Sahani which is the one bedroom cottage is positioned to maximize the sea breeze and comes with an overhead and stand up fan. The cottages are built out of sandstone, coral and wood representing the various textures of East Africa. The interiors evoke memories of the Old Africa which was influenced by the spice trade route. Kampala, UgandaA lovely peaceful stay
Left on 05/05/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We had a lovely peaceful stay, taking over both the cottages at Kitu Kidogo. The cottages were very comfortable and the air conditioned bedrooms in the main cottage were most welcome. The kitchen is well equipped but not geared up for children (no plastic) so bring your own. It was really nice to have Esther come in and clean most days as we were a very sandy and messy bunch. She also arranged for someone to bring amazing fish and shellfish which we cooked on the BBQ - a real delight. There is lots of local wildlife - naughty monkeys (catapult provided to deter invaders), the small deer and nightly visits from a bush baby.
The heat and humidity in January was pretty intense and with no pool at the cottages a few fans would have been welcome for the living and outdoor areas. The only down side for us was that the beach is not a short stroll away - I think the access to the beach has changed recently and now it requires a (5 - 10 minute) walk though the back of ali Barbour's restaurant and across the car park of the 40 Thieves Bar. Not too arduous but with two kids under 5 and beach equipment, a bit of a trek. Having said that the 40 Thieves was a friendly and shady place to hang out on the beach and avoid the hassle of the beach vendors.Response from Payal Shah - 05/07/2013

Hi Simon,
Thank you for the lovely review. We will be adding a pool next year. Meanhwhile we will try to improve on things like adding more fans for the living and outdoor areas to combat the January heat. I would like to point out that it takes only two - three minutes to get to the beach via the access path on the family plot. Five - Ten minute walk is understandable with the little children though. We will look into providing plastic cutlery in the near future.
We look forward to hosting you and your lovely family again.
Thank you!

BaltimoreBeautiful place close to the beach
Left on 12/08/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We had an excellent stay at Kitu Kidogo Cottages. It was our first time to Kenya so we were a bit apprehensive. The owner, Payal organised our airport transfers from Mombasa so we were in good hands when we landed. The cottage was beautiful and perfectly equipped with everything you can think of. It was very clean and Edith kept it in an immaculate condition. The outside area was great to relax in. We had requested for a chef so it was great having all the meals prepared for us while we went down to the beach. One of the nights we had a seafood barbecue which was so fresh and delicious. The showers had fresh hot water. We found out that most other properties use saline water so this was a major plus. There was WI- Fi internet with a very good signal. The beds were comfortable with high thread count sheets.
If you are going to Diani I would recommend you to stay here as not only is it beautiful but also good value for money. -

New Yorkbeautiful home in a beautiful location
Left on 03/24/2012 for a stay in March 2012
My family and I were looking for a little getaway to the coast and came across Kitu Kidogo Cottages on Flip Key. The correspondence with the owner was great! I had lots of questions and she answered all of them. We booked ourselves into the two bedroom cottage which was perfect for us as we were four in total. The cottage was beautiful and exactly looked like the pictures. Edith showed us how to get to the beach and also suggested meals for my little ones. The beds were extremely comfortable. Bathroom, kitchen and the outside area was absolutely lovely. The surroundings were really tranquil and there were quite alot of animals in the bush. In the mornings the sunnis (small deer) would be grazing on the lawn which was a real treat while we drank our coffee. The minute you enter the property you are in a different world. I would have liked wi - fi internet but the internet cafe at Forty Thieves beach bar was only a minute away. You can always buy a modem stick and some scratch cards if you would prefer having net at the cottage.
It was a great holiday and we are already planning our return :)Response from Payal Shah - 03/24/2012

Thank you Sasha for a lovely review. In response to the comment about the wi - fi - we will be providing it in the near future. Edith makes the best spaghetti bolognaise so your kids were definitely in good hands. We are delighted to hear that you are already planning your return.

Londoncozy holiday home in a perfect location

My wife, kids and I found the best cottage in Diani! the cottage is just absolutely beautiful and the quiet surroundings made our stay even that much more better. The beach is only a few minutes away and we could hear the ocean while we relaxed in the outside area. Edith is a great housekeeper and was always around on the property but at the same time she always gave us our privacy. The double walk in shower definitely shows that the owners have great taste and style. Everything was thought of when they designed this place. The bedrooms, kitchen, inside lounge were furnished with the most amazing carved furniture. I believe they designed it themselves. My wife did most of the cooking as that is what she loves. There was everything in the kitchen you could think of so we never had to go buy a knife or a peeler etc which can be the case when you stay in vacation homes. The cottage was cleaned everyday by Edith and she was great! worked so hard that we almost felt guilty with all the pampering we were getting. We spent most of the time at the cottage and went down to the beach ocassionally. It was actually nice being in a secluded spot so we were never hassled by the beach boys. I would go back again, again and again and the best part is that I can afford to go back again! It is extremely reasonable for the quality of accommodation. Any other cottage that looked like that would easily be in the USD 25- - 300 per night. I hope the owners do not read this an up their prices.

