, although by 4 pm it was too cool to stay out there. It was interesting being in a village so steep that you have to park your car a couple of hundred metres from the cottage, but this only added to the feeling of restfulness.
Overall we had a great time and would fully recommend the cottage. -

Left on 10/08/2012 for a stay in September 2012
We had an excellent stay in Cutar in September. The weather was superb even at this time of year. The cottage is lovely and our hosts were very welcoming.
You would definitely need a hire car to get there but this said the majority of the roads in Spain are excellent and easy to navigate. If you are after a relaxing quite retreat this is ideal. Highly recommend. -

Left on 08/06/2012 for a stay in July 2012
We, a family of five, stayed in lovely CĂştar for 9 days. Our hosts John and Judy were absolutely delightful and made us feel at home from day one. We especially enjoyed driving in the surrounding area, visiting markets and small villages and checking out local restaurants. On a hot summer day it was also nice to spend some time in the nearby villages of el Borge and almarchar, where there were swimming pools, suitable for both adults and children.
Cútar is perfect if you wish to get a break from a stressful everyday life, and if you´re a romantic, nothing beats sitting on the porch, enjoying a glass of Cava while watching a perfect starry sky. -

Left on 06/18/2012 for a stay in April 2012
I visited Cutar in april with plans to visit other cities around such as Malaga, Granada, and Seville.
First of all I was advised that I need a car to travel around here so I used avis.
Their service was wonderful and price was competitive. Also the high way system in Southern Spain is excellent in a sense that it is wide, clean and easy to find a way without GPS.
As John and Judy gave me a direction and advice in advance, there was no problem finding the destination.
The flat is beautifully located in the middle of mountain with other traditional houses painted all white. John and Judy welcome you at the entrance of the town and you can walk around and visit local tapas bar and grocery shops. Especially the tapas bar serves a good snack with a glass of tinto de verano at a great price of 2euro. You can even enjoy football games on their satellite TV!
Flat is equipped with all the modern facilities such as kitchen, heating, bath, etc.
The rooms are spacious and well managed and you can enjoy the mountainous view from the window.
Another great thing about the flat is that John and Judy have collected and prepared quite huge amount of travel information based on their own experience. Travel guide books, maps, brochures, and little booklets of local advice are waiting for you.
Plus the fact that you know specialists who can speak English in the middle of Spanish town will give you a great relief and confidence. Travelers in Spain who can't speak Spanish would see what I am saying.
All in all, I had a great time and a wonderful vacation at the flat and highly recommend it to the travelers who are looking for authentic and unique experience. -

This cottage really is the bees knees! A spacious, very Spanish family casita tucked away on the edge of one of those extraordinary lego-block white villages, tumbling down the steep vine-and-olive covered slopes. Bird song and the croaking of frogs is the backing sound-track, and the sunny terrace looks out over the valley towards the dramatic mountains of the Sierra Nevada. The cottage really is beautifully done up - at once authentic and artistic. One of my favourites things was dropping down the hillside onto the dry river bed which either takes you on an easy stroll down to the nearest small town, or up into the wilder boulder-strewn reaches. Tremendous!

I have never stayed in the 2 bed cassita before and it was lovely! The smell of jasmine filled the house in the evening. John and Judy are very hospitable and are a font of knowledge about the local area. I think Cutar is the lovliest village in a very beautiful area. It is more than possible to sit and stare at the mountain and valley all day listening to the sounds of daily life but teenagers forced me to the beach and the caves, all within an easy drive. The nearest large food shops and cafe's are only a ten min drive away but the bars in the village provide cheap drinks, icecreams and food (and one sells fresh bread in the mornings). Lovely place to relax and unwind and wish you could stay longer or forever...

This cottage is lovely and the location is great - close enough to Malaga, beach and other villages to enjoy them, yet removed enough to be quiet and private. The cottage is furnished nicely and decorated with original artworks. The town is lovely to walk around and has the required amenities. We enjoyed a meal prepared by the owners on our arrival, a definite plus. They were also very helpful with information about the area. Printed information booklets are in the cabin describing anything a visitor may need to know. We would highly recommend this cottage.

