5 Star Gold Award River Cottage is situated on a peaceful meander of the River Tees in a quiet cul-de-sac in the village of Gainford. Private access to the river, allows undisturbed fishing & spectacular views of the church, woodland and local wildlife i.e herons, otters and kingfishers.
The bungalow contains four bedrooms, a wetroom, en suite bathroom and an additional toilet, one utility room and an open-plan living area, which is composed of a lounge, kitchen, hallway and conservatory. My brother was visiting and booked the house for 6 weeks and we could not have asked for more. The house was fantastically appointed and the setting was superb. Irrespective of the weather you will be mesmerised by the countryside with water views. The attention to detail in the house is superb and the small additions all add up to make it feel great. No money seems to have been spared and I don't believe you can be disappointed with your rental. Out of the 2 public houses within walking distance we found the Cross Keys to be the better option and they are dog and children friendly. I would not hesitate to book the property and I am already looking to stay in the future.

We have read all the reviews and is all said or written how we think about this perfect
cottage, surroundings and for all the manager: Sarah Rutter.
Even the after sale service was perect, we had forgotten the presents for our grandson,
who had his birthday next day after leaving this fabulous place, but Sarah send it the
same to our grandson and it was on time without costs, thanks for the service.
We are two dutch couples and very happy to stay at the river cottage Gainford -

4 of us from australia stayed here for about 12 days. The cottage exceeded our expectations and the location on the riverside was perfect. The cottage was extremely well equipped, very modern and the only thing lacking was a DVD player which would have been helpful for those rainy days. Other than that everything was perfect! Sarah the owner was extremely obliging and more than happy to help with each and every request and it was a pleasure to deal with her from start to finish. The home was light and airy and extremely spacious, and the location on the riverside was wonderful. It was also very handy to Darlington - only 10 minutes drive away. We would certainly recommend this home and will definately book again on our next visit to he UK.

The whole experience at River Cottage is a delight from beginning to end. Sarah makes you so welcome and has loads of helpful hints about the area from tourist attractions to where to eat.The cottage itself is amazing every little detail has been thought about to make it a self catering holiday with luxury.The view of the River Tees is amazing you could sit for hours just watching the river and let the world go bye.Our short break was not long enough to enjoy all that River Cottage and the area has to offer we shall certainly be back to a lovely unspoilt area of England

The cottage is of a very high standard and the description and photos are very accurate. The service provided by Sarah the owner was great and everything you need is in this high spec accommodation. The 'secret' room was a great idea and talking point. It has a beautiful location overlooking the river and countryside in a quiet cul de sac a few minutes walk from the local amenities. Barnard Castle ten mins drive away has more facilities but the village of Gainford is pretty and has a few pubs and a corner shop. Would highly recommend this property.

Beautiful place, well appointed and of very high quality. Fantastic and peaceful position right on the river and owners are very accommodating. Best UK holiday let we have ever stayed in. You will definitely be our first choice when we are in the area.

We spent a week at river cottage with our two grown up sons, our daughter and their respective boyfriend and girlfriends. The place was wonderful,more than we had hoped for,with every possible luxury added. From the superb jacuzzi baths, to the internet TV, beautiful views, private fishing with lovely walks and cycle routes on hand. Sarah and Paul were so helpful and provided us with lots of information about the local area, we can't wait to return.