Addis AbabaVery Pleasant Stay in this Lovely Holiday Home
Left on 03/19/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We had a very relaxing stay and very much enjoyed our weekend away here. The cottage is gorgeous, beautifully furnished and the kitchen is very well equipped - utensils, microwave, blender, toaster...you name it. The bathroom was spacious and had great showers. The bedrooms are air conditioned and the beds are comfortable. Booking was extremely easy, Payal was extremely kind and helpful and was able to make all arrangements necessary to ensure our entire stay was a stress-free and relaxing as possible. Even our airport transfers were arranged for us, and email correspondence was always very prompt. Edith was there to meet us upon arrival, and she was very knowledgeable and helpful about the area.
The only thing I would mention is that if we were going to stay for a longer period of time, we probably would have given the kitchen a good scrub before using it to cook meals etc. As it were, we stayed only two nights so we ate out! It might have been nice to have had some water on arrival - maybe just a bottle in the fridge - as we arrived parched and then had to make a trip to the store before we could flop down and relax. - Same goes for toilet paper!
All in all though, it is a wonderful place to stay. The outside area was also wonderful, and the guard provided us with peace of mind and was even kind enough to show us to places when we thought we might get lost!
I thought it was a bit awkward having to go through Forty Thieves Restaurant to get to the beach, but we ended up eating here a couple of times so no worries in the end. Ali Barbours was only a 100m walk away and we had a magnificent dining experience here. The shops are only a ten minute walk away. Great location, very quiet and secluded.
Thanks for the great experience!Response from Payal Shah - 03/21/2012

I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Kitu Kidogo. I would like to respond to a few comments that you made in your review:
Our kitchen is cleaned thoroughly and with the best detergents everyday. We will however introduce more measures to ensure that it is spotless. We will clean the kitchen inside out every three - four weeks.
We do provide toilet paper so I am extremely sorry that it was not there when you arrived. I can assure you that this will never happen again.
Because we are a self catering cottage we have never provided water on arrival. However we will ensure that there is a large cold bottle of mineral water in the fridge when guests arrive. This would definitely be useful for all the late arrivals.
I would like to thank you for your constructive criticism and hope that you will be visiting us in the near future.

Nakuru, Kenya & Blackburn, EnglandFantastic house, good location, owner great to deal with.
Left on 02/17/2012 for a stay in January 2012
4 of us stayed in January 2012 for a week relaxing near the beach. The location is good, just a 4 or 5 minute walk to the beach, through the 40 Thieves Beach Bar.
The house itself is very nice. Both bedrooms are air conditioned (essential coming from colder climates). I have to admit that the first night we were there I had the best nights sleep that I had experienced for months, so comfortable. We did experience a slight issue with the air conditioning unit in the second bedroom, but the owner, Payal, was very quick to rectify the situation.
The kitchen is perfectly well equipped for a holiday stay, the bathroom was wonderful, the shower is massive and has great pressure, and the outside entertaining space was super to relax in, and I am truly inspired by the dining table, I want one!!!
The chef-house keeper, Edith, tried to make our stay as enjoyable as possible, she was good fun! Always ready to assist us, and cooked some wonderful meals for us.
We enjoyed the hammocks. Moses the night guard offered a sense of comfort too, knowing we were being looked after.
I would thoroughly recommend atying at Kito Kidogo for a trip to Diani Beach.
The 40 Thieves Bar comes recommended too, a nice relaxed ambiance, with good food and a good choice of drinks. I wholeheartedly urge visitors to try the blue cheese & fig pizza - wow!!
If I could offer some suggestions to make a very good holiday cottage even better - some extra indoor seating would be nice. There is plenty of room outside for the maximum guests, but the option of sitting inside would be great.
Also, we were informed that a swimming pool is planned to be built in the very near future, that will be a welcome addition, and once installed, will ensure our return! (but don't let that put you off, of course you can swin in the sea which is virtually on the door step).
Thank you for a lovely week. -
