At the southern end of Speyside, amidst moorland and heather-clad hills, the peaceful village of Dalwhinnie has a remote feeling. There is easy access to the A9 for touring and exploring - northwards through Speyside, westwards towards Spean Bridge and Fort William, or south to Loch Rannoch, Loch Tummel and Pitlochry. The village is in the Cairngorms National Park, at the head of Loch Ericht where it meets Glen Truim, and the clear Highland waters are essential for the whisky made at the local distillery where there is a visitor centre. Lots of mountains close at hand, comfortable but not luxurious, ideal for two people ( four would be a bit cramped).
Enjoyed it enough to return 3 moths later! -

Dalwhinnie is the perfect place for rambling, as a base for exploring the surrounding countryside or futher afield it is in my view outstanding. The Bungalow is nicely situated and reasonably well equipped. Heating is good as are the facilities, the beds were very comfortable just round the corner is a small restaurant that is so reasonable we had our breakfast there everyday. 5 minutes walk and you are by the shores of beautiful Loch Ericht and in a beautiful scenic wilderness. Or if you wish you can easily get to aviemore, Inverness, Fort William and many other places of interest. I love the village, there is also a train station if you wish to leave the car behind. We stayed in March and loved it so much we are returning in November for more exploring.
