This is a fairly average house. I would have given it 3 and a half stars if possible, as the amenties make up for some of the negatives. Interior is very dated in the older part. You can tell the portion of the house that has the 3rd floor bonus room is a modern addition, and those two king suites and bonus room are nice. The rest of the house shows it age. The closets in the remaining bedrooms smelled absolutely terrible, we did not store anything in them because clothes/towels absorbed the mildewy/musty smell. The floor plan is also not the greatest, four bedrooms off of the main living/dining/kitchen area and very thin walls. Early risers wake everyone up. Our group also did not like the fact that there was no bathroom not in a bedroom. Yes, there are four bathrooms, but you had to enter someone's bedroom to access any of them. Kind of awkward, and the two bathrooms in the older part of the house were very small.
All that said, everything else was great. The pool and hot tub were superb, the views from the 3rd floor beautiful, and a relatively short walk to either the beach or sound. The service from the realty company was great, we had ants when we arrived and they sent someone out the next morning. This is a great value house for the Outer Banks, and we had a wonderful vacation. If these things mentioned don't bother you, this is the house for you.
One minor detail, the listing said there was a Playstation 2, but it was not there (we looked, kids wanted to play on the one rainy day), so don't count on that. Not a big deal as we were not inside much except for the one day.
Have stayed 3 times, best bang for your buck on the beach

We've stayed here now 3 times in 4 years. The house has a lot of room to spread out in and the pool and hot tub are great to come back to after a day at the beach. The walk to the beach doesn't take long, and the beaches are clean, the people polite and nice.
There are some minor cosmetic things that need attended to... the decking has some splinters, the electronics are out of date. However, they do have free wi-fi, which was nice to be able to check your emails and play computer games on the rare rainy day we've had there.
Give this house a try!

The Sailfish was a wonderful experience. My family has been traveling to the outer Banks for the past 27 years, and this was by far one of the best houses we have stayed in. There were plenty of spaces to either have fun playing games as a family, or separate space for alone time or reading a quiet book. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

great time, but very dated decor

No problem with the rental, but the decor was very dated. Also, needed more dishes/silverware. We have a big family and rented two houses ... but often ate in one or the other.

We had been going to Rehoboth Beach Delaware for 30 year and tried this house in Duck this year with some reluctance. Out of 14 total family members, all of us loved the house and amenities. It is a beautiful and spacious house. There was plenty of space for the kids to play. The Beach Realty Kitty Hawk Staff were very helpful and prompt in responding to our questions. We already booked again for next year!!! Can't wait to go back!

Excellent house for the money. Nice pool and hot tub, lots of decking, tho needs resanding. Nice great/dining/kitchen area. 4 bathrooms, but need to go through a bedroom to get to any. short walk to beach. Overall a great value for the money.
Mano's at the Beach
Nice house, but pretty far from the narrow beach

The house was very nice. This is the 13th time we've been to the Outer Banks (5th house) and it is the first house that we've stayed in with the majority of the bedrooms on the same level as the kitchen/dining/living areas. The house needed minor improvements (not enough plates/glasses and we kept tripping the kitchen breaker) but overall was wonderful. The pool was big and had a deeper end which was nice.
The location was farther from the beach than originally stated. We mapped it at almost 400 yards to the beach access.
The beach was incredibly narrow where we entered. There were families in front of families next to more families. Walking South toward the pier, the beach did get wider, but it was too far to lug all of the beach stuff. Also, at the end of the week, a storm eroded half of the already small beach area. I'm not sure what happens in this event because our week was over.
We will be back to the Outer Banks, but will most likely look in Ocean Sands or Corolla next time.

We had a great sunny warm week. even though our week was early in the season the pool was warm and we had plenty to do if the weather was iffy...but it was not. we enjoyed the extra gathering rooms, especially the upstairs "loft" area since we had various age groups of young and older adults.

My family (15 total) stayed at The Sailfish in June 2011. This was our first ever beach rental, and we didn't know what to expect. The house, while well used, was clean and had all of the amenities that we needed. The kitchen was well stocked with all kinds of cookware and appliances. Even the walk to the beach (4 min.)wasn't as far as we thought it would be. All told, this house represents a good value for the money, and we are already making plans for a two week stay in the future.

The house had a stale smell for the first 3 days of the stay. We had to open all windows to make smell go away. The house and furnishings need a major update, the Hot Tub was dirty and overall wasnt a very good experience. Read more

We had a very nice week in Duck NC. The Sailfish was very nice. Good location, kept us all healthy (approx. 2 block walk to beach) There were a couple little quirks. We had a cricket problem in a 2nd floor king unit. Son, wife and grandson had to move to another room. Called ofc. and an exterminator came that afternoon. Nice guy. Evening was a little creepy with so many spiders. One of God's creations. :) Nice pool. Not liking the strange grass in NC with the sharp spikey burrs??? Weird. Overall it was a nice place to stay.

Great property for the price! House looks "tired" from the road, but inside was decent. Private pool & screened in spa made our stay very relaxing. Kitchen was well-equipped, but many of the dishes had to be rewashed before using. House was fairly clean, but definately not thoroughly clean (cobwebs in corners & one bath rug smelled of urine). Plenty of entertainment areas even with a large group. We had 13 people ranging in ages from 2 yrs., teens & adults. There was still plenty of privacy & activities to keep all occupied. Real nice Rec. room with pool table & dartboard. Dartboard darts were broken, but we called & immediately someone was sent over with an entire set of brand new darts. Great library! Quick walk to the beach past beautiful homes. House has personal supply of beach toys for children & body boards. Overall definately a great value for the money!
