A perfect end to a successful college year (4 students/4 parents
Left on 06/18/2012 for a stay in May 2012 | 8 Dowds
We are New Englanders who had never visited the Outer Banks but had heard some great things so we thought we would venture down in late May to celebrate the end of our kids' college year. The Sunday we drove in was windy and raining and we truly believed our beach vacation might be a total washout with threats of Tropical Storm albert. Fortunately when we got to avalon, we were so excited about the house that we forgot to be upset about the weather! The pictures do not do it justice!!! It is gorgeous, spacious, well equiped and we would all be able to find our own "space" if we were stuck inside. The views are breathtaking, even in the rain. When we woke up Monday morning to sunshine, we woke up everyone thinking it was a fluke and we needed to take advantage of the good weather. Well, it turned out we didn't need to hurry, because the rest of the week was spectacular as well. I guess you can't trust the forecast in the Outer Banks!!! We loved the pool and the access to the beach. We ate our breakfast, lunch and some dinners on the deck without any bugs bothering us. We enjoyed the proximity to Duck Center and made Duck Donuts a stop three of the mornings!!! We found Duck to be a great destination with some shops and restaurants but not too crowded, especially in late May. We visited Kitty Hawk and loved that tour. We didn't want to leave avalon for any long periods since nothing beat that view, but we did spend our last night at the Sunset Grille and got some amazing photos of a perfect sunset. The only negative of the house involved the gas grill, but Outer Banks blue was quick to respond and get us a rental grill for the week. Also, internet coverage could be shaky at times, so if you needed to work from the house, you may need to investigate the reasons for the inconsistency. Overall, we all had an absolute blast in OBX!!!

The customer service we received with Outer Banks Blue was great! They answered any questions that we had, along with the owner of avalon and accommodated us with any of our requests/needs. Great to work with!
The home we rented was at a great location, direct Ocean Front with wonderful views of the sunrise and sunsets. The home was stocked with all of the amenities you need for a week long get-a-way.
We will use Outer Banks Blue service again should be visit the Outer Banks area in the near future.
Thank you to Outer Banks Blue and the owners of "Avalon" for a great get-a-way with our family!

Hurricane Irene threw off our vacation days but after we did get to the house everything was good. We didn't get to use the pool due to the hurricane damage but we occupied ourselves with the many other things to do in OBX.
Enjoyed the OBX - wish the property was in better condition
A little disappointed in the condition of the property

The house is in a great location and plenty of bedrooms - only thing that saved the day. One problem with the location though the house is adjacent to a public walkway with an entrance to the beach, this is right next to the property. House had many condition issues - exposed nails, sliders did not work properly - had wood boards to secure the slider for locking it, gates did not close, bottom bedroom smelled musty. This was definitely a downer considering what we paid to rent the house for a week.

The service for "Avalon" was outstanding. We enjoyed the house very much. The location was perfect!
My favorite was "Everything". My least favorite was that Hurricane Irene shortened our stay and we were evacuated. As a side note, as of 9/28/11, we have not received our refund.
We definately want to return, but I think maybe late May or early June.

Loved OBB concept of early entry - Blue-Ribbon property and code entry, but we were very disappointed to find only 1 refrigerator and an icemaker that had been reported as not working 2 weeks prior to our arrival.
Further, OBB offered reimbursement for our ice expense but just didn't seem to care that we would have to go out every day because there was no place to store it. We gave them several suggestions to help us but they only wanted to explain that it was the owner's decision to take action. What a shame.
Lastly, one of the rooms only have a double bed.. very small. It seems a strange layout of rooms that does not easily accomadate our group.
Obb could still make this experience better for us, (hint!) but with their lack of consideration to help, i doubt we will hear from them.
Under those circumstances and without intervention by them, we will not use OBB in the future. (It could have gone a much different way, so currently we are very dissatisfied.)

