Laid-back, no traffic lights, last inhabited barrier island between Alabama and Louisiana. Locally run family run seafood shop with shrimp direct from their own boats. Skinner's Seafood. Audubon Bird Sanctuary directly on the Gulf of Mexico, 18 hole links style golf course directly on the Gulf of Mexico, miles of mostly deserted beaches, great fishing and beach fun.

Pets welcomed with a pet fee.
Pets are allowed on all beaches and streets on Dauphin Island at all times with a leash.
If within 30 days of arrival ask for a discount.
Unless a last minute rental Chill Out requires a 7 night rental.

  We visited this waterfront home during the first week of January 2011. I was recovering from surgery and we were looking for a place to relax with our dog, Stella. In short -- "Chill Out" was literally just what the doctor ordered! The pictures don't quite capture how cute this place is (nicely decorated) and we were delighted that the back door/ deck opened right out to the beach. Stella loved playing in the sand and the water and we loved just "chilling." We only used two of the four bedrooms (our sister-in-law came along, too) but everything was beautiful. I loved having the wifi and the televisions were great -- I don't usually spend so much time just sitting around but -- since I had to -- this rental turned out to be the perfect place to do just that! Quiet, cute, and adorable! We look forward to renting here again!

  We are so glad to know you had a great time with Stella at Chill Out!
  Unfortunately, Chill Out is no longer available as a rental.
  Dune House is also a pet friendly home. Most of Chill Out' s furniture has been relocated to Dune House.
  Hope you have recovered fully and you and Stella return soon!

  To those of you who have never visited Dauphin Island: You won't find the crystal clear water and blinding white beaches that you find in Destin or Panama City. You also won't find the traffic, fast food restaurants, or crowded beaches that you find in Destin or PC either. Dauphin Island is all about relaxing. Place your beach chairs by the water and enjoy that "Corona" moment. There are sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes, a few restaurants and bars, a couple of gas stations, and that's about it. Nothing fancy, just you and the beach. And that's what makes it so appealing.
  
  I have stayed at Chill-Out the past two seasons, and have made reservations to stay there again in May. Chill-Out is very clean, has internet capabilities, cable TV, an unobstructed view of the ocean, and has both a rear porch and deck to relax and enjoy the breeze. But then again, so do many of the other rentals. What makes Chill-Out so appealing to me is the owner. He is very accomodating, working around my schedule, quickly responding to emails; even offering a discount because someone wrote in the log book that the washing machine was "loud". When the DVR did not work properly the first day we got there, a new unit arrived within 2 hours of our phone call. Any complaints? I wish there was a hose at the steps of the rear deck so that you could wash your feet (or dog's paws)as you walk off the sand and onto the deck (right now, there is a hose underneath the house, but unless you are wearing flipflops your feet will get dirty after you wash them and walk to the steps). And that's it. To me that speaks volumes when your only complaint is about a hose.
  My wife and I travel to various places each year (ie Aruba, Bahamas, Mexico, St. Lucia)but we always make sure we set aside a week to "chill out" at Dauphin Island and do absolutely nothing. And that is the reason why we book six months in advance for this particular home.

  Your comment about the hose at the beachside stairs is very timely. we have been discussing adding this in February.