Palm Harbor, FloridaRelaxing village holiday
Left on 05/31/2011 for a stay in May 2011
The owners, John & Judy, had no problem accommodating our unexpected early arrival, greeting us with a walk thru of the cottage. They provided us with a stack of local information and insights into the area (both written and oral), which proved to be extremely helpful. We found the cottage to be just what we needed for the five days. We were looking for a slower pace for a few days and Cutar and the surrounding villages provided that, along with a few interesting driving adventures on the mountain roads. The cottage was convenient to the coast, as well as, offering hikes in the national park area which was within a short driving distance. Food shopping was convenient both with local markets and nearby villages. Everything you need for your stay is within the kitchen with a little searching. Parking is on the edge of the village, which is close to the cottage, but be prepared for the steep inclines. WiFi is available and free which was very important to us. The welcome bowl of fruit and the bottle of Riojas was appreciated! Thank you John and Judy for your time and input into our trip.

Left on 04/25/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We stayed in this 2 bedroomed cottage in Cutar in april with our two boys, aged 1 and nearly 5. Following Judy's directions (rather than Google maps!) we found the village no problem and John and Judy met us in the car park. The house was beautifully situated and perfect for our needs, with a high chair and travel cot provided by the hosts. The little courtyard garden was safe and secluded and we spent lots of time splashing around in the paddling pool.
We had a great two weeks exploring Cutar, the surrounding villages and countryside, and beach resorts a short drive away. We swam in the sea in Nerja but being used to the crystal clear (if 10 degrees colder!) water of northern Scotland we found the water quality quite poor.We didn't venture much more than an hour's drive from the village but found there was plenty to entertain us nearby, including the fiesta of lemons and avocados in Benamargosa.
We bumped into John and Judy most days and their proximity was reassuring; with a young family and only basic Spanish. On our son's 5th birthday they even appeared with a little present! Overall we had a fantastic holiday, exactly the Spanish experience we had hoped for with two weeks of glorious sunshine, eating, drinking sherry and relaxing - Thank you! -

We stayed at John and Judy's 2 bedroomed cottage for 9 nights in February and it was just perfect. The cottage itself is on the edge of the beautiful and authentic hill village of Cutar. On the edge, but a minute from the Town Hall with it's orange tree filled square. This is a slice of village life that I think would be difficult to find elsewhere. John and Judy are very welcoming and knowledgeable hosts, and their cottage was extremely well prepared and presented. The courtyard garden with it's covered seating area was perfect for breakfast in the sun...what a mountain view! The living area is a lot larger than appears in the photographs, and is very comfortable. We had relaxing evenings in front of a roaring olive wood fire. Absolutely perfect, we can't wait to return. Totally recommended.

Had a lovely stay. John and Judy were very helpful. Lots of useful local information provided. Even in November, there were days sunny enough to breakfast in the garden. It did get cold in the evenings and during the wet and cloudy days, but heaters were provided. Only disadvantage is that the local bars were all closed but the coast is not too far away once you get used to the winding road.

NetherlandsA perfect mountain getaway from the madding crowds
Left on 07/28/2010 for a stay in July 2010
If your ideal vacation is to veg out on the beach in front of some concrete monstrosity and minimize contact with local people then this is not the place for you. John and Judy's place is perfect for those who want to mingle a bit with the local population, experience the mountain andalucian village life and nature, have the possibility of cooking their own bbq on a terrace, and those who want to avoid big hotel expenses and the impersonal mass tourism energy. Our family had a very memorable, special stay. The cottage was indeed child-friendly (we have a 1.5 yr old, 12 yr old, 18 yr old) and even cozier than the photos. John and Judy were very accommodating and provided a lot of information on local activities, dining, etc...They live nearby so it was easy to get help when problems arose (e.g.: accidentally locking keys inside). The local Spaniards we met in the village were very kind and with a great sense of humor - having a toddler is the greatest ice-breaker one could wish for.
If you are worried about being bored or isolated - Beaches, nightlife, restaurants, and many tourist sites are still within relatively easy reach (25-45 min by car for beaches). As with many previous guests we loved the wild beaches E of Nerja (there is a shuttle at some of them that costs 2 Euros per person roundtrip). The only downside to us is that a car is absolutely essential and we spent more time than we expected driving around - which can lead rapidly to baby meltdowns. We heartily recommend a stay in the Casitas.

