Hughesville, PAGreat location!!!
Left on 10/17/2012 for a stay in August 2012
We rented through Outer Banks Blue. Their service was great, always friendly.
The location can't be beat. Views are magnificent!!!
The home is adequately furnished. No complaints.
But, maintenance leaves something to be desired. The home in general needs some TLC and upkeep. Worn rugs, missing or broken screens, etc.
Housekeepin not the greatest.
But, considering the location and the views, I would stay there again. Just wish more upkeep was tended to.Response from Outer Banks Blue - 05/08/2013

House seemed like it was falling apart. Had a different issue every day. Ceiling was falling and leaking, rugs upstairs were soaked and mildew, kitchen sink was leaking, saw some cocaroaches.

Tidewater, VirginiaA perfect oceanfront vacation.
Left on 09/28/2009 for a stay in August 2009
My entire family consisting of 7 adults and 1 small child enjoyed a week at the beach in late August. Our oceanfront cottage was perfect for our needs. Comfortable with all of the amenities found in the more expensive homes. We especially enjoyed our own private pool when we wanted to cool off and get out of the sand and salt water. Located a mile north of the village of Duck, NC, I would recommend it to a group of eight or fewer.

The best thing about the house is its location -- just north of Duck and right on the beach. The size is perfect for us and our two dogs. It has a large comfortable family room open to a large dining area and kitchen. It's one of the older houses on Buffel Head Road so it doesn't have the stately appearance most of the other houses have. The furnishings are adequate and comfortable except the deck furniture. The hard wooden chairs could use some furniture pads.
The major negative is an outdated entertainment system (no CD player) and no instructions for how to use the components they do have so you are left to figure out how to manipulate the 4 remotes and other controls on the components.
Despite that inconvenience, we really enjoyed being right on the beach feeling the beautiful ocean breezes throughout the house. We would certainly consider renting Kestrel's Perch again in the future. -

Left on 08/01/2009 for a stay in July 2009
the home suited our family's needs/wants as far as size, location, pool, dog friendly. we liked the layout and the fact that the two master bedrooms faced the ocean.
we were disappointed with the condition of the carpeting. there were stains (large stains) in every room and in the upstairs hallway. also, there were no mattress pads on the beds.
the pool lights did not work so we couldn't be at the pool in the evening, which we like to do. also, there was a great sound system at the house with outdoor speakers but we could not figure out how to enable it. Additionally, all of the oceanfront deck lights were burnt out. when i inquired about these issues with outer banks blue, i never received a return phone call.
the home should come with a manual of instructions for the different features that make it unique, such as the pool area and the stereo.
this house would have been perfect if:
1. the carpets were clean
2. the beds had mattress pads
3. the lights at the pool and on the deck worked
4. the outdoor stereo system worked

Ms. Conley,
Thank you for your feedback on Kestrel's Perch from your stay in 2009. One of the great things about this site is that the homeowner has the ability to see direct feedback from their guests, and in this particular case Krestrel's Perch has been recently updated for some significant improvements to the property.
Suffice to say that your issues with this property have been addressed and in fact the homeowner has put in several upgrades and improvements to the property for the 2013 rental season.
We look forward to your return to Kestrel's Perch and trust that you won't be disappointed when you return.

We loved the house and waking up to the wonderful view each day. We found everything to be clean and in working order. The porches were perfect for a toddler and dog. We REALLY appreciated the cooler with all the goodies upon our arrival. We have rented from other companies where not even a square of toilet paper was there on arrival. The keyless entry was wonderful as well! All these touches made for a hassel free start to our vacation.

Baltimore, MarylandDisappointment
Left on 10/01/2008 for a stay in September 2008
We were initially disappointed because the house was not very clean. With two small children, I found it necessary to vacuum immediately as there was dog hair and crumbs around the floor. The sofa and kitchen table cushions were also stained in several areas and seemed dingy. Most importantly, we rented this house because it was suppose to have a heated pool. The heater did not work all week - pool maintenance came out a few times but never got the heater to work. We were told this has been an on-going problem due to a leak in the pool. This house should not advertise as having a heated pool if it is not working. I feel we rented the house under false pretenses.

Manager
Ms. Zygala,
Thank you for your feedback on your stay. I apolgize that your expectations were not met. The pool vendor has advised us that the pool heating problems have been corrected. I'm sorry that was not the case during your stay.
We hope you will give this home another chance in the near future.

Bethesda, MDGood location.
Left on 10/01/2008 for a stay in August 2008
The house is in a good location, but it has suffered neglect.
It was absolutely filthy when we checked in. The floor was hard brown with dirt and we had to mop it more than 10 times before it came clean enough to let kids near it. There were large wooden splinters in the carpet. The shower curtains were covered in mildew and mold. MBR sink backed up and started spewing some kind of thick black goo.
On the up side, the folks at Outer Banks Blue were very responsive. They apologized for the uncleanliness of the house and they responded quickly to replace the shower curtains and fix the sink.
It was also surprising that the house had no beach chairs, no beach umbrella, beach toys, etc. Similarly, there were no baking pans in the kitchen. We even had to buy a new mop head.

Manager
Joliet Jake,
Thank you for your review. We again apologize for the property not being as clean as expected upon your arrival. I am happy to see however that we were able to rectify the issues promptly.
This is one of our most popular homes, and it is my hope that you will give the home a second chance.

I was looking for an OBX location for a group of women and decided that Duck would offer options other than just the beach. Kestrel's Perch offers an ideal location near shops and restaurants with a fabulous beach location.
It is an older property, making it one of the more affordable choices in Duck, NC. The property is well maintained and has a prime beach-front location.
While the interior decorating is nothing notable, it is very comfortable and clean and we greatly enhjoyed our visit and would recommend a stay here to anyone.
We had six ladies from all across the country meet for a girl's beach retreat and had everything we needed for a memorable and relaxing vacation. GREAT MEMORIES FOR EVERYONE! -

VaVery nice- needs a little upkeep
Left on 09/23/2008 for a stay in June 2008
We enjoyed the house and the pool. The house overall needs a little up keep- the windows and doors needed to be cleaned and the oven really needed a good cleaning. When the oven was pre-heating it actually caught on fire- which was a problem bc we had two infants with us. Fortunately, it was very containable and no damage was done.
Other than a little upkeep the house was good and we enjoyed the view and the pool and hot tub.Response from Outer Banks Blue - 04/01/2009

Jessica,
Thank you for your feedback on this very popular oceanfront home. I apologize that the oven didn't meet your expectations. We have since your stay taken care of this situation with the stove.

We enjoyed our stay here for our second year in a row! It seems like the owners upgraded the carpet last year which was a nice addition. The house has everything you need for vacation, ocean views, great porches, a hot tub, a private pool and a great video collection. I am not sure what was better the sunrises or the sunsets! The best part is we can bring our dog for a little rest and relaxation, too!
