MelbourneMy Wife agreed I Had Chosen Extremely Well
Left on 10/31/2012 for a stay in October 2012
As our partnership's travel agent I have to acknowledge that I sometimes get it wrong. Not this time. The apartment was perfect for us and we had a wonderful stay. Hopefully the following points will be of value to others:
- arrival at the bottom of the street is a little fraught. My TomTom was telling me to turn up the hill up the very narrow and winding street but there appeared to be a "no entry" sign. Nonetheless I gave it a try and immediately met a car coming down and had to reverse. As I subsequently discovered, it is 2 way for residents (us - although only to load/unload). I had no trouble driving up the hill, going beyond the apartment, turning round and parking in front of the apartment to load the car on departure.
- the lock-up garage arrangement, about a 5 min walk away, is excellent.
- Wendy's arrival package of milk, butter, tea, coffee etc, is both thoughtful and much appreciated. And in marked contrast to what we had experienced a week earlier in Italy.
- the wifi arrangement is brilliant. I didn't realise how much I had missed it in Italy
- the apartment has great appliances, complete with a stack of user manuals
- I'm not so sure that with 3 flights of stairs the place would be suitable for toddlers or young children
- despite what others have said, we did find the double bed a little small and ended up using it and one of the single beds. Had my 6'6" son joined us with his wife and baby as originally intended, he would have struggled to get some sleep I suspect.
Overall, we were extremely pleased. The apartment is clean, very well equipped and in a great location in a very interesting town. Wendy's contact and directions throughout the booking and occupation processes could be a model for anyone in the same business. -

You can't beat this rental for charm and location. Getting to it is a tricky proposition but, once you are there, you will love it. After trudging up the quaint, cobbled street, you find your door and your apartment with all the mod cons and great wifi (if you have to work, like I did). The kitchen is well-equipped and the bed is comfortable. What more can you ask for? Wendy is accomodating and helpful and provides lots of imformation on local sights and restaurants, supermarkets, etc. The parking is a bit off-site but, once you see what the parking situation is like in that area, you will appreciate having it. I wish I had made the reservations for more than 3 days, there is so much to see and do in the Dinan area. This is a fantastic bargain and a wonderful, historic place to stay if you are in Dinan.

Wonderful location for exploring local historic town as well as a base for day-trips around the area, with modern amenities tucked away in the old town of Dinan. Must be able to handle stairs and uneven cobbled hills! Secure parking is a short walk away. Grocery market is up and over a good hike of a hill. Nice light from windows, cozy decor, Internet, w/d, modern well-equipped kitchen, lovely back patio, very warm welcome from local owner. One caveat: If you are over 6 feet tall (1.8 meters), the master bed with footboard may feel too short.

We (couple in our 60's) spent a week at this rental in Dinan and we liked everything about it. I will not repeat what others have already reported but try to add.
I am 6'5' and at my wife's insistence we slept in the twin beds. They were really comfortable although I thought I could have done fine in the master bedroom.
The wired and wireless internet connections are excellent as is the cable television with separate cable services for French and English speakers.
The included parking is a short walk but it is in a brand new garage, is very secure, and there is plenty of room to park a European car.
The apartment is very well equipped. We cooked three meals and we had no trouble finding the pots, pans, and utensils we needed.
If you are on a diet don't go in the bakery at the bottom of the hill! We went there every day and were never disappointed. Of course, if you're on a diet, you might as well just give up or don't go to Dinan. The food is one of my reasons to visit France and I must recommend Cecco's up the hill in the town of Dinan. There are many good restaurants within a short walk of this residence but we didn't get to sample them all.
If you're considering renting this apartment, you should know that it is on quite a hill and you cannot park in front of the house for more than a couple of minutes. I only pulled in front of the house the first day. After that we just walked up the hill into town or down the hill to the car.
Wendi has included a book in the apartment that includes instructions on how to operate anything in the apartment and there is an excellent supply of tourist literature and maps left by previous visitors.
I would definitely stay here if we visit Dinan again. -

Left on 05/21/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We stayed in this apartment for 4 nights and really loved it. Wendy had thought of everything -- even a welcome basket of a few basics and some wine. Very well-appointed and very clean and comfortable. We liked having a nice deck and use of a computer. We had a secure parrking place in a garage down and road just a little -- that was really nice!
There are two sets of stairs from the street -- to the living room and then up to the bedrooms and bedroom. If you don't like so many stairs, there is also an apartment below this one that I am sure is very nice too. -

Wendy and her husband were the perfect hosts to my family.Wendy went out of her way to assist with movement of our luggage (as we were travelling by train)guidance on what to see and do and to ensure everything was just right in their beautiful modern apartment behind the medieval facade. The location only moments down hill to the River Rance and it's quaint port and restaurants. Going up hill to Dinan took a bit of getting use too (very steep)but after the first time you start to appreciate the ambiance and the architecture of this medieval town and take things slowly. Would strongly recommend consideration of this rental to all but the older traveler (unless they have a car) or people with disabilities.