Left on 06/02/2010 for a stay in May 2010
We enjoyed a wonderful stay in Cutar, in a beautiful cottage, located in a small village community nestled in the hills only a couple of hours drive from Malaga. We received a warm welcome from John and Judy once we arrived at the village, and it was so refreshing to step out of the car; high in the hills of andalucia, to hear bird song, see olive trees and enjoy stunning views over fantastic scenery and landscape. A truly remote and beautiful setting.
The cottage was lovely and we immediately felt at home, good size bedrooms and living area and a secluded and delightful little garden, that enjoyed the same magnificent views over the hills and valley that gives the context and setting for the whole village. There was a paddling pool that our young toddler enjoyed - it was easy to assemble and the garden was secure (from a children friendly perspective). There were three adults and one child and the cottage was easily big enough to contain all 4 of us and the cot, potty etc were all provided, one or two Dvds for children as ell as a lovely children's book that helped us all learn a few words of Spanish. There were no other toys or books specifically aimed at children in the cottage, however such a delightful setting and a really "child friendly village". We were always welcomed with smiles and warm greetings from all the villagers, especially our daughter "guapa". A genuine feeling of a culture of family and inclusion (both young and old) and it was a real joy to traverse the steep streets and lanes of the "pueblo blanco" and travel to other local villages.
Within easy reach of the coast and Granada and other places of interest, we would highly recommend Casitas de luna. There was an excellent level of local information from John and Judy and we hope to be able to re-visit in future -

Left on 04/20/2010 for a stay in March 2010
We stayed in one of the casita (cottage) of Cutar (the village) in March 2010. While traveling in the area of Malaga and after reading the description and reviews about the place we felt it would be a place we would like. This is a charming cottage in a pueblo blanco (white village), so if you enjoy your independence and want to stay in a quiet and non touristy place, this is it. We made contact with the owners John and Judy who were very accommodating since we had only called the night before our stay. When we arrive to the place, Judy met us and showed us all we needed. A lot of good and well prepared binders containing information about the cottage, Cutar, as well as places to visit are available in the cottage.
We spent four nights in this charming and cozy casita among the friendly people of Cutar. We enjoyed every minute of it, from walking and meeting people in the narrow streets of the village to exploring the beautiful hills and mountains surrounding the area.
Every morning we would wake up and have breakfast outside on the cozy patio with a great view of the mountains. -

Left on 01/09/2010 for a stay in January 2010
My husband and I rented the cottage for 8 nights and had a truly great time
there. The casita is in a lovely location in the village of Cutar, it is lovingly
furnished, well equipped. It has character and is very cosy. The owners met
us on arrival, showed us around, were very welcoming and informative. In
the cottage there is plenty of information on the village, the area and the
province (information booklets prepared by John and Judy, books, leaflets
etc). Music and videos are also available. We particularly enjoyed dining in
front of the fireplace and sitting around relaxing with a glass of wine,
especially when there has been a bit of rain or bad weather. If you go
during winter, the fact of having a nice place to stay is key as the occasional
spell of bad weather will not spoil the holiday mood! We spend however lots
of time outdoors as well, did some nice walks from the village to the
ridges/hills above, wonderful views, nice warm sun. The whole Axarquia
area is worth visiting, with lots of pueblos blancos, excellent (and very
affordable) food and wine. We also loved the coast (especially between
Nerja and Cerro Gordo), and had a good time in Malaga for the New Year's
eve, and in Grenada to visit the Alhambra. Cutar has been a good base to
explore all these locations around. We had rented a car, but especially in
springtime when the weather is more predictable, one could certainly enjoy
just sitting in the cottage and walk on the hills around for a few days just to
relax and chill out. All in all a great choice! Thanks John and Judy and Happy
2010, we'll be back! Alessandra & Amritt -