The location of this house is perfect, an easy bike ride into Duck. One night we enjoyed whales and dolphins swimming by. House is clean and nicely furnished. Service from realtor was excellent. Only problem was the hot tub didn't work and we were compensated for that. Be aware there are a lot of stairs.
We would rent it again.

The house was lovely. Loved the deck access from every bedroom. Loved the 4 king bedrooms. However, we had multiple problems during our stay. The dryer did not work well at all, even after someone came to repair. I didn't even bother washing towels, because they would never have dried before our return home. During the week, we learned to just dry them outside. The aC had a problem and didn't work and soaked the carpet on the midlevel, requiring another service call. A second fridge, either on the bottom level, or top, would be a great improvement. There was no broom in the house. We called and asked for one, but never received one. The mattresses and sheets were delightful and overall the house was comfortable.

We had a great time. Loved the pool and easy access to the ocean. Only problem with little kids, the standard size gates were too small to close off the stairwells. We used an extra large cooler to block the stairways which worked very well. The master bedrooms were great, it was so nice to have 3 since there were 3 families staying there. Loved the kitchen and the huge dining room table it was convienent to seat everyone for dinners and breakfast. The porch swing was a nice added bonus to read bedtime stories on. We loved all the deck space, it was nice to be outside when the little kids were napping or sleeping for the night.

The outside of the property isn't perfect, but on the inside it's wonderful. Cleaning staff did a great job preparing the house. It was in perfect condition. The house is very roomy, nicely appointed and decorated. We've had experiences where the lower level was practically unusable due to dampness and smell; not here... lower level was very comfortable: bunk room for 4 kids, bathroom, laundry and awesome game room with pool table and PS2 system. All the other floors were equally as comfortable and spacious. The Great Room combination with kitchen/dining/family room made for a great place to hang out together with an awesome view right down to the beach. Rambling decks all around provide a sanctuary for anyone seeking a quite place to read or just think. We all enjoyed the pool tremendously. The direct access from pool area to a boardwalk with stairs down to the beach (no schlepping over the dunes) was very convenient. Note: the boardwalk is public, so if you are shy about strangers walking by the pool area you may have a problem with that; but it didn't bother us at all; additionally, the gates are in poor condition and should be fixed asap. There were some reviews that said the kitchen wasn't well stocked; this is true to an extent but not nearly as bad as some of the reviews indicate. Perhaps they've taken that criticism to heart. Still, if you are a gourmet chef, you may want to bring certain specialty items. A few minor issues in the kitchen were addressed quickly by the friendly people at Outer Banks Blue. In general, a comfortable house in a great location that was more affordable than many other similar homes in the area, so a good value too!
Great beach location but multiple issues for the amount of money

The service we received from Outer Banks Blue Realty was outstanding! Not once did my husband or I ever have an issue with an employee or have a question left unanswered. We really were pleasantly surprised at the level of professionalism. The Avalon vacation home we stayed in had great space for our large family. We enjoyed the layout and room sizes. Unfortunately, the home wasn't as clean as we would have liked upon arrival. Sand in bedroom drawers, trash left under several beds, and trash left in closets from previous guests. It was obvious the cleaning crew didn't look under/over anything or open any drawers. The kitchen wasn't up to our standards either. Recleaning an already "cleaned" home after driving 20 hours just to get there wasn't our cup of tea! The location was absolutely priceless! We were extremely happy with the location of the beach house and the amenities were great. We really didn't need anything else. The televisions were amazing! Another downfall was the gates in and around the house were falling apart and didn't open very well....that can make it tough when carrying all the beach equipment. They need fixed or replaced. The hot tub also had some wires exposed and made it a little shaky whether we should attempt to use it or not. Overall the location of the house was it's best feature and we truly enjoyed the views each and every morning. What we liked the least was the money we paid to have a "clean" home that promised a hot tub ,etc. and it wasn't at all like advertised.

