Fredericksburg, Vawe all had a relaxing time
Left on 07/25/2012 for a stay in July 2012
everything was great. Changes since last year were much appreciated.
exceptions:
had a few small piles of dust to vacuum on check-in.
phone did not work Saturday when we tried to "express check-out".
remote in kitchen did not work.
door in driveway-side bathroom did not lock.
window in other upstairs bathroom did not lock [we reported this last year].
would be nice to have a second tall kitchen trashcan marked for recycle; also the blue outside trash bin marked for recycle.
the kitchen deck looked like it had been cleaned, but table and chairs need to be put back on it for sunrise dinners.
Look forward to "Ben and Judy's" thru 2015 and reserving 2016 when the computer allows it. -

Long Branch, NJgreat beach house!
Left on 09/18/2011 for a stay in July 2011
we loved this house as far as convenience and location and what it had to offer. we were 3 families with children of all ages so it was perfect. the only issue was the air conditioning was not up to par. really could not cool the house well. the house could use a face lift but that would not deter me from coming back.

With this being our first visit to the OBX, we weren't sure what to expect. The house was even better than what was shown in the pictures from the website. All bedrooms had Tv's and the house had wireless internet, which wasn't something we anticipated. The furniture was comfortable, the house was very clean, the decks were well maintained and the kitchen was loaded with appliances and amenities. The private walkway to the beach made our experience even better due to traveling with 4 kids ages 6 to 12. The house also had an outside shower which came in very handy to rinse sand before entering the house. Our only mild complaint about the house was how narrow the spiral staircase was. We are a "plus" size family and the staircase was fairly tight. However, the house had two outside staircases that made gaining access to the ground level very easy. Our family would love to have the opportunity to rent this house again. We couldn't have had a better first experience to the OBX!!!

Mount Airy, MarylandGreat Location - Inside Filthy
Left on 06/26/2011 for a stay in June 2011
Just spent a great week at Ben & Judy's. Great pool, hot tube and private access to beach. Two families of four fit just right. Only real downside was the filthy inside conditions when we arrived. Hair all over the matress pads. Counters, sink, etc. had not been cleaned. Used towels hanging in the downstairs bathroom. Ok, so it's a beach rental but when you spend $5k on a place you don't expect to have to clean it up and sleep in other people's hair!! Also a very musty smell throughout the house that kicked up our daughter's asthma. The beach house looks like it was built in the 70's and one of the originals. Location is outstanding, and the outside pool, hot tub and beach access were perfect. Very nice on the electronics with big screen LCD Tv's, Ipod docking stereo, tons of movies and books. So in short, if you have a low gross tolerance, maybe not for you. Otherwise, a great place to stay.

Louisville, KYWhat we were wishing for and more
Left on 06/09/2011 for a stay in May 2011
Our stay at Ben and Judy's was exactly what we hope for and more relaxing and enjoyable than we imagined. This was a perfect rental home for us as it is situated in Duck, a peaceful and beautiful town with not much commercial activity, private pool and hot tub, and located on an area of beach that is not overly populated. The rental management company, Resort Realty, was great to work with. They were extremely responsive to all our needs before and during our stay. Gigi, with Resort Realty was particularly delightful and helpful in creating the perfect vaca for me and my family. I have never had customer service like she provided! Gigi's kindness and helpfulness has caused me to consider her one of my own! I would only hope I would have the opportunity to welcome her to my hometown one day! What a great asset she is to Resort Realty! Although there were a couple of unforeseen happenings (i.e. air condition went out), Resort Realty was extremely prompt in bringing out window units to ensure our comfort until the problem was resolved. The problem was resolved within 24 hours with a new air condition unit! Everything is obviously well kept between renters. My family had the best vacation here!! We Will Be Back!! :)

Columbus, OhioGreat location, weird smell and dangerous stairs
Left on 05/23/2011 for a stay in May 2011
We just returned from a great week in Duck. Ben and Judy's was accomodating but I agree with previous reviews that the house has a strange/musky smell, esp the downstairs area. The indoor stairs are wooden spiral stairs, not a good fit for our 2, 3 and 6 yo boys. The baby gate at the top of the stairs was broken so we had to use our suitcases to block them. We ended up not using the downstairs at all. The location is fabulous and the heated pool was a must for mid-May.
Overall the house feels dated, they need to do some upgrades. Carpet was really dirty, ceiling was peeling in several places. Every gadget does exist in the kitchen which made cooking nice, oddly though no pizza cutters could be located. Overall I felt like the entire house was assembled from garage sale items like the owners don't want to put money into the place (except for the flat screen tv's). I think the largest bed was a queen so the husband and I slept in different rooms. The towels were like sandpaper. I had to wash them twice with fabric softener. I've never stayed at a rental property that required you to provide so much, such as trash can liners, maybe its standard though. Couldn't locate a dust pan either.
The rental company was very nice. The pool heater went out and the hose broke on the vacuum. We also heard an animal in the walls. They responded very quickly, addressed all of them within 24 hours. -

We arrivived 2 days after huricane Earl came and everything was great. Ben and Judy's house fit 10 of us just right. The pool was great, the hot tub had to be looked at, but after that was running well we had a blast. We are looking forward to returning in two years and we will try to get Ben and Judy's again.

Location was great, close to shopping. You cannot beat beachfront with a pool! The house was nice with all the kitchen gadgets you can think of. The outside beach deck is amazing. A little too hot to really enjoy the hottub. Loved the movie selection. There were no lifeguards so you do have to watch your love ones. It was great to have both options, beach or pool.
The house furnishings were somewhat outdated, but very kid friendly. A good value for the price.
We had a memorable stay. -

It accomodated 11 of us very comfortably...overall, we had a good time... the pool was a necessity w/temps 95 and above all week...traffic was just horrible, it took us approx 2 1/2 hrs from the Wright bridge to get to your office in Duck for a Sat check in...while there, getting out of parking lots from shoping/dinner was equally as bad...no courtesy in allowing vehicles back onto Rt 12...riding a bike on the bike path is no casual walk in the park , with the traffic the way it is.
I realize we are a captive audience whiile there, but prices are too high for groceries/dinning,etc give the state of our economy
We would probably not return for the reasons stated above.

The pool was very nice at this home and the location was awesome. Having said that I was disapointed in the home. It was not very clean and had an odor to it. I was also disapointed with the Realtor, they were not very friendly when we checked in which supprised me as we have rented with several different realtors in the outer banks in the past.

Left on 07/16/2009 for a stay in June 2009
This was our first family vacation at the beach. Everyone enjoyed being on the beach and having the pool as a secondary option. The view and surroundings were very nice.
The house was large and clean. The large kitchen was nice especially with a large group. The owner needs to do some upgrades to make the place a little nicer. We reported a few problems which we were told had to go to another level other than the man who came out.
I would look for another place first before I came back to this one. -

Left on 07/16/2009 for a stay in June 2007
We stayed at Ben and Judy's in 2004 and loved it. So when we returned in 2007 we expected great things and got them. As before, the home was neat and well-cared for. We like the 2 level living, the closeness to the beach and its proximity to key Duck locations.
The pool is always a hit with the kids, and the beach -- well no more needs to be said. The hot tub is always enjoyed, even during a minimal hurricane that hit near us in 2004.
We liked the choice of movies that the owners left behind for us and the fact we hear from them at Christmas time. Least-liked? Having to leave...