We had a wonderful honeymoon in one of Las Casitas de la Luna. This is a cottage, village and region that we can thoroughly recommend.
John and Judy catered beautifully for our first evening with the delicious fresh ingredients that are to be found cheaply in the village. They offer a wonderful dinner service, the highlight of which was the delicious orange, rose water and mint dessert- a taste of the fruit of the Andalusian earth.
The cottage is well decorated and cosy, we enjoyed the open fire place though the weather was wonderfully warm, even in late November. The walks through the region to surrounding villages are enough to keep you occupied for a whole holiday. Each of the villages around has a slightly different character and the walks vary in strenuousness!
We enjoyed the beach at Nerja, just a 1/2 hour drive away, but home was the lovely village, with it's patient, warm locals. Some spanish, or a decent phrasebook, is essential, and don't expect meals in the two bars of the village at any time of day, but they are well worth enjoying after siesta time and late in the evening.
John and Judy were helpful and available, and our whole experience was a peaceful and relaxing one, with so much fresh food, the abundance of fruit trees all around, and a lovely cottage to retire to in the evenings.

Vivasiesta was recommended to us.We were looking for somewhere warm and easy to get to where we could walk and relax.John and Judy handled our enquiry and booking efficiently and were helpful and welcoming on our arrival and throughout our stay. They provided a comprehensive information pack about the local area which we used frequently. We loved our cottage with its simple tasteful decor and authentic Moorish feel. The cottage was comfortably furnished and clean. The kitchen was adequately equipped and led out on to the terrace where we ate breakfast and enjoyed the view of La Maroma, the local highest peak of over 6000 feet we were to climb. We liked having the early morning sun and were aware that Cutar did not have sun in the late afternoon at this time of year.Cutar is a sweet unassuming village and seemed to us to be one of the more authentic white villages that we saw.It offers little in many ways but the bars are friendly and accommodating and we particularly liked Carmen and Jose's bar in the middle of town and they offered us tasty tapas at any time and were prepared to cook paella if we wanted. We used the convenient location of Cutar,20 minutes from Velez Malaga and a good road network,to explore and make the most of the mountains and coast. We walked around the spectacular El Chorro gorge, the serrated and pillared limestone of El Torcal, the hills around Competa and behind Nerja and summiting la Moroma was a highpoint of our trip.We did a few local walks from the village and wished we had had time to do more.John and Judy provided useful information on walks which previous guests had done.We discovered some lovely beaches and the weather was hot so we were able to swim which was good for the end of October. We particulalry liked Maro beach (and village with its nice jewellery shop). We also enjoyed the coves further east from Maro which are completely unspoilt. We made the most of Cutar's position for visiting the Alhambra in Granada and the sights of Malaga

Rental property in the south of Spain.
John & Judy's helpful attention to detail from day one contributed to our holiday being exactly what we wanted. We stayed in the Cassita de la Luna, Cutar for 9 days April 09, and enjoyed the tranquil setting of this Moorish village. The self-catering accommodation is authentically Spanish and extremely comfortable, and offers superb facilities for the walker/cyclist/sun-worshipper in a fantastic mountain retreat.
If like us you're NOT looking for the clubs n pubs, resort-type holiday, take yourself away from this and drive in to the mountains & discover the real Spain.
John and Judy themselves seemed always discreetly available and their knowledge of the area is highly evident through the wealth of guidebook information (written by them, available in the properties).
Highly recommended.

A totally relaxing, get away from it all retreat up in the mountains. The kids loved it, we chilled out. A really pretty, well kept little house with everything we needed, in a very pretty part of the world.
And just when the kids began to look like they needed something else to do, we could get to the beach, to the mountains or go for a wander around the covered market in Malaga in 40 mins or so. We've been back again and it was just as good as the first time. -

The cottage is wonderfully situated in a quiet andalucian village. We could let our young children explore it unaccompanied (the kids were sent to buy fresh bread from the tiny bakery every morning while mum and dad made the coffee...)It was a perfect base for our cycling and walking adventures. (The cycling was brilliant if a bit hilly - we are made of stern stuff - and the house had copies of the walking guides I had needlessly tracked down on the internet) The best walk was maybe half an hours drive away then half an hours walk to 'bat cave' along a lovely river valley, and we found the bats in the cave which we all thought amazing. The local villagers made us very welcome and the owners made every effort to make our stay memorable. The cottage itself has been beautifully renovated and oozes character. It has a brilliant back patio (where we had a christmas day bbq with fish bought from the fish van which arrives every thursday...!) We really felt we were in a real Andalucian community and hope to return soon...
