Seattle, WAThe amazing Stay - Private, Luxurious and Easy
Left on 04/25/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We simply adored Headland House. The home layout worked well for our family, 2 adults and two children ages 6 and 8 and our old golden retriever We all loved the views, private beach, hot tub, fireplace and large projector screen. The kids really liked exploring the woods around the house and playing pool. Adults loved the comfortable beds, the 'has everything' kitchen, and homey feel.
The home is off the beaten path which makes it special and the hosts really know how to make you feel at home. Movie night was complemented by popcorn and treats and we loved making donuts in the mornings. (The hosts provided us with some nice surprises!)
Orcas Island is a charming place and the Deer Harbor location is breath taking. Madrone trees and water views are a unique west coast treat and Headland House has them in spades.
We will definitely be coming back to make more memories! -

Yakima, WAGreat "feels like home" home with an amazing view!
Left on 04/13/2013 for a stay in April 2013
Fantastic property...on eight acres. The home was maticulously clean with every detail thought through. From the arrival goodies that including cupcake mix with the milk and eggs waiting in the refridgerator to every pot and pan conceivable. Huge projector screen for the teenager and Dad to watch the Ncaa Basketball tournament as well as "movie" night. The only sound we heard each morning was the breeze passing through the trees and the birds chirping. The hot tub was hot and ready when we arrived, as well. When we couldn't keep the kids from confusing the admittingly a bit confusing receiver/TV/radio the owner even came over to fix it and walk us through the process. We didn't use the guest house, but I could see where two families could live and relax comfortably. Awesome stay for us!

Seattle, WashingtonIsland Get-Away Extraordinaire
Left on 11/22/2012 for a stay in November 2012
From our initial entry, to our final good-bye, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Headland House. While the copious "book of rules" initially intimidated our invited guest, it took no time at all to relax into vacation mode. Upon check in, we were greeted with soft lighting, soothing music, and a generous gift basket with welcome note. The house's wooded setting borders on mythical, and compelling views from most every room are mesmerizing. Predominantly asian furnishings are elegant, carefully chosen, and (better yet!) comfortable. While soothing lighting is nice, we missed brighter, concentrated lights for curling up to read. (Also, a "Control-4" system to streamline remote controls would have been helpful to us techno-challenged seniors!). Even so, from household supplies and services (laundry room), to media options (including surround-sound, oversized TV), to games/books/activities (horseshoes, pool table, spa), amenities are exceptional. We loved the spa and poolroom. Crackling fires invited restful relaxation, and the kitchen was superbly appointed for preparing meals. We would have appreciated clearer instructions for accessing the beach; moreover, we suggest clearer driving instructions--such as, Veer right at the first "Y"; left at the second "Y" leading to the house. Upon arrival, love every minute of a delightful stay at Headland House!

Thank you so much for the valuable feedback. Based on your comments we just ordered a Sony Tablet for programming all the remots for the Home Theater system. Hopefully, this will make viewing much more streamlined.

MoscowHeadland House was everything and more than we had expected.
Left on 09/08/2012 for a stay in September 2012
Our family met at Headland House for 3 days of fun and relaxation. Our group included 9 adults and 2 children. One of the bedrooms in the main house has a large room (closet) attached that was perfect for the 2 children. The study has a pull out bed that wasn't that comfortable and you could hear everything from that room.
The day bed in the guest house was probably more suitable for children than an adult. But in the long run we wanted a home that would accomodate all of us,so we made it work. Some of us got in the hot tub, but others wouldn't because of the strong chlorine smell. The pool table was a big hit. The first evening we arrived my daughter and her husband were out playing horse shoes until it got to dark to play. Many of us took walks down to the water. The scenery was beautiful. We took a
whale watching tour on Sunday and could point out Headland House from the water. It's as though it was our own. I would definetly return. -

Left on 08/21/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Headland House was the perfect location for our family gathering. It's spaciousness allowed 10 of us to all be together in the living and dining areas, and to find quiet time in the bedrooms and on the decks. The house is thoughtfully stocked with everything you will need - abundant kitchen appliances, coolers, towels and robes for the hot tubs, etc. Lisa, the owner, is very responsive to any questions or concerns you may have. The house has amazing views of Deer Harbor and plenty of outdoor seating to take advantage of the views. The house is also within walking of the beach.

West Linn, ORFabulous Vacation Experience, Fantastic Property
Left on 08/16/2012 for a stay in August 2012
This was the nicest house we have rented for a vacation. Our group of eight were so excited to get to the house. When we arrived we knew that we had made a great choice. The home was exceptionally well appointed. There was a spectacular view of the neighboring island and the Puget Sound. After unloading we had a BBa and some drinks on the deck and we relaxed. Our group used the guest house too and that by itself was a fantastic part for one of the couples in our group.
The kitchen is very well appointed. I am an omelet chef and enjoyed making custom omelets for our friends every morning. There was everything needed to cook and prepare gourmet meals too.
The London Olympic Games were on the TV and we put the 90 inch screen down and watched Dish Network and caught all the games because we could record them while we stayed there. That was the best thing for our group every night. We just had an Olympic viewing party every night. That was fantastic!
The walks around the wooded community were serene and we saw scores of deer. We went whale watching, kayaked around the Wasp Islands and ate crab and local berries for dinner. The four couples in our group enjoyed this immensely.
The views every morning watching float planes taking off from Deer Harbor were mesmerizing. We enjoyed the hot tub for relaxation and that was so nice too.
We would listen to good classic rock tunes and played games of Stars and Stripes or Cutthroat in the poolroom almost everyday. What a great place.
Everyday the guys went out to play Horseshoes and to relax in the quiet surroundings of the woods around the property. That was fun.

