The house was well equipped (a sharp knife would have been wonderful). A great set up for multiple families. I wouldn't recommend it for small children. The spiral staircase is an accident waiting to happen. The pool area was not maintained very well. Lots of weeds that needed pulled. We had some trouble with the pool filter, but they finally got it resolved. The location is great. Lots of ocean views. I took a nasty fall on the walkway to the beach. The steps were not marked. It involved an ambulance ride and stitches. We complained, so hopefully the situation has been resolved
Great Vacation House

It's a fantastic place to spend a family vacation. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The only complaint I would have though is that the STBs for the televisions and the remotes did not work for the t.v.s. Fortunately for us we brought a blue ray player so we were fine. There was lots to do for everyone even though it was November. The hot tub was a big hit even with some of the jets not working. Thanks for making it ready for us! I would definitely consider renting it again. :)

We loved the layout, it really lends it self to lots of couples. Also, the movie theater was great for watching movies and sports when it was raining. The house is close enough to the beach that walk only takes a minute and you can always run back for whatever you forget.
nice home with a few blips

House was great--but had some issues like leaking roof into the theater room. Theater room projector bulb gave out on Wed--had no theater room for 3 out of our 7 days. Also internet/computer did not work in the house. Ceiling fans needed some dusting. Numerous broken chairs around decks/pool, and 2 beds with broken legs.
In theory, if all things were in working order, this would be a FANTASTIC house! We had a great time the home had great features!

This is our second stay. while the house design is fine for large groups and the theater, and pool are great the house is in need of some maintenance. We had several problems that seemed to be long neglected. Six of the TVs had very poor reception until repaired mid week. The theater projector bulb burned out the week before-not fixed until Wed. Grounds maintenance was non- existant until someone came to weed-wack mid week after our complaints. A knob was broken on the washer - we used pliers to turn it to do wash. And there had been a bad roof leak that was repaired mid week which I beleive resulted in the mildew smell in the top level master bedroom - my room. The odor did reduce as the week wore on but was still noticable. The main kitchen is too small for the size of the house but we managed OK. The location is hard to beat and the views are spectacular - one of the best on the island. Note we did not have these problems last year and since we got most of them fixed the next several tenants should be Ok. Despite these inconvieniences we had a terrific time. Even finished a 2000 piece fish puzzle.

We rented Burd's Nest to meet up as a family to attend a wedding and celebrate a birthday. The house was incredible! We had thirteen people from age six to seventy- and everyone had a wonderful time.
Even though it was early spring and still quite cool, the solar heated pool and hot tub let the children and teenagers get "the beach vibe." The house has loads of space and many separate living areas so everyone could have a conversation and not drive anyone crazy. The TWO kitchens were very well appointed with everything we could need. The furniture is comfortable and a little older- the decor is perfect for families- nothing to worry about breaking etc. The house overall has all the modern amenities but retains the "Old Beach charm" that appeals to us who grew up vacationing on the Outer Banks and North Carolina Beaches.
But the MEDIA ROOM! This house has a full fledged projection screen media room complete with cinema chairs that kept the teenage boys happy- which was a vacation in itself. The house is nestled in fairly natural dunes and an easy walk to the beach- with enough privacy from the beach and the houses around it. (Good footbal throwing space!) The numerous decks and patios make for incredible views and star gazing. I haven't seen so many stars in years!
The pool area sports a full kitchen, sink, fridge and grills and a full bath. For once there were enough bathrooms for everyone! I can just imagine coming back to have pool parties in the summer months. I cannot imagine EVER staying in another house on the Banks now that we have stayed in this one. Just one comment- neither Yahoo or Google gave correct directions from Norfolk Airport or Raliegh Durham. Do get a map! The streets don't connect the way the internet says they do!
But if you want to have the best vacation of your life (my parents were there the whole week and we all for three days) you MUST stay in this house!

My entire family was able to fit into this vacation home quite handily! We had separate areas for our family and at the same time were able to enjoy each others company all during the week.
The home is lovely, decorated quite tastefully and more than adequate for our needs. Loved the pool and poolside bar, had many parties there.
We were impressed with the space for parking and the fact that you allowed pets to share the time with us. The theatre room was quite a nice touch and provided entertainment when we weren't at the beach or pool.
Loved it, left a written note in the guest book for the owners, and would love to return again. However, family circumstances will probably preclude that from happening this year, maybe next year will work out!
The shopping and restaurants were close enough for comfort and far enough for a peaceful time away. The weather was great, but really warm!

Our extended family gathered here just before the recent renovations. We went back to peek though and were impressed! We love this place for its beautiful views out the living room of the ocean, the birds singing on the railing, and then at night we gather on the rooftop to watch the sunset on the sound!
A week is never enough!
I would recommend this house for sure. I can see how in the heat of the summer the new air condition theater room would be a great retreat.
