What Past Guests Are Saying

Excellent, we will be back.
The cottage was beautiful and well kept, with everything you could possibly need. The living room was very comfortable with big settee and big cushions (felt like being at home). the main bedroom upstairs was amazing huge very comfortable bed and lots of space. jim and Jane who own the cottage are lovely people who are always on hand if you need anything, on arrival at the cottage Jane had left us some home made soda bread (delicious) and some fresh eggs from their own chickens. would definitely recommended ardogeena cottage, our only regret is that we didn't stay longer.
Response from Jane Green - 05/12/2013
Thank you both for the great review and being such wonderful guests..
Hopefully we shall see you again very soon!

Fabulous home from home
Excellent accommodation in a first class location with a very comfortable, enormous bed that gave us a good nights sleep. The village [just a short walk away] has a choice of places to eat which catered for all needs. There is also a good bar at Kilcrohan [Eileen's Bar] and a lovely gallery at ahakista with good food and interesting gardens [Heron Gallery]. We loved Hacketts bar in Schull for food and atmosphere and Skibereen farmers market on Saturday for spotting the rich and famous!
The location is perfect for exploring the Mizen, Sheep's Head & Beara peninsulas all with well marked walking routes.
Jim and Jane left us a lovely welcome pack including freshly made soda bread and eggs from their hens. They were excellent hosts, being available if needed.
This was our second visit and hopefully there will be a third.
Response from Jane Green - 05/12/2013
Lovely to see you both again! Thanks for the great review and for being such wonderful guests.
See you again soon. Jane
Just what we were looking for a perfect holiday
Jane and Jim are hosts to our liking, always there when needed, or just for a nice chat, and the homemade bread and eggs from their own hens as a welcome gift make you feel just that- welcome.
The cottage is very spacious and has everything you might need for cooking, washing and entertainment. Very comfortable furniture.
A very nice touch was the vast amount of information and even survey maps of the area. As we forgot our travelguide and the book with walking tours this was so helpfull.
The location of the cottage is very beautiful and quiet. We enjoyed sitting at the pond and watch the sun go down.
The next village is Durrus, just a few minute walk from the cottage, with four pubs and a restaurant just in the village center.
Durrus is a very good starting point for exploring Sheepshead and Beara Peninsula.
What we liked best was the whole package of a very nice and quiet holiday home in a beautiful surrounding, within walking distance of pubs and shopping, and only short drives take you to the most beautiful places like Mizen Head or Dursey Island.
What we did not like was leaving so soon.
Response from Jane Green - 11/05/2012
Thank you both for the wonderful review! You were wonderful guests and we really do hope that we shall see you again, very soon.

Fine Base for W Cork Explores
The cottage is clean, well equipped and spacious for a couple or a small family or for two couples who are used to traveling together. The location is rural but not isolated and makes a fine base for walking and other outdoor explorations. The nearby village (< 1 km) has basic services + 4 pubs. A wider range of services and food offerings are available in Bantry, about 10 km away. Not for those seeking "entertainment". The attraction here is the natural setting and the opportunities for exploration which that setting affords.

Thanks for your review, Dan, and for the great comments you wrote in the Vusitors' Book.
Enjoy the rest of yor holiday.
Great stay in West Cork
We had a nice and great week at ardogeena Cottage. Many thanks to Jane and Jim.
The cottage is nice decorated and we appreciate very much the cleanliness. The cottage is located in quiet surrounding. Large garden.
Our dogs enjoyed too. Eggs from thier hens, butter, bread and milk upon arrival is a real nice attention of owners.
Hoping to come back soon.
Response from Jane Green - 10/04/2012
Thank you so much for your great review. You were the ideal guests and we very much hope to see you all again soon!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage.
We were glad that we chose the ardogenna Cottage for our 1st trip to Ireland. It had all the comforts that you would expect from a home away from home. Both Jane and Jim were very friendly and helpful, but also afforded us privacy. The location was great for touring the southern region of the country. Jane and Jim keep the cottage in immaculate condition and keep it stocked with all the staples necessary. It is also appreciated that Jane provides a welcoming gift of fresh eggs, milk, homemade bread and butter. We are hoping to return in the very near future.
Response from Jane Green - 09/20/2012
Thank you Rose & Joe for your wonderful review. You and your two boys were ideal guests and we can't wait for your return!