Bellevue, WashingtonHeavenly Haven at Headland
Left on 07/31/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Headland House is haven of true tranquility and breathtaking beauty. We recently hosted our second family gathering there (participants ranging from ages three to eighty). Everyone had a marvelous time. Multi-dimensional in its restorative attributes, Headland delivered joy to all, individually, and our group, collectively.
Nestled on a hilltop with exquisitely panoramic views, Headland provides privacy in abundance, but also affords one tremendous access to all the delights of Orcas. Our group hiked, explored the terrain around home, kayaked, whale-watched, took in the coutryside, and ambled about town. Deer Harbor, where Headland House is located, is our favorite spot on the island, where the natural beauty is nothing short of enthralling.
This is our second stay at Headland House. We were so impressed to see that the already beautiful home had been further refined (which is, in our experience, atypical of rental properties). Hats off to Lisa Strauss for investing so much in further perfecting this extraordinary place. Her incredible attention to detail and her sophisticated aesthetic sense are so apparent throughout.
We look forward to future family gatherings at Headland House, a heavenly haven on Earth.

Left on 07/13/2012 for a stay in June 2012
The house was very spacious and wonderful with all the utensils you could want and more...breadmakers food processors, ect.!I wish we could have stayed longer and would go back in a minute. The views are truly beautiful. The hike down to the water is a hike. It's pretty steep and a little slick if wet but worth the walk atleast once. I can only say positive things about our stay there and the management interaction. It was seamless and unobtrusive. The cleaning fee seemed a bit steep for how neat we are but the house was spotless when we arrived
I hope I have the opportunity to work with this company again. There are about a ba-zillion accomadation options on Orcas but if I go back it would be hard to want to stay any where else -

Left on 01/23/2012 for a stay in January 2012
What a beautiful home with the most spectacular views! The whole main floor has windows looking out to the water. We could not get enough of those wonderful views. The gourmet kitchen had everything we needed when cooking our meals! We even had fondu one night. The space was very accommodating for our 2 families. The big media screen was great for watching movies or sports. The down stairs pool table was a place both the adults and teenage kids liked to hang out. We had such a great time, and fell in love with Orcas. We found the owners very easy to work with and would definitely rent from them again.

Our trip started with a wonderful ferry ride from annacortes to Orcas Island. From the ferry dock, it was a magical drive around the island and along the water's edge. As we approached the home, which takes you into a sea of beautiful lush foliage, instant relaxation came upon us. The quietness and complete isolation was a welcomed treat from the daily routine for a family of 5. The house was absolutely stunning coupled by the home's stunning decor. The kids had plenty of room downstairs to provide space from the adults. The kids loved the pool table, spa, and our nightly movies on the 100" HD movie projection system. An unexpected treat for the kids was the PS3 system that could be played on the the screen. Views were amazing. My wife and I read on the deck while the kids were exploring the vast area surrounding the home. On the grounds, we enjoyed the fun family game of horse shoe and having a picnic lunch. All you hope when vacationing is that it's stress free and new memories can be created and looked upon with fondness. We loved it so much that we will make this a yearly visit. What is unique about this experience is that we were unaware the San Juan islands existed, and we truly feel we stumbled across a hidden gem.
Lisa was a pleasure to deal with. The detailed confirmation emails provided was helpful to maximize the value of our stay. If you never rented a home before, you have to keep in mind that it's not a hotel so as long as you approach it as if it was your own home, it's a natural transition. We appreciated Lisa's ideas for our family to explore the island such as Moran Park, Mt. Constitution, fishing excursions, ferry rides to Friday Harbor as well as a unplanned trip for an overnight stay to Victoria, Canada. Thanks again Lisa for a great time and appreciate your responsiveness throughout the process. This trip by far was one of the best trips and are counting the days upon our return! -

Left on 10/31/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My wife and I made a decision to get away for the weekend. The Ferry ride to the island included many scenic views as we weaved through the islands to arrive at Orcas. Headland House is a beautiful home and impeccably maintained. The views over looking the water and adjacent islands are captivating and you just want to watch for hours. The bed was very comfortable and with the morning view we enjoyed our morning coffee before heading off to visit Eastsound. When in Eastsound you must stop by Mia's Cafe for a great breakfast. Sunday we overslept and could not make the morning Ferry. Called the owner and explained our plight and they were really accommodating. We well be back for a longer stay this coming spring.