We've been coming to the outer banks for at least 35 years (I was a child...)so we've had many homes and dealt with many realtor companies.
You all have been excellent in the communications on e-mail, responsiveness of requests and all done in a friendly and professional manner. We have nothing but accolades and positive feedback for everyone in the office.
We LOVE this house and have had it many times over the last few years. We won't let it go again (and with the online communication it shouldn't be an issue)
We love the location and general lay out of the house. The views are spectacular. The owners should know that we appreciated the flat screen tv and pool table amenities.
If I HAVE to mention a "least" it continues to be the overall outfitting of serving dishes, big pots and cookware. Knowing this, we take a crab pot and our own serving dishes. This year, however, there was only one large pot to cook which meant I boiled the spaghetti noodles in our crab pot (the large pot had the sauce of course) We are feeding 12 so we routinely need larger pots. I made brownies and had to cook in a round pie pan (no 8x8 square pans) The brownies managed to be great despite their roundness!
Thank you for all you do in the office with the paperwork. It took very little effort to make the arrangements. By the way, we all think we had the most amazing week ever.....weather, green clear water and a cool breeze made it really perfect! But there is never really a bad vacation in the outer banks!

This was a wonderful home to stay in. Located right on the beach, it had breathtaking views throughout the house! With plenty of room, this is the perfect house for a large family or for a family get together.
Having young children made this a great house to stay in. It made taking gear to the beach a breeze. Also located near the shoppes in Duck, it was convenient to not have to drive a long way for a nice restaurant.
If staying off season, you should note that this house does not offer a heated pool, but does have a hot tub. Also to take into consideration is the lack of extras in the house. These are basics that would make life easier and do not take away from the beauty of the house. Having to pack or purchase things like salt, pepper, and other basic condiments makes for a bit of a nuisance and inconvenience (something many other homes usually have on hand). So make sure you pack these things beforehand as well as all your paper goods.

Great Location, Lots of Sun in the morning and evening. Disappointed with the dirty pool and pool surroundings. Sand 3-4 inches deep around pool area. Pool full of sand, crabs, trash etc. Unable to even sit and enjoy the sun around the pool. Next door neighbors had emaculate pool and pool area. Gas Fireplace not working. (should advertise only for appearances) Probable will not book there again but loved Duck beach and Outer Banks.

We were disappointed with the conditions of the hot tub ( the management facility was wonderful they came right away) the it was not up to standards for us the pool was not keep up at all sand and even a chair in the bottom Even though it was November you would think they would keep it clean from the sand and the crabs and cover it up so it will be in good shape for season. We had little black bugs in the kitchen and a smell in the home. We did have a wonderful time the house was huge and was wonderful access to everything. thank you

We are a group of 5 women who love to spend a week in the Duck area in October each year. This home was perfect for us, great rooms, access to the beach was so easy and we had a full moon the whole week to watch rise every evening from the deck! Kichen had everything we needed. We will be back!

Overall it was a good house. There were some issues like only one of the dishwashers working, an ant issue in the kitchen, and the air conditioning not working very well in the second flood master suite. Beach access was great, shower head pressure was wonderful, and the basketball hoop made the vacation.

This was the best so far. Made you feel at home. Our weather wasn't the best to start out with but it didn't make any difference because this place was GREAT.
I hope we are as lucky to find another place like this in 2009

I would recommend staying at the Avalon. On our check in day the owners of the property had a welcome basket delivered to us.
The Avalon has everything you could ever want. We had the whole family during our stay at the home under one roof and never felt on top of each other. From the game room to the two master suites and laundry..this house has it all.
Will definitely be back!

I already wrote that the house was dirty when we checked in - the carpets were very dirty - the outside grounds were in need of some attention - lots of sand by the door to the walk to the beach. Read more
Thank you for your feedback on this home. Since your stay we have had the carpets cleaned, and the owner will be addressing their overall condition in the off season.
The exterior grounds have been policed for trash and debris, but I assume you may be addressing the natural setting that the owner has decided to leave the landscaping at the property. We will be sure to pass your thoughts along to the owner that the grounds may need some attention.
We look forward to serving you again soon.
