Harrisburg PAOur favorite vacation spot
Left on 06/19/2012 for a stay in June 2012
We've been staying at Vandermyde for 7 years. It's a comfortable, pet friendly home. Not alot of double beds, but plenty of singles. Perfect for two families. What makes it so special is bringing the dog (s) and being able to just walk straight onto the beach! The computerized check in was a bit of a problem this year. We couldn't even get in 1/2 hr. early with the dog and a crying grandchild. So don't plan on showing up before 4 pm.

Left on 12/04/2011 for a stay in November 2011
We arrived to a house that had hair in the bathrooms, dirty kitchen, and windows. Had the price not been doubled for the holiday we might have been more forgiving of poor maintance and filth. The view and proximity to the beach was wonderful if you could get past the creepy feeling of someone elses dirt. I would not recommend this house to anyone.

Manager
Ms. Morelli,
Thank you for taking the time to provide a review of this property on your recent Thanksgiving vacation. We apologize that the property did not meet your expectation.
We consider cleaning of the properties to be a top priority, and to hear that this house was not prepared properly is disappointing.
We are very glad to hear you enjoyed the proximity to the beach and the extra day in the property at no extra charge over the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Vandermyde house has a very loyal following and we hope you realize your experience is an isolated incident.
All the best from the beach! -

We returned to VanderMyde after several years absence and found it as wonderful as before. As several other guests noted, adding a garbage disposal would be great. The return air filter in the downstairs hall should be cleaned and replaced and the screens on the side porch need replacing. These are small items in an otherwise lovely week...and we saw lots of dolphins the last 3 days...fabulous! We'll return next year...

We returned to Vandermyde after a 10 yr gap... and once again enjoyed the comfortable and warm accommodations and great location. Bike rides, walks, yoga, lounging, Tour de France, board games, puzzles, reading, sleeping, too much eating, and evening snacks and beverages on the deck-- all with family and friends-- life does not get much better than this. Thank you, Vandermydes and Outer Banks Blue

We were booked for our annual 2 weeks at the BAaks in another unit. When that house in Sanderling had last minute issues the folks at OBX Blue scrambled to find another house. And what a house! It was perfect in so many ways - large temperature perfect wine units (one for reds and one for the whites), a wet bar with ice maker, master bedroom on the main floor, comfortable furniture and perfect location - quiet and on the beach.
The Master bath was small and the King bed could use a new upgraded matteress, but, what the heck we were at the beach, the dog got a suntan and the wine was perfectly chilled. -

We enjoyed our stay at Vandermyde in Sanderling. The OUter Banks Blue
was attentive and responsive. The house was lovely (though the kitchen a little
small for us); the area was great for biking and walking; access to the beach
was better than I expected. The only negatives of the house were things you
cannot control - 1) the beach is narrow compared to Corolla and 2) it was
rented out for the weeks we wanted next summer. The one service-related
feature we did not like was the owner's requirement for a large deposit in the
event we were able to rent for next summer. -

Annapolis MDwe look forward all year to our week at the Vandermyde's home
Left on 07/31/2009 for a stay in July 2009
This house feels like our own beach home after staying here for so many years. It is cozy, comfortable and beachy - love the screen porch, love the upper deck, and love the community of Sanderling where we bike ride, walk, and chase sand crabs on the beach in the evening with our little dog. When we arrive, our dog is the first one out of the car, up the steps, then down the steps to the ocean. We're already looking forward to next summer as we always do - and trying to figure out if there's a way we can come back down for a long weekend between now and next July ! We missed the journal this year, love reading and writing in it, have even replaced it in the past - it was nowhere to be found when we sat down to document another wonderful week in Duck.

Wellsville, PALocation is great, air condtioning is old and not working.
Left on 06/25/2009 for a stay in June 2009
We love staying in this house because of the wonderful location! They are nice enough to allow us to bring our beloved doggies, and they love it there. We do appreciate that. We have stayed here for the last 4 years.
Our only problem with this house is that two years in a row we have had little or no air conditioning!
Last year both units were broken for at least half our stay and this year the upstairs unit was broken for our entire stay. It is hot in June in Duck! They brought some window units that broke right away (they were old and couldn't even come close to doing the job). Went all week without and basically couldn't use the entire top floors of the house. Very expensive house for everyone to share the lower level all week!
Hope they can get this fixed for next year. Hoping to hear from the Outer Banks Blue property manager about what they intend to do. -

Baltimore, MarylandGreat beach access, but not worth the money
Left on 09/23/2008 for a stay in August 2008
The beach access was unbeatable. I loved the location of the outside shower. However, the kitchen was small and difficult to maneuver. The house was dark and smelled musty. The screens of the screened in porch were torn. In all of our years of renting in Sanderling, this is the only house that did not have access to the Sanderling pool.
Response from Outer Banks Blue - 09/23/2008
Manager
Stephanie,
Thanks for giving us your feedback. We are sorry that you were disappointed with this property. Where this home is located (on the southernmost area of the Sanderling subdivision) the homes do not belong to the Sanderling pool club. I'm sorry you were under the impression that pool access was available. As far as I know we do not market this home with pool access in any way.
We are happy that you liked the beach access, and it of course is one of the few oceanfront homes that accepts pets, and it has a great repeat clientele.
We hope that you will return to the OBX soon and give us another try.
We look forward to serving you.
All the best from the beach!
