My family of four, my inlaws and brother inlaw have been going to Shipswatch for about ten years. We have never been disappointed. The houses are spacious and well maintained. Any minor problem we've encountered has been addressed immediately by the onsite staff with both courtesy and diligence.
Shipswatch is in the perfect location tucked away from Duck Road traffic but right in town. We walked and biked into Duck this year every day for the paper for my father inlaw or with my daughters for a coffee and hot chocolate. The feeling of not needing a car is just another way we relax at Shipswatch.
The beach is awesome as you can be away from people if you walk a few hundred yards. The house comes with chairs and umbrellas so lugging those items down the beach is a bit of a choir (if that's your biggest problem for the day, your doing pretty well). After the beach, we walk to the pool for a late afternoon dip. The pool area is excellent with a huge pool and a hot tub. The kids never touch their electronics during the day which takes something extraordinary and this place is just that.
I had to get some work done during the week this year. The free wifi worked wonderfully. Working on the deck overlooking the ocean or with a sound view takes away some of the bite of having to put in the hours.
My only complaint is that we couldn't spend another week in Duck and at Shipswatch. We rented kayaks, biked, ran on the beach and the expansive bike path (get out early to avoid the heat of the day) And golfed at the Point and the Carolina Club. We ate at the Duck Deli, and the Sunset Grill. We enjoyed drinks at aqua, Sweet Ts, and the Sunset Grill's sound side bar. There are plenty of restaurants but call for reservations if you're set on one and have a big party as they fill up.
All in all Shipswatch did not disappoint this year again. Be back next year!
