Great place to stay with family and pets. We love to vacation with our dog and Duck offers the pet friendly beaches we all love. This property offers what we enjoy - steps from the beach, decks with a view, convenient location to Duck village. This place doesn't have all of the high-end amenities, but we spend most of our time out of doors anyway and the location is superb! We've been staying at this home for a number of years - it needs some updating, but we'll be back anyway.

We loved our trip to Duck and wouldn't hesitate to book the same cottage again. While the furniture was dated the view made up for it and seeing as we had good weather little time was spent indoors. The welcome basket was very nice and the supplies were good, everything you could need.
The most negative thing were noisy neighbors to the left partying in the small hours and using very bad language, looking back I should have complained to you but being on vacation complaints aren't on the agenda.Thankyou for a great family vacation.
This home is a beautiful oceanfront home that needs upgrading.

The design of the house is very good. The location is wonderful. It is in the heart of Duck and very close to restaurants and great shopping areas. What we liked best about this home: Ceiling to floor windows across the whole front of the family room, which provides beautiful ocean views, Sun room with small, flat TV and comfortable sectional sofa, Tall deck chairs 4, New oven, Top quality washer and dryer and coffee machine.
What needs improvement: In general, the home owners are not putting the time and money into this beautiful home to keep it up. Sofa and chair cushions in family room need replacement. Tv & DVD need updating, bedspreads need replacing, bathroom rugs need replacing, wicker shelf in master bathroom needs to be replaced with a solid shelf or cabinet, kitchen knife set needs sharpening or replacing, cabinets in kitchen don't close, bathroom toilet off kitchen has trouble flushing, rugs need steam cleaning, would be nice to have better Tv's in bedrooms. We have stayed in this home two years, because we love the view. Hopefully, some of these changes will be made so we can return in 2014.

We like the automatic check-in with the combo lock
It was just the two of us so the house was plent big, nice layout well appointed with everything we needed and then some. Loved the small reading room with books and games.
Great ocean views, we walked the beach 5-6 times a day and enjoyed the ocean sounds at night. We were thrilled we could bring our dogs, what we liked best pet friendly and the comfortable living room. The mattress in the Master Bedroom was very comfortable as well. The price was just right, we wanted a nice house ocean front and did not need a HUGE overpriced place. We would be happy to rent again. Having nice bikes to ride into town was also a plus.
Dislikes are harder to find, smallish TV I suppose but it was fine.

This is by far the best Outer Banks vacation home in which we have stayed over the many years we have been vacationing on the Outer Banks. We come down twice a year and have stayed in many properties from South Nags Head to Duck. While we have been return guests at a number of those homes, we have also chosen to move on to other properties. This is how we found Shangri-La. We had grown a bit dissatisfied with the previous property (poorly equipped kitchen, living room furniture not very comfortable, no decks off the bedrooms, no views from the communal spaces). Shangri-La took care of all of those issues for us. The kitchen was very well equipped (one in the party is a professional chef and he was impressed). The view from the living areas is great and the seating is comfortable. We like that we can walk into Duck. A very nice property and we will be back in 2010.

We stayed in the Shangri-La in Duck, NC. We had ocean front. The view from inside was the ocean. No matter where you sat you had the ocean in view. I expected to see a pirate ship any moment. Grandkids liked that. The house was beautiful, well equipped. The only drawback were the steps. But, it was good exercise. Could not get over the anemities, dirt bikes, boogie boards, beach supplies, etc. We were able to bring our dogs, which was a plus. The only thing is they need to provide two more gates for the decks. All in all, we had a fantastic time. Scarborough Fair was a delight. Resturants, close by, and the food was good. We definitely would come back to this rental. Hannah

We had a wonderful family vacation at Shangri-la. The house offered more than we expected. We were pleasantly surprised with all the perks: the games, books and beach equipment. Plus the view was picture perfect. We cannot imagine anything but oceanfront for our next vacation.
Our first OBX family experience was wonderful and we are all looking forward to a return trip in 2010.

The location and house were great. The only issue was the giant Cottonmouth snake at the base of the side staircase, just outside of the garage door. We couldn't go near that area all week, had to avoid using those stairs, and couldn't go near the bar-b-que. We had two year old twins and my mother, a senior, so it was cause for concern for all of us.
I love the Outer Banks and have been down there 4 times, but I don't think my wife, who was shaken by her close encounter, wants to go back.
