Excellent location and service, thin walls

Left on 05/15/2013 for a stay in May 2013

The River Dodder apartment is a lovely, roomy apartment in the heart of Dublin. Very close to Temple Bar, transit, parks, and shopping. Check-in was quick and easy. The apartment was very clean and well put together.

As Canadian travelers there were a few things we weren't accustomed to:

      1) The walls in the building are thin and you hear everybody coming and going. This can take some getting used to if trying to go to bed before midnight.

      2) The in-house laundry is convenient but very small relative to our Canadian equivalent. In order to ensure you get dry clothes you can only wash/dry a few articles at a time so don't plan on doing your whole suitcase.

      3) The bed had only a fitted sheet and a comforter, no top sheets. Minor thing, but we found it odd.

      4) The shower had great hot water pressure but the shower head was located to spray right in your face!

Otherwise, the apartment was well outfitted for cooking for ourselves and there were several grocery stores within walking distance. We made several meals during our stay without difficulty.

Just returned after having a fantastic stay in river dodder apartment. We were warmly greeted by the owner Leah Kelly who gave us information about local attractions.Prior to our arrival Leah had e-mailed us beforehand regarding directions to the apartment using the local tram service(nice touch)
The facilities in the apartment are great everything you need for a relaxing stay they also give you a welcome pack of homemade bread, milk, tea, coffee, jam.the apartment is tastefully decorated the modern furniture goes well with the buildings old character, the high ceilings and the neutral colour scheme give the place a relaxing feel. The apartments location couldn't be better just across the liffey facing the temple bar area a perfect base to explore the city even though the house is on the main road the apartment is at the back of the building so there's not a problem with noise.Overall we really enjoyed our time at the apartment and would definitely book with Leah and Niall the next time we're in Dublin

      Best accommodations, location, and owners

Left on 04/09/2013 for a stay in March 2013

For our week and a half stay, the Dodder was incredible and was vastly superior to staying in a hotel. The accommodations were top notch and felt like home after a short period of time. Leah's warm greeting, introduction to the workings of the apartment, and grand gift of delicious homemade bread and other foodstuffs were perfect after an arduous trip and early morning arrival. Leah gave us a quick introduction to the area and wrote on a map for us which was an invaluable introduction to Tesco (grocery store located in a shopping mall) which was very close.

We liked being on the north side of the River Liffey with very quick access via the Millennium and Ha'penny Bridges to the bustling Temple Bar and Trinity College/Grafton Street areas but away from the crazy crowds during the evening and nighttime hours. Leah's husband Niall was very helpful in addressing any concerns we had as well. Restaurants, stores, bakeries, and pubs were plentiful and very good. Favorite restaurants on the same street included The Winding Stair and Bar Italia.

      Perfect Location, great little apartment.

Left on 03/28/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We spent 3 nights in the apartment in March 2013. Before we arrived, Leah Kelly was very helpful indeed in providing us with all the information we could need, and she met us at the apartment - she had checked our flight details and knew we were a bit delayed so was there to show us around, with some freshly baked bread, which was delicious! Thank you Leah.

The location is spot on for exploring all areas of Dublin. We never needed a taxi, and were 5 mins from Temple Bar, 5 mins from Tesco, and very close to all the main attractions. Despite this, it was quiet and we were never kept awake.

The apartment is in a lovely old building which is well kept and felt secure, but due to the high ceilings was quite cold! When we arrived it was reading only 13 degrees C on the kitchen radiator, and it took a while to get the warmth in! You can set the heaters as high as 35 degrees, but at preset times during the day (we noticed 12, 4 and 8) they revert back to the default 20 degrees. By the time we left it was nice and warm, but as it was snowing outside we had to keep the extra warm clothes on indoors for the first day or two.

The kitchen has most utensils you would need in it, but one of the reasons that we always go for apartments rather than hotels is that we like to cook for ourselves. As there was no oil, tin foil, cling film etc you need to bring everything you are going to use, which is a shame as most apartments will contain some kitchen essentials. We were left some tea bags, coffee, small packets of butter etc and a litre of milk. There is free wi-fi, which is quite fast.

On the whole very good - if location is important to you, you'll be very pleased with this apartment.

I am sorry that you found the apartment cold, I will get my husband Niall to fix the radiators so they do not reset back to 20 degrees. Thank you very much for your comment about what we should have in the kitchen regarding oil, tim foil etc. I will make sure to have these items in the kitchen from now on.

      Awesome Central apartment

Left on 03/16/2013 for a stay in March 2013

First, let me say that Leah Kelly (the owner) was excellent with emailing me and answering my questions. She was very quick with her responses and extremely helpful. You could not expect anyone to do a better job with giving the information you need for your visit to Dublin.

The apartment was beautiful and big. The high ceilings only made it seem bigger and majestic. It was so relaxing just sitting in the light filled living room. The kitchen was great, and everything you need is there for you--the bread, butter, tea, and milk were a great touch.

The bathroom is attached to the kitchen- not the bedroom. This is a bit odd, but otherwise the shower worked great. The only suggestion is that I wish there was a small bar of soap or liquid soap to use in the bathroom. We had to go out and buy soap for the bathroom.

I hated to leave the apartment. We really enjoyed out stay, and I would highly recommend it!

We had a great stay in the River Dodder apartment. The one bedroom apartment was spacious, bright (thanks to huge windows) and comfortable. Check-in with Niall was easy and quick. The fresh flowers on the table, milk in the fridge and basket of tea & coffee were a nice touch. The location is just across the Liffey from Temple Bar area making it very easy to walk every big site in Dublin without difficulty. Thank you Leah & Niall for the wonderful apartment!

