Margate-by-the-Sea is right on the harbourside of the Otago Peninsula and directly opposite beautiful Quarantine Island with its native bushwalks. Just 20 minutes drive from Dunedin City and 20 minutes drive to the Albatross Colony, Penguin colonies and wild white-sand beaches of the Peninisula. We have offstreet parking plus bus-stop right on the corner. There are numerous bush & hill walks - step outside the door, walk up a short valley and climb Harbour Cone to experience a magnificent 360 degree panorama of harbour, coastline and ocean. And 10 minutes drive to the stunning Hoopers Inlet to experience wonderful wading & flying birdlife - various gulls, oyster catchers, pied stilts, terns, spur winged plovers, banded dotterels, black swans, white-faced herons, various shags & ducks, pukekos, native hawks and many more.
