Adelaide, AustraliaPersonal, genuine, family friendly and peacful retreat
Left on 05/05/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Nicely furbished, clean textiles/linen, lots of books/magazines/games for children. Well equipped kitchen. Two houses- one for eating and socializing and one for sleeping/bathing. Beutiful veranda. Real country-feeling. Owners are engaged, friendly and very generous. We extended our stay one night since we liked the peacefulness so much. We recommend that you contact the owner to book your stay and do not use the booking sites on line.

Comfortable, fully equipped home away from home. Two modern bathrooms, large, open kitchen and dining area, with another dining area just steps away on the spacious deck. Separate television room and large front foyer. My husband and I travelled with our adult daughter but this place would also work well for a family with young kids or even two couples and two kids (who'd share a bedroom).
Don't rent this place if you want to be close to restaurants or shopping or if you are looking for a sleek, sophisticated, "hot property." But if you want a peaceful, quiet, comfortable place to spend a few relaxing evenings while touring KI, this place is ideal. The owners even delivered pizza for our first evening's dinner and stocked the fridge with breakfast supplies. The next day we arranged for our tour company to take us to the local grocery store at the end of the tour day and we were all set! The tour company also pre-aranged airport transfers (the airport is only 5 minutes away) so it worked out beautifully and we didn't even have to rent a car.
This place is excellent value for the money - clean, comfortable, outfitted with everything you'd need, including a washer and dryer, a BBQ - even a piano and a friendly, free range chicken we nicknamed Matilda! Would definitely rent this place again if we return to KI. -

U.KFantastic Rural Location
Left on 11/26/2011 for a stay in October 2011
Loved the location . Cygnet River Retreat is far enough removed from the main towns but close enough ( 10 min drive ) to get to the shops/ Restaurants etc . Great set-up for families with kids . Our two kids were entertained by to the large choice of toys in one of the cupboards . The extension part of the house was very tastefully fitted and furnished . The general decor and open plan living space was excellent .One minor criticism , which did not ruin our stay at all , but maybe needs to be addressed by the owners is that the cooker/grill/extractor hood were is desperate need of a proper clean . As I said it didn't really matter as we BBQ each night but the rest of the house was fine .

Loved it - warm, cosy, relaxing. Beautiful view outside of winding creek, sheep grazing. Had everything you need for a comfortable holiday. We've travelled a bit in aus and this is the first place we've walked into and our daughter said 'wow I could live here'. It's not city slick, instead it's homely and tasteful 10 mins from Kingscote but a million miles from care. We wouldn't stay anywhere else on the island if we went back. Owners were very easy to deal with.

We'd stayed before at Pavilions and this accommodation is just as terrific. There is so much room and the views across the paddocks at dusk - breathtaking. We enjoyed every moment of our far too brief stay and everything was immaculate. This place and its wonderful ambience made our stay so memorable. Thanks so much.
I was so inspired that I wrote a little poem in your guest book. Please feel free to quote it whenever and wherever you wish - no charge! (Just joking)
Congrats on your accommodation - we'll be back
all the best,

AdelaideLovely, peaceful stay...

My family and I had a lovely and very peaceful stay at Cygnet River Retreat. The house is very spacious, had lots of good facilities, and a very good kitchen. Lots of games and toys which our 3 yr old loved playing with, along with trips to the chook shed. There is a resident Koala in the tree opposite the kitchen, which enchanted my relatives from the UK. All in all, a very lovely stay in a well positioned and restful place.

Melbourne, VictoriaThe best holiday experience
Left on 01/02/2011 for a stay in December 2010
We are a family of three, with a teenage son who travel a lot around australia and also South america (where we are originally from). Cygnet River Retreat and the whole Kangaroo Island experience was the best for us in a long time. The property is magnificent, we felt very at home with the chooks and birds. The accommodation was top quality in every aspect. We were welcomed like we were friends for a long time. The location is magnificent as it is close to all amenities and especially to our favourite beach, Emu Bay/Beach and the main shopping centre at Kingscote. We are recommending the property and the whole island to all our friends. We felt sorry to leave. Great memories for the future.
