Description from the manager
Dunbeath is a pretty little village, an old crofting/ fishing community, birthplace of the renowned Scottish writer Neil Gunn, and has a fascinating history. The local Heritage Centre has a vast amount of archaeological and historic interest. Close to the A9, this is a perfect choice for touring with day trips possible to John O’ Groats and the Orkney Isles, or to the rugged northwest coast. There is a choice of golf courses within easy reach or you can enjoy bird watching, tennis, pony trekking, hill walking and climbing. Follow the River Helmsdale inland to visit the site of Scotland’s own gold rush when prospectors descended on...Read more

RugbyGranny's Cottage, quaint location and so lovingly kept!
Left on 11/15/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We were pleasantly surprised with Granny's Cottage. The pictures do not do this lovingly kept cottage justice! There is everything you need here and it's spotlessly clean. Would definitely recommend and it's a great location for exploring Caithness and the Highlands.

Left on 11/03/2012 for a stay in September 2012
As above. We loved Dunbeath and this cottage was the perfect location from which to explore the delightful small harbour and surrounding areas. The small shop a few doors along from the cottage has basic supplies and is also an off licence. This means you can settle in and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the village life at your leisure. The kitchen is very well equipped and more shopping options are available in nearby Wick or Thurso.

The owners live next door but two and were friendly and helpul. The cottage was of a good size and pleasantly furnished.Dunbeath is a lovely little village , handy for touring the noth eastern highlands, has a handy little Spar.
Lovely peaceful place and we had a nice stay but the cottage does have twomajor drawbacks:
1.The central heating system was not working and the electric radiators/fires in the rooms were not ideal because the Highlands tend to be cold and they are expensive.Get the central heating working and include the heating cost upfront in an increased rental price.
2.The shower water pressure was almost non existent.Get an electric shower and it will transform the place.
Sorry to be seen to be moaning , we did enjoy our stay but it did detract slightly. -

Left on 09/19/2011 for a stay in August 2011
the accommodation was very clean and we were welcomed by the agents who were extremely kind and helpful.
the house had everything we needed but the only setback was you had to pay for the
electricity used which was a bit scary but at the end of the week we only used 5pounds!
the area was beautiful and so many interesting places to see! you do need to plan where to go as time is precious and we only had a week! we will definitely be back tothe same place it was wonderful
only we are saving to stay for a fortnight!

Cottage very comfortable. Unfortunately weather not so good. Need warm clothes in cottage if cold. Needs a mirror in double bedroom. Would recommend day trip to Orkney from John O'Groats. Dunbeath good centre for touring North Scotland.