The best equipped holiday home I've experienced. All the mod cons - washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, fridge, oven, satellite tv and internet - a real home from home.
Nice reception and welcome pack - lots of literature about places to visit.
Recommend this to anyone. -

Calgary Alberta CanadaA step back in time in Dinan!
Left on 08/22/2011 for a stay in September 2010
After arriving from what seemed a long train ride at the Dinan train station (only because we had flown from Calgary, Canada to Paris and then immediately caught the train), we were quickly greeted by our host, Wendy Sullivan, who drove us directly to the lovely gite
on a beautiful Medieval Rue nestled between the bustling old town and the much quieter river front part of the village.
We fully enjoyed our three week stay and found the markets and neighboring towns of equal beauty and interest. We had no need of a car and took the local buses to the ocean side.
The gite itself is a lovely historic building that our hosts have renovated to provide all the modern conveniences for kitchen and bath while keeping the old romantic essence of the house in tact. Internet was readily available and even satellite TV for those in need of their favourite show fix. I loved the fact that I could down load all my pictures to the in house computer at the end of each day.
The little deck in the back gave us a glimpse of the old town on the higher hills to the east and we enjoyed outdoor cooking on the BBQ whenever we could. It was a wonderful start to a wonderful vacation!!! Thank you Wendy! -

Left on 08/18/2011 for a stay in July 2011
We stayed one week in Wendy and Peter Sullivan's beautiful and finely appointed apartment in Dinan, on the second and third floors of a house they had recently constructed on the site of an ancient house, and very much in a style befitting the stunningly beautiful street (the Rue du Petit Fort) and city as a whole, where many buildings are at least 500 years old. We had a short wait before being able to bring our possessions to the apartment, but that was only because Peter had accidentally misplaced some keys. But both Peter and Wendy were absolutely delightful, and obviously willing to help in whatever way they could--though they scarcely needed to, as everything we needed was supplied, and everything in the apartment worked beautifully. I would recommend only a few minor additions to make the apartment absolutely perfect: small things like hooks for hanging clothing on the bedroom doors and (especially) on the bathroom door, and solid shelving in the bathroom above the toilet (there's a natural alcove there that would perfectly accommodate shelves). And the whole business of locking away our car in its maximum-security prison [!] was definitely *not* cozy--but clearly necessary, given the parking situation in Dinan. These are negligible quibbles, however. Anyone looking for a cozy, well-appointed pied-a-terre spctacularly situated in one of Europe's most magical small cities couldn't hope to do better than with this apartment.

Overall, the apartment on the Rue du Petit Fort was perfect for our family. Dinan was a great central location for exploring Brittany and we found plenty to do in the nearby vicinity as well as farther away. We very much appreciated the conveniences in the gite and my teens were especially pleased with the WiFi. There was nice assortment of restaurants within walking distances, but we happy to be able to also enjoy meals out in the terrace garden. Thanks for making our stay so easy!

This is our second stay in the Dinan area. Last time we stayed out of town and had to drive every time we went out. This time we decided to stay right in Dinan. We made an excellent choice with Ker arthur. We have rented approximately 6 properties in France over a period of years. Ker arthur was at the top of the list for quality and value. The location was excellent. The big hill is a challenge. We did it 5 times that week! Cooking in the well appointed kitchen and sitting in the spring sunshine in the rear garden was great. Would recommend this cottage highly

There are not enough phrases to describe the wonderful stay we had in Dinan. The hospitality, the house, the location, even the garage, were more than excellent. Dinan itself is a perfect location to stay while exploring much of Brittany. The house was clean, comfortable, with every convenience. Right from the process of booking , to checking in, to leaving, nothing was less than perfect. Our trip was perfect. There are great places to eat or explore in every direction of the cottage. My 28 year son, who was kind enough to translate for me and drive me all over Brittany, also loved the cottage and Dinan. There is enough space to relax after a day of exploring without a mother getting on a son's nerves. Even the weather was perfect the week we stayed here. Thanks so much for renting to us.

Left on 04/25/2011 for a stay in December 2010
We spent a week in Ker arthur over Christmas 2010. The accommodation was fantastic - very modern and comfortable with spacious living areas. We were pleased to find a basket of goodies including a great bottle of French red, tea, coffee, eggs, milk and biscuits on arrival. It was spotlessly clean and secure with very easy to use washing machine and dishwasher, which was great.
It was also lovely to have access to the UK TV channels and free wireless internet - a definite bonus.
Wendy was so helpful in giving great advice about what to do, see and eat in Dinan. She also advised us of some great walking and cycling routes around picturesque Northern Brittany.
The gite was close to some great local cafes where we indulged in decadent coffees and pastries after crisp morning walks.
We absolutely fell in love with Dinan during our stay and to walk through the medieval town to find such a fabulous modern apartment was a real treat. -

Left on 04/17/2011 for a stay in May 2010
We stayed a month and really loved Dinan and our apartment. If only the couch had not been sooo uncomfortable. It really sagged and even additional pillows could not improve it. Please change it!
Beware that the apartment is on a really steep cobblestoned street about a half a mile from the center of Dinan. Great excecise but at the end of our stay my knees hurt!!Response from Getaway Brittany - 04/18/2011
Manager
With reference to the couch being uncomfortable, this is the first time in 4 years that we have had this comment. If this had been discussed with us at the time we would have made every effort to resolve the problem. However, when current guests were asked about this they stated that they have found it to be comfortable. I am sorry that this was a problem for one of our guests. We would always encourage all of our guests to discuss any problems they may have at the time or subsequently. We will continue to survey all of our guests as to whether they have any problems with the comfort of the couch in the future.

A very comfortable medieval cottage with all mod cons, looking out onto the passing spectacle--it was not hard to imagine how Dinan would have been when the cottage was born 300 years ago. A short steep walk into the bustling center , or a shorter walk down to the old port with it's boulangerie ,restaurants and bars.
Wendy was the perfect host, with suggestions for cuisine or excursions. And freely made available 2 bikes to explore the canals.
Our only regret was that we didn't have a month instead of a week