Great location, close to nearly everything! The quay along the Liffey is quite busy with traffic but you don't notice that at all when you're inside (this apartment is at the backside of the building, don't know how it is when your apartment is in the front). Really great kitchen with really everything, perfect bathroom, two nice sofa's, double bed with excellent mattress. Everythig refurbished some months ago. Maybe a litte bit sterile but cosy enough.
At our arrival there was fresh Irish sodabread and also milk, butter, jam, tea, coffee. Why on earth stay in a hotel if you can stay here?

Situated just over the bridge from the Temple Bar area, it's a great apartment in the perfect location for walking around and exploring the centre of Dublin, yet quiet at night. Left on 11/01/2012 for a stay in October 2012

Excelent service - our flight was late due to fog - no problem - we were met and greated with real warmth by Niall.
Excellent facilities in the apartment and so convenient for the many attractions. Particulary good in the evenings when it was so easy to walk back, rather than undertake a long journey back.
The reason we did not judge comfort as excellent is that my husband is tall and the bed was a double bed which is not long enough for a tall person - a king size bed would make it perfect.

We stayed here in the Dodder apartment at the beginning of October. We were met at the door and shown around, lovely friendly owners! The apartment and communal areas were immaculate and much larger than expected. There was even a small decked garden for smokers. Everything we needed was supplied and they even give you some delicious soda bread on arrival.

The location was perfect, right on the river within a stones throw of the fantastic pub district of Temple Bar. Lots of Chinese takeaways just up the road as well as the ever popular Grafton Street for shopping.

I strongly recommend these apartments and I will definitely be returning!

Leah and Niall welcomed us with a nice loaf of fresh bread and coffee, tea and milk. The apartment is quite comfortable and considering its location right by the Liffey it wasn't noisy at all. The sofa bed was also very comfortable. We walked everywhere from it as it is very central, and the Luas was only 5 minute walk for the lazy days.
We can not complaint at all and for sure we'll be back if we get back Dublin again.

      Outstanding in every way

Left on 07/18/2012 for a stay in June 2012

Outstanding in every way is the best way to describe this apartment and the service provided by the team at Dublin Holiday apartments.

Responses to enquiries about the apartment were informative and quick. Payment was easy and secure. The rates for the apartment were much better than those quoted by nearby hotels (and I did a lot of research).

Checking into the apartment was hassle free (a relief as we were travelling from australia and were very tiered when we arrived). We were met out the front of the apartment by a member of the Dublin Holiday apartment team who showed us in and provided the relevant info about appliances etc.

The apartment itself was newly renovated. It is fresh, clean, well appointed, spacious and has absolutely everything you could possibly need for a holiday stay. It was one of the nicest apartments we have stayed in.

The location of the apartment is excellent. You have the convenience of being in the city centre but without the noise. It seemed a very safe area with ample places to eat, drink and shop all close by. Walk 2 minutes (across the river Liffey) and you are in the famous Temple Bar area with its multitude of entertainment options. All the tourist slights are well within walking distance and if you are not up for a walk that day (or it is raining) the hop-on hop-off tour buses stop just up the road (50m walk) otherwise it was very easy to hail a taxi from right outside the front door. The cost of a Taxi from the apartment to the airport was around €25.

All in all I could not recommend this apartment or Dublin holiday apartments highly enough!

The location is within walking distance to everything you want to see in Dublin (most attractions within half mile) . If it isn't within walking distance, the Luas rail or Dublin bus system has stops nearby to get you around town (we used hittheroad.ie for travel routes). I am not sure if there is off street parking, but there are several parking garages nearby.

The building is only accessible by key and is secure. The entry door is in a good area and appeared safe and has good lighting on a major street. There are private patios within the building. The building is equipped with free wireless internet. While you can hear the people in the other apartments on occasion, it is no worse than staying in any other apartment. There are two apartments on each floor, and we were more likely to hear our upstairs neighbor than anyone else. We rarely heard any noise except closing of doors and windows.

The Dodder apartment is on the second floor. The apartment is spacious and did not feel cramped. The entire apartment is hardwood or tile floors and is equipped with blinds which was great for my husbands allergies. Everything in the apartment was in like-new condition with no smells or stains. Each room has an individual heater. The apartment is not located on the main street, but towards the back of the building. The views from the window were of the courtyard and neighboring buildings.

The living room has two love-seat sized couches, and a kitchen table with seating for four pushed in the corner. One of the couches has a pull out bed with a thin mattress. My mother slept on the mattress and said she was comfortable during our week long stay. There is also a television and fire place. The kitchen has ample room and is located up two steps off the living room. There is a combination washer/dryer, microwave and a dishwasher. We had to look up directions for using the washer/dryer because it was not self explanatory. There is a coffee press, but no coffee maker. Otherwise, everything we needed was available in the kitchen.

The bathroom has heated floors, a separate heater and a single person, stand up shower.

The bedroom is located in odd spot closest to the entry door and stairway before you walk into the living area. We were afraid that this would allow us to hear a lot of noise from the stairs, but we didn't hear anything and slept just fine. The mattress is queen size and on the softer side, but we found it to be very pleasant. There are nightstands and closet space enough for two people.

I would highly recommend this apartment. I booked with Leah Kelly and communicated with her primarily by email and phone. She was wonderful and helpful. We paid via PayPal and were met with a key upon our arrival to the apartment. Our last night, we stayed in the newly refurbished Moy apartment on the top floor with views of the River Liffey. It is a two-bedroom apartment that was just as nice at the Dodder, but with a better layout and an extra bedroom and beautiful views. If you can stay in the Moy apartment, it is worth the extra expense. I believe the Moy apartment is on the fourth floor and the walk up can be cumbersome for people who have problems climbing stairs.
