DIEZMA: rural village location on edge of Sierra Huetor Parque Natural. Sleeps six with full underfloor central heating. 30 minutes to Granada and airport. 1 hour to skiing and the coast.

Casa Molino is part of a newly converted old olive mill. It sleeps six in three bedrooms with separate bath and shower rooms and has a 7x8m swimming pool and secure parking. It has a large lounge on the first floor and terrace on the second that take advantage of the superb south facing position with stunning views of the Sierra Nevada.

It is only 30 minutes to... Granada, and about 1 hour to the coast at Salobrena and the skiing on Sierra Nevada. Granada airport is about 35 minutes and Almeria and Malaga 90 minutes. Restaurants, bars, bank and shops are within walking distance and there are daily deliveries of fresh bread to the door. It is far enough from the coast not to be a tourist area but real rural Spain. The locals speak Spanish but are very friendly.

Casa Molino is on the edge of Diezma village with fields to one side and hills to another. It is a tranquil base, ideal for country walks and, being a kilometre from the A92 motorway, for exploring Granada's culture, two natural parks and the less well known north of the province. It has a roof terrace and shares the patio and pool with three other properties [the solar-heated pool is in use from May to October]. There is car access and parking.

Casa Molino sleeps six in three bedrooms with separate bathroom and shower-room. Six rooms have windows taking advantage of the south-facing aspect just above the town centre with a the spectacular view from east to west of most of the 3000m peaks in the Sierra Nevada range, snow capped well into spring.

First floor: spacious lounge with open stairs, french window and balcony taking advantage of the spectacular view, principal bedroom with king size bed, bathroom with full size bath, bidet, basin and wc

Second floor: utility room with sink and washing machine opening onto south-facing 23m2; terrace

With just one step between the pool, patio and parking and the ground floor - which contains two bedrooms, shower room, kitchen and dining room - the house is very suitable for people of limited mobility

Diezma: Tranquil, traditional, white farming village, at 1200m known as the Mirador of the Sierra Nevada. Buses to Granada and Guadix, a cathedral city just 20 km east. An excellent centre for touring, walking and mountain biking between the Sierra Huetor Parque Natural and the Plain of the Marquesado with the 300m Sierra Nevada peaks to the south, snow capped well into spring. Bars, shops, restaurants, bank, pharmacy within 5 minutes walk. Ideal for those who want to get to know real Spain, who want to walk or explore Granada's heritage and have a quiet bolt hole at the end of the day. Those looking for bright lights and night-life will find them in Granada but not the village.

Granada is 35km or 30 minutes by motorway. A World Heritage Centre with the Alhambra, Generalife palace, Albaicin white town, Cathedral, the tomb of Ferdinand and Isabella, Cartuja monastery, Plaza de Toros. Capital of the Arab Kingdom in Europe for 800 years until 1892 reconquest. An eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, tapas bars; with classical, flamenco, jazz and Arabic music in many different venues.

Sierra Huetor Parque Natural, 12,428 hectares, a middle mountain area up to 2000m of great botanical importance, home to golden eagles, ibex, wild boar and wild cats. Arab baths, Cueva del Agua and Fuente Grande.

19 kms east is Guadix, occupied by Romans and Moors. It has a wealth of grand buildings and important monuments. The Cathedral was built on the site of the city's principal mosque in 1510 and building continued in Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and neo-Classical styles until XVIIIc. The museum includes an impressive collection of gold and silver. Beyond the majestic and colossal medieval Alcazaba at the high point of town, a testament to Guadix's Islamic past, is the Barrio de las Cuevas, the biggest concentration of cave dwellings in Europe.

There are caves and troglodyte population at Purullena [15km], Graena [18km], spa with sthermal water baths. La Calahorra [36km] monumental castle built in 1509 by the tempestuous Rodrigo de Mendoza. The Italian Renaissance courtyard and Carrara marble staircase are reminders of his spell in Italy and unsuccessful wooing of Lucrezia Borgia. The mountain pass of La Ragua [48km], a popular trekking and cross country ski centre, 2000m, the only road over the Sierra Nevada to Las Alpujarras and Gerald Brenan’s Yegen [97km]. Additional Location Information

On the edge of the village with open country to the north and east but, within walking distance, are shops, a bank, and a choice of bars, restaurants, a weekly market and even a distillery. There is excellent walking and cycling from the door and Diezma, one km off the motorway, is an excellent centre for exploring Granada, the Comarca of Guadix, Marquesado de Zeneta, Las Alpujarras and the less well known part of Granada province.

  We've been kidded before about bars/restaurants being a few minutes away - but they really are! We made El Guinda our "local" as they were really friendly,accomodating and went the extra mile. Jose was particularly helpful and keen to practise English. I've left a Spanish/English dictionary as it proved to be most useful. The food can be a bit hit and miss depending on who's working at the time. I can't say I liked any of the local wines served in the bars but bought good wine to my taste for less than £1 a bottle in the supermarket.
  The gorge at Castril is definitely worth a visit as are the National parks.On a very hot day a swim in the mountain reservoir is recommended - there was a cool breeze and the water was as warm as the pool. Footwear is required though as it's not very pleasant underfoot.
  El Chorro is 2hrs away but definitely worth a visit - see it on youtube to understand what I'm talking about. There's also a beautiful thermal lake close by.
  What I liked best was the beautiful walks right on the doorstep.All in all it was just perfect for the type of non-touristy holiday destination that we love.

  We stayed in Diezma for three nights as we were visiting family. The villa was wonderful, and we all said how it was a shame that we didn't have enough time to enjoy the house to it's full potential. The owners should be very proud, they made us feel welcome and the level of cleanliness was second to none. I'd recommend this, and I'm sure we will back at least once this year!

  This was a comfortable apartment. Since the caretaker was located an hour away, we felt like we did not have much support to get the things we needed. He was very pleasant and helpful when available though. The town of Diezma was not very interesting and it was too long a drive into Granada.

  Now in our second year we have local agents looking after the property.
  We only had five bookings last year and one booked again for this year - showing that it is not too remote a place for some. Granada is 30 minutes drive and, being through Parque Natural, seems like less.
