Melbourne, AustraliaA tranquil paradise in the forest - high recommended
Left on 07/28/2012 for a stay in July 2012
This has to be one of the best value places to stay in the Daintree. Totally private, with a relaxed air and all the amenities you need, the place really makes you feel like you are a million miles from your worries. The private rock pool and waterfall tops it all off to make this a truly special place.
The house was well-stocked with supplies, including cooking oil, spices etc plus a decent selection of non-perishable food that other visitors had left behind. The outdoor bath was also well-used - it really adds to the romantic getaway.
This is not really a place for families - I'd imagine kids would get very bored. The fold-out couch permits a second couple to stay, but the lack of curtains etc means that its not an ideal solution - this is really designed for a couple to get away from it all.
Located close enough to the sights of the Daintree to make them accessible, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle to ensure you feel secluded and relaxed.
Massages at the nearby Heritage Lodge & Spa are highly recommended! -

Stonewood Retreat is a magical place set in the rainforest with beautiful grounds and a creek with its own swimming hole. From the moment of booking the owners couldn't have been more helpful, giving advice on shopping, what to bring, things to do etc. The house is truly amazing, beautifully presented, well equipped (including wi-fi) and spacious. We stayed with our adult son who had one of the sofa beds in the lounge area and there was plenty of room. With a hammock on the deck and an outside bath you can totally relax and listen to the wildlife around you. There are restaurants fairly close by and places to get take-away pizza. In the house there is a supply of basics to buy if you run out (tea, cereal, longlife milk, pasta) also a shop a few miles down the road but take most things you need with you, there are supermarkets in Port Douglas and Mossman. Once you get over the ferry you won't want to leave!

Stonewood Retreat is a beautiful and peaceful place to stay for couples who want to have a Romantic holiday in absolute privacy. We spent the previous five days at Palm Cove which we thought would be private but Palm Cove did not compare to Stonewood. Everywhere you look when you stay at Stonewood is the Heart and Soul and Love that has been put into making this Daintree retreat a very special place to stay.
Our absolute favourite time was spent in the natural swimming pool with its very own pet resident fish.
We hope to come and stay again at this beautiful property again - we really loved our time here. -

After 7 days tearing around the Northern Territory we needed a place to unwind. Everything from the drive from Cairns to the Daintree was great. When we got there we found this beautiful house set among the rain forrest with the sun filtering into the yard. The fresh water flowing stream was a delight first thing in the morning ( no crocs ) Just the company of the jungle perch. The serenity and privacy was superb and the pittas running around was a real treat and we were lucky enough to see the elusive Cassowarry. At Night there was the out door bath under the stars. If you wanted to go out there is a first rate restaurant 200 yards down the road and a great variety of activities if you wanted. The hosts live a short distance away and were incredibly attentive if you needed them. After 4 days it was very hard to leave.. I will be very much looking forward to returning.

I highly recommend it.I have traveled all over the world and this place is now on my best top 5! It was amazing to be able to experience the rainforest in a such comfortable & luxury house. The outdoors bath has to be my favorite. It was a nice romantic experience. Once we got there we did not want to leave! It is a 10 out of 10. I am so happy my friend referred it to me. Ps: The photos can not even touch the reality of this place.

The site was private and secluded, a lovely escape from the mainstream tourist traps. The house has a lovely feel/nicely laid out. Kitchen is well equipped for cooking, gas hobs etc.
Sr had a selection of gourmet foods and staples available to buy for those who arrived empty handed, which we found handy, but it's worthwhile shopping for food in Mossman on the way up to the property as food shopping seemed limited north of the Daintree ferry.
We loved the outdoor bath and the hammock. the gardens and surrounding rainforest is beautiful and the water hole was a dream! There was a resident fish who kept us company while we swam. We had a lovely experience walking back from the waterhole, we were half way up the stairs when we looked up and saw an amazing male Boyd's forest dragon just hanging out in the sun. It was truely magical!
It 's like owning your own slice of the Daintree for a few days. We would recommend this property to anyone considering a luxury holiday. -

Stonewood is a beautiful place to stay for either couples or witha family. The private swimming hole on the property was thoroughly enjoyed by both my wife and I and the children with it very safe. All the amenities were great, especially the outdoor bath which was wonderfully to have a relaxing soek in after a big day exporing with the kids. The view from the kitchen of the brilliant garden and every afternoon we were entertained by the numerous beatiful butterflies.
This was definitely one of the best getaways my family and I have been on and we were lucky with magic weathwer over the Easter weekend.
Thanks Lara and Murray for a great weekend away! -

My partner and I stayed at Stonewood Retreat for the weekend. The house is beautiful inside and out and very comfortable. The surroundings were picturesque and it was great to have a swimming hole right in the backyard. Another plus to the accommodation was to have access to a telephone and Internet. Our stay was great and very relaxing and the hosts were very friendly. We highly recommend Stonewood retreat and will be returning there!
