Relaxing stay in a beautiful home in a peaceful OBX community!

Our Labrador's Retreat was a beautiful, well-maintained home with nice views and a short walk to the beach. Our family enjoyed the hot tub, beach, community pool and short drive to the town of Duck. Ocean Sands was a peaceful community. It was nice to be able to take our dog Max, who also enjoyed his stay!

Location/neighborhood is great, 700feet to beach and walking distance to Duck village. We have rented this many times and have seen a deterioration of cleanliness of rugs, bed comforters and back yard. We washed the bed comforter and saw very noticeable cleanliness. I don't think it was ever washed since new. Ocean Blue was easy to deal with. Like most the house layout. Like least worn/stained carpet and dirty bedding comforters. Will be looking for other options in this neighborhood

We had a great vacation.

We loved staying in Labordor's Retreat. It had plenty of room for all of us and the living area was open and sunny. We loved using the hot tub and the crow's nest reading room. The one recommendation we'd like to make is the lighting over the dinning room table was too intense. Putting dimmers on the switchers would easily solve that problem. All in all though, it was a great place to stay.
Family Vacation with the dogs

We had a great time at Our Labrador's Retreat. The house was spacious and clean. Despite allowing dogs on the property, there were signs of damage from the dogs. There's also a lot of surrounding brush around the house which kept the dogs nearby when we let them outside.
It was approximately 6 houses from the beach so it was a very short walk. There's a community pool approximately the same distance in the other direction.
The hot tub was great and the owners left some beach supplies such as chairs for us to use. The house had lots of nice extras such as a collection of Dvd's to watch and a large screen TV with surround sound
There wasn't much we didn't like. The kitchen utensils and tools were pretty poor, especially the lack of knives, but that is understandable in a rental home.
Overall a great trip and we would definitely go back to this house.
A well equipped home in a perfect location

We have been to the Outer Banks numerous times and have stayed in both Corolla and Duck. We especially enjoyed our stay at Our Labrador's Retreat and definately plan to return there on our next stay. Best of all, we liked the location ... a short walk to the beach, near to bike trails and the shops in Duck which allowed our teenagers (13 and 15 years) to safely ride to town for pizza and ice cream, and within a few miles of 2 supermarkets (we recommend Harris Teeter over Food Lion) and a Walmart. The house had great ammenities, including a well equipped kitchen and beach chairs. A backyard pool would have been nice, but the community pool and tennis courts are very close by. Best of all, we were able to bring our mini dachshund! All in all, a perfect vacation spot.

Overall the house was very comfortable and the location was great. We've
been going to OBX for years but it was our first time at this location and
renting with OBX Blue. Although we enjoyed the house we felt the
management company could be doing a better job for the owners.
First, the bed linens were not very clean. When I turned down the master
bedroom sheets the first night the top sheet looked dirty. Fortunately there
was an extra set in the closet. The bedspreads and blankets also needed
washing. The master bedroom bedspread was covered in dog hair. Same with
the furniture. I recognize this is a pet friendly house but the furniture should
be free of dog hair. We don't allow our dog to sit on the furniture.
Also the kitchen had one cutting knife and it was very dull. I expected more
for a 5 bedroom house.
Great house & location

We especially liked the keyless entry feature so that we could come and go without checking in with a real estate company along with lots of others, and we didn't have to worry about who had the key. The house was great, very clean, and convenient to the beach. The neighborhood was quiet, grill got lots of use and, our labrador was right at home, once he got used to being hosed off every time he came home from the beach and being confined to the deck while he dried off! He usually has trouble with stairs, but the carpeted stairs here were easy for him, even up and down 2 flights.

Our stay in OBX was fabulous. The home we stayed in was perfect for our needs. Just a few hundred feet from the beach, we were able to see sunrises from the deck, and gaze at the stars at night.

Beach Week 2009

We had a wonderful time in this home. We were a diverse family group of sisters and cousins, all celebrating graduations in our families. We liked the layout of the home, the proximity to the beach, the keyless entry process, the ability to make payments online. All very supported by a responsive staff. The location in Ocean Crest (at the south end of Duck) was very nice and within walking distance to "town" and shopping and eating. All in all, a wonderful house, a wonderful week and a great staff at Outer Banks Blue. Would like to rent again, probably for the same week. (We were a bit worried about any allergic people regarding pets being allowed in the house, but no incidents occurred due to this. We did not bring pets with us).
A perfect vacation

We had an absolutely wonderful vacation in OBX. Our Labrador's Retreat is a gorgeous home that offers anything anyone could want. The house was very clean, decorated very nicely, close to the beach and community amenties, and pet friendly too. What more could anyone want in a vacation home. The ocean views are lovely and the loft was my favorite place to read and drink tea every morning. Watching the sunrise from there was awesome. All of the decks were great for sitting outside and my husband enjoyed the jacuzzi. And it was an added bonus to take our furry little friend Marley. All in all this is the perfect place to stay and we are already planning our trip for next summer.
Everything we wanted!

Our black lab, Cooper, loved his vacation home! It is just a short walk to the beach and the pool area. The house had everything we wanted, and Cooper loved hanging out in the shipswatch keeping an eye on the neighborhood when he wasn't at the beach! We loved it as a cozy spot to sit and read. We had one small problem with the TV when we arrived, but Outer Banks Blue had a repairman there quickly and he kept on trying different solutions until he had it working beautifully! The quick and thorough response was wonderful.

Upon check in the house was not clean. There were pet odors in the kitchen, and after I cleaned the floor it was better. There were pet stains throughout the house on the carpets. The towels were filthy and had to be replaced. The outside deck furniture was broken. The grill’s location is in a poor spot and the backyard is very overgrown. This could be a very great house if there was better upkeep and some upgrades were made. The house itself is beautiful and has a great location, but it could use some work. Read more
Thank you for your review of "Our Labrador's Retreat." We apologize that previous guests let their animal stain the carpet and that you had issues with the clean towels that were left.
I'm glad to see that you had a good time however, and I'm happy to report that we did have the carpets cleaned after your stay. I'm just sorry we didn't get them before your arrival.
We look forward to serving you again soon.
All the best from the beach!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Our Labrador's Retreat! The home is in a beautiful neighborhood, within a short distance of the shops in Duck. We walked to the beach every day, and could hear the ocean from the top floor deck. The walking/biking trail is only a few yards away, so Millie (our dog) got lots of fun walks! The home was very nicely furnished and very clean. Guests should be aware that the owner does not provide beach towels or beach gear such as boogie boards, pails and shovels, etc., so bring your own if you are driving. And there is nothing in the kitchen except dishes and cooking utensils, so you'll need to shop for things like napkins, cleaning supplies, foil, etc.