Ideal base for touring West Cork
A warm welcome from Jane as we arrived at the cottage was the ideal start to our stay in West Cork. The cottage is extremely comfortable. It is well furnished and equipped with everything we could possibly need.
Response from Jane Green - 06/18/2012
Thank you for taking time to write the review.i was a little surprised that we only achieved 4 stars for comfort as your review stated 'extremely comfortable' . I do hope that you will give us a second chance to up our game! Jane
Home from home in beautiful west cork
We stayed in ardoggena Cottage for the 2nd time in May. This is an exceptional holiday home with all the comforts you could hope for in a holiday home. The kitchen is very well equipped with full cooker, washing machine, microwave, coffeemaker etc. You will find a welcome pack of free range eggs, home made bread, milk and other essentials. The living area is very big with comfortable leather sofas, flat screen T.V., DVD, radio and a wood burning stove. There is one large bedroom well furnished with kingsize bed. Free wifi is available to stay in touch also telephone as mobile reception is weak.
It is less than 1km from village of Durrus so you can walk to pubs and restaurant in about 10minutes, bring hi-viz jacket for walking on narrow road at night. You will find that you are staying in a very peaceful rural area. The owners live in house nearby and are extremely helpful but will not bother you unless you approach them - perfect hosts.
We picked the area for hill walking and there are fantastic loop walks on the Sheeps Head Way. All the loops are well signposted and are not too difficult with magnificent scenery over Bantry Bay and Dunmanus Bay. I would recommend a visit to arundels pub in ahakista for an drink after a good days walking.
This is the best holiday home that we have stayed in and we will go back again.
Response from Jane Green - 06/16/2012
Thanks so much for the great review! We hope to see you both again some time soon. Jane & Jim
The cottage is really lovely. Bed is so comfy and Jane's home-made brown bread and lovely fresh eggs were delicious! Beautiful beaches nearby and lots of places to visit nearby
Response from Jane Green - 06/03/2012
Thanks for the review, Yvonne. We were so sorry that you felt we were only worth 4 stars for value and location.
I do hope that you shall all come back at some stage. Do remember that there is a 10% reduction next time!

An excellent base to explore southern Ireland from.
We greatly enjoyed our stay in ardogeena Cottage. It was a nice treat to have the heater on and basic amenities waiting for us when we arrived late the first night. The cottage was spacious, comfortable, and modern. For the elderly or people with small children - the sleeping arrangements are all upstairs and the staircase is quite steep. Jim and Jane gave us privacy as we came and went, but were accessible when we had any questions. They are very generous people. The area has so much to offer for sightseeing, that we weren't able to see it all and will definitely be going back.
Response from Jane Green - 01/27/2012
Thank you, Kate and Jim, for the lovely review. You were superb guests and we look forward to seeing you both again! Jane
Comfortable cottage in picturesque location
We had everything that we could possibly need and my children (9 and 8yrs) loved the swings/play equipment and looking after the hens. Basket of home made bread and eggs very much welcome after a long journey. Cottage is within walking distance of village, lots of beautiful scenery to explore and a lovely garden to relax in after a hectic days activities.
Response from Jane Green - 09/15/2011
Thanks a million, Helen.
Hopefully we shall see you all again, soon?
we stayed here for 1 week with our 2 kids and had a lovely time. The cottage is very modern, well equiped, internet and sattelite is available and also basic groceries are in the cottage (refill them after use :) ).
absolutely a top location for a fair price
Response from Jane Green - 09/03/2011
Thanks, Martin. Hopefully we shall see you all again soon.
If you are looking for a peacful and relaxing holiday, go there.
The welcome by Jane and Jim is very warm and the cottage is absolutely comfortable and offers everything. If the weather is bad or you do not want to get out to see all the beautiful spots nearby, you can stay at home as the cottage is well equiped, cosy and clean. You will find TV, DVD, Stereo, games, books, magazines and maps for use, the furnitures are perfect, kitchen is well equiped.
We enjoyed our stay very much and will certainly be back there again.

