This was our second year staying at Sounds Great and it was once again, fabulous! Working with Southern Shores has been very easy and they are very accomodating. Our family has enjoyed our business dealings with them. The home is perfect for families that want to get away. There are enough bedrooms to accomodate families of many sizes. Each of the six bedrooms is like a personal suite. It is by far the perfect vacation home and has everything you could ask for. The location could not be more perfect. It is close to all stores, activities, etc.. Yet, it is secluded enough to make you feel like you are worlds away from life. We are already planning year #3 and look forward to making this a family tradition.

This home has been refurbished and looks great. The infinity pool overlooking the sound is perfect! We spent most of the week at the pool and tiki bar. All appliances were new and we had no problems at all for the second year in a row. Downtown duck is a great daily walk for meals and shopping.

The basic house, location and views are great. I love the pool and the layout of the home. This is the third year that I have stayed in this home and I have noticed a deterioration in the property in the second and third years. The carpet is very dirty and worn in places, the walls need to be painted, the pool furniture is dirty and rusty, the drains for the runoff from the infinity edge of the pool were gged with leaves, and the thatched roof on the tiki bar needs to be repaired. I am not certain that I will stay in this house next year due to these issues. Read more
New owners have done many upgrades for the 2010 season including replacing the tiki bar roof, painting many interior rooms, redecorating and refurnishing.
Could have been better!

Yes! The view is worth a million dollars, but the rest of house........
When we chose this house, we chose it for the outside amenities and we were extremely dissapointed. The tiki bar has an empty space where the BBQ used to be - we were left with an old dirty BBQ that only half worked and started a grease fire. There were only 4 old lead paint lounge chairs at the pool area and 3 old wood chairs on the third floor deck - we had 16 people staying here, we had to take turns sitting on the decks admiring the view. The ice maker in the refridgerator did not work, the hot tub was disgusting and the steps to the sound are useless, you have to climb under a tree at the bottom and walk on your hands and knees just to be down there.
By the middle of the week we had negotiated a new cheap grill and 12 plastic chairs from the owner, the hot tub was cleaned and the ice maker was fixed. We definitely had a good time in OBX, but for the money we paid we felt a little more class was due. Read more

Beautiful home, with the best sunsets in OBX. Convenient, walking distance to shopping, restaurants, beach, etc. It has it all, don't need to leave!!! The pool is wonderful for small children and adults.

This was the first time our family actually stayed in the Duck area and view of the Sound was breathtaking. Great location to walk to the shops in Duck or the concerts in the park. The pool was fabulous and the kids loved it. The various depths were great for kids, because they could walk around in the water in most of the pool. Very nice bedrooms. The only thing we noticed that could use an upgrade was the carpeting, which was a bit worn, but that certainly didn't take away from the experience. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

This house was nice and big. There were 4 couples and it was nice to each have our own bathroom. The upstairs common area was huge and comfortable. We had enough room to play the Wii. The house was clean and overall in good shape. My main complaint about the house is that the ice maker didn't work despite me calling ahead of time due to an online review. The maintenance people stated it was a chronic problem with this house. The large TV in the common area is on its last leg, it went off and on multiple times and the picture was difficult to see.
We are used to having a big refridgerator in the lower part of the house by the pool table and this house didn't have that and it was a little inconvenient. The pool was a little too small for my family. It has a deck that you can put chairs in which is nice but takes up too much of the pool. I definitely would recommend Southern Shores Realty, they were easy to work with.

Very beautiful home with such a great view
the sad part is the owner and real estate company
have not taken care of it....
ie home sleeps 12 and has only 3 lounge chairs and 3 outdoor
chairs.great tiki bar and no outdoor bar stools...both main couches
have broken springs...the ice machine does not work...carpet chewed
up by dogs and not fixed...kitchen very poorly stocked...tvs very
small...cables everywhere and a nightmare to figure out...5 different
remotes...light bulbs out...etc
bottom line beautiful home but could be so much more if they cared
about their guest

This home has a great view and was still in good condition. At one time this home was awesome. The only real complaints were not enough outside seating, and the furniture(sofas) were downright garbage. Their was only 6 of us, had their been more seating in the living area would have been impossible. Views were great, hot tub was nice, kitchen great. Beds firm but comfortable
We just spent a week in this beautiful home.
This is our second stay. Everything you need is already there, grill, bedding, chairs poolside. The view is breathtaking any time of day. We bring our dogs, and the sound is the perfect place for them to play.
This home is large enough for a large family, yet cozy and comfortable.

