Fredericksburg, VAA Lovely Home In Sanderling
Left on 03/28/2013 for a stay in August 2012
This was our second time staying at a home in Sanderling. We love the area and the Charchan was a wonderful place to stay for the week. Resort Realty had outstanding service and took care of any issues that arose in a very timely manner. The house is well taken care of and has many charming touches within the decorations. We were hoping for a screened in porch when we rented the Charchan but the screens are no longer there. We loved the private walkway with benches. I used that are to take photos of wildlife every morning.
The only thing we wished was different about the home was the notes and personal photos around the home. The photo album was very nice too look through, but the family photos on the walls and the specific notes about how to use certain items made us feel a little less comfortable than the house we stayed in last year.

Pittsburgh, PennsylvaniaPerfect Beach House
Left on 08/18/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Charchan is the perfect ocean-front house for a mid-size group. The private beach access was fantastic and you couldn't beat the dune deck. The fully enclosed outdoor shower was great because you could easily rinse off before going inside - if you didn't want to fully rinse, just use the foot rinse or the hose before the steps. The size of the rooms was great and the number of bathrooms was perfect for our group. If I could add a half bath on the top floor, I would, but who doesn't like walking down the spiral staircase! The only thing that differed from the pictures was that the "screened porch" no longer had screens - it was just open air windows. We would definitely stay again and would love to buy this place! The location is perfect: 10 to 15 minute drive to the grocery store up north, 3-5 minute drive to the village of Duck to the south. The street it is on is very quiet and we actually met a couple very friendly neighbors who own places nearby. They said this street doesn't have many rentals, but mostly people who don't rent their houses out. We had the whole beach in front of the house to ourselves - it's great that there are other people on the beach without it being crowded. Entry into the house was easy for the whole group because there weren't keys to share, we just had to remember a code. Check-in was easy - in fact, our house was ready and thoroughly cleaned a few hours before we expected it to be (I don't know how common this is, though). The furniture in the main room was a little dated, but whooo cares when you're ocean-front with amazing views and wake up watching dolphins in the ocean a few times every week. If only we were still there...

VANoteworthy & Great Location
Left on 07/28/2011 for a stay in July 2011
Have been going to Sanderling on and off for the last 16 years. It's our favorite beach on the outer banks and the location of the house couldn't be better. Nothing can beat getting up in the morning and taking a short walk up the deck to a virtually private beach...which, incidently, is where we left our chairs. The downside to the house is nagging by proxy through notes posted throughout the house - don't move the furniture, don't track in sand, don't go in the water until an hour after eating (ok that one I made up). It was as if we were visiting an old aunt who had plastic slipcovers on the couch because the kids might spill a drink. Despite the nagging we managed to have fun by violating rules - put the dishes where the glasses were supposed to go - and by enjoying the wonderful view of the ocean.

Lyndhurst, VAMemorable week at the beach
Left on 11/17/2010 for a stay in November 2010
Booking the reservation was quick and easy. We were able to check in and check out effectively.
The home was great. Clean, nice open floor plan with an amazing view. Just what we expected.
The location was great. Loved that we had our own private beach area to enjoy.
We loved the ocean view and being right on the beach the most. We did not like all of the "labled notes" everywhere about what "not" to do.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The house is lovely and truly on the beach. It was nicely equipped with everything we needed including chairs, boogie boards and plenty of amenities in the house. An umbrella would be my only suggestion.

mechanicsburg, pafabulous week at the beach
Left on 07/01/2010 for a stay in June 2010
Our family had a great week at the beach staying at Charchan. You can't beat being directly on the ocean with terrific views from the living/dining/kitchen of the water. Weather was wonderful, water warm and every day we spent on the beach. Didn't travel far from Charchan...cooked in with dinners on the screened in porch. It's a great place for little children ...no access to beach from the upper deck. We thoroughly enjoyed the spacious house with its four bedrooms, perfect for our 7 adults and 3 little ones. An extra was the use of the pool at Sanderling. House is equipped with all the amenities and furnished comfortably. The week flew by!

Left on 06/14/2010 for a stay in June 2009
This is a great house for a midsize family that wants a great ocean view and a quiet setting. Most of the beach access is for the renters/owners, so the beach was not at all crowded (although we didn't go during peak times). Views from the house are better than the pictures with a ton of windows in the upstairs level. Comfortable accomodations, some really nice touches/ the little things made it feel like a beach house. Nice community, access to pool and tennis courts a plus.

The ocean front location is great. Dune deck is wonderful. Spiral staircase is not good, a hazard especially when carrying anything of size or weight up or down, or having any difficulty with steps. AC and other appliances worked fine. Cleaning was ok, although house not ready at 4 PM as promised. Linens not delivered as expected day of arrival, but received next morning.