The house was in a fantastic spot, right in the middle of Duck. Easy to walk to the local shops and restaurants. Good view of the sound, but not great - it's partially blocked by trees. The stairs leading down to the Sound were overgrown with branches and debris. The interior was nice, but the kitchen lacked the appropriate pots & pans necessary to cook for a large group. No garbage disposal made clean up a pain.

wonderful home with great view....inside home was beautiful...only thing I would suggest is maybe more great room sitting...the 2 love seats and chair was really not enough for my whole family...and maybe chairs in the game room....other than that it was great! thanks, Patricia and John Evans and family!

The home itself and the location is beautiful. The sunsets were fantastic and the dock for fishing was a nice convenience. However, the home could have been maintained better. The icemaker did not work most of the week. The overflow pool stopped working right after we arrived. We learned the jacuzzi was leaking and so the pump had to be turned off, which caused the pool to loose water and then we were asked to put the hose in each day to refill - which caused the pool to get colder. The heater, which we paid for, did not work properly so the pool was cold. Also, the gas grill that was to be poolside behind the cabana bar also did not work. We were reimbursed the the fee to heat the pool, but in October it would have been nice to have what we expected to have. Apparently the leaking jacuzzi was not a new issue. We have stayed in many OBX homes for years. While it is a beautiful home, I cannot say that I would recommend staying there unless you are assured that the maintenance issues are truly fixed.

We first rented this property July 2007. We had such a great time, we decided to rent the same property again in July 2008. We were very disappointed to say the least. The property was not up to standards. It was dirty when we arrived and had already been cleaned according to the card left by the maids. They had to come back out and get some kind of gooey stuff off the pool bar. There was trash left behind the pool bar and a pair of childrens underwear left in the outdoor shower. The blinds in the master bedroom (3rd floor) were so dusty it was disgusting.
The year before the ice machine did not work in the refrigerator in the kitchen. No change on the next year on that. So you spend alot of money on ice. The pool must have broke during the year so they had it rigged up and one day the pool completely emptied on it's own over night. So one day with not pool. We loved the pool bar the year before, the men would cook behind there. 2008, the grill behind the pool bar did not work, so they had a 100.00 grill sitting there on the grass. Not the same feeling. It's ashame, really pretty views and nice house, just not kept up.

We rented this soundfront home Jan 2007 while my husband was home from Iraq for a two week R&R. The house and furnishing were wonderful, and the views were breathtaking! It was a huge plus being able to take our dog on the trip, and the location was great, within walking distance to several shops. We will definitely rent this property again!
Ths is the second year renting. First year was flawless. Second year, looks to have taken a beating by renters. Issues with pool all week. One day woke up and water was GONE from pool. No idea where it went. The house is beautiful. It was a shame how in one year how it things got so worn.(ex-top of outside bar)

We found this home in the Southern Shores rental book and checked it out on line. It looked just beautiful so we rented it during prime time and paid a premium. I have to say we were pretty disappointed. The house has a lot of potential and some great features but when we arrive, the house was quite dirty and it had fleas. One reason we stayed in this house was because they took pets but they obviously don't treat the home for fleas. My 11 year old dog had never had fleas in her life until we stayed at this house. And when I found a flea on my 11 month old baby, all hope was lost. The kitchen was also lacking some basic furnishings like a mixer and adequate bake/cookware to make a nice dinner. Like I said, there were some nice features - great architecture, very nicely decorated. But the fact that it was dirty and infested with fleas really put a damper on our stay. We will not be staying at this home again. If the owners take steps to address these issues, it could be a great place to stay.