Holiday at its best
Back again! We spent our vacation for the second time in ardogeena. Ardogeena offers the ideal location for both: relaxing in the cottage and discover the beauty of West Cork.
Jim and Jane have created an ideal holiday destination for people all stressed out. They are wonderful hosts and welcome guests like friends. We had a fantastic time in this very comfortable and lovingly furnished house. It's nice to sit in the garden, overlooking the pond, the lilies and the little blue dragonflies. The landscape of this area is wonderful, especially the view from the Healy Pass (Beara Peninsula) on the Glenmore Lake. Our highlight was the narrow road from ardgroom to Gortgariff - all the time up and down! We look forward to returning to this beautiful part of the world and our friendly hosts one day.
Response from Jane Green - 08/01/2011
Thank you Martina and Christian both for the glowing review and for being the ideal guests.
Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
Ardogeena Cottage,Durrus - A gem in West Cork
Ardogeena Cottage is a gem hidden away in Durrus, West Cork. Jane and Jim are wonderful hosts - always available but not imposing on their visitors. The cottage is spotless, fully stocked with everything you could require and so comfortable. There is a huge garden with a lily pond which is fully available to visitors along with an enclosed private patio. Dogs are made most welcome and my dog thoroughly enjoyed his stay and enjoyed the company of the Green's own very friendly dogs. It was a huge treat to find a homebaked soda bread and eggs from the family hens on arrival providing a very welcome supper after a long drive. Durrus is a perfect base from which to see West Cork. It is the gateway to the Sheep's Head Peninsula and within easy reach of Schull, Skibbereen, Bantry and a host of other towns and villages. I will definitely be returning to ardogeena.
Response from Jane Green - 07/05/2011

a "home from home"
We found this lovely cottage after searching specifically for WiFi enabled accommodation in this corner of Ireland. It is in a lovely peaceful relaxing location. The cottage is huge for 2 people with a vast bedroom and a large kitchen/dining/sitting room. Everything you might have at home was available including tv, dvd, video, cd player, wifi and a well equipped kitchen including fresh eggs from Jane's hens and soda bread baked by Jane. We even managed to get a signal on our (3 network) phones and I set up Skype on my laptop whilst I was there so we could keep in touch with home.
The weather was glorious on our first day and we had a drive around the remote single track roads of the beautiful Sheep's Head peninsula which surprisingly had a lovely little cafe at the far end. We visited before Easter and so some attractions were not open yet but we found some great restaurants in Kenmare (Davitt's Bar) and Skibereen (Le Voyage) particularly. I had previously visited this area many years ago when we had hired a horse drawn caravan (hard work!) for a week and travelled from Clonakility, to Skibereen and Rosscarberry. These places are closer to the cottage than the "Ring of Kerry" but just as picturesque. The lanes around Durrus are so quiet that on a Sunday afternoon the locals enjoy an organised game of "road bowling". In summary we had a very relaxing week in a lovely cottage in a peaceful, scenic area of Ireland.
Response from Jane Green - 04/08/2011
Thanks for the great review, Mark. Hopefully we shall see you both back at Ardogeena Cottage in the not too distant future. Don't forget that there will be a 10% reduction on your next visit!
We had a wonderful stay here
My wife already reviewed on a partner side of trip advisor. I just wanted to include the area in my review. First of all Jane and Jim are perfect hosts. The cottage includes every neccessity for a self catering stay. It is self spoken that you replenish the stocks at the end of the stay, when you used anything of it. My wife and me had a perfect time. We shared the cooking and cleaning of the kitchen etc. Although we hate to sleep under one blanket, we slept wonderful and did not have any problems with one bed sheet as it would have been big enough for three people. Even the couch in the living room were very cosy at the evenings. The Cottage itself is absolutely perfectly displayed on the pictures. We can even say that it looks better and is even more spacious than you can imagine on behalf of the pictures.
Adding to this wonderful cottage was the absolutely perfect weather that we had during our stay and the wonderful area. At a wonderful sunny day we recommend to stay at Barley Cove (wonderful sand beach). When you had enough sun for the day you should drive to Crookhaven and enjoy a crab sandwich at O'Sullivan with a pint of Murphy's. It is the perfect ending of a day. This was one of those wonderful hints from our hosts Jane and Jim. We had our wedding day during our stay and enjoyed a very good dinner at O'Connors Seafood Restaurant. We just made the mistake to have a steak in a fish restaurant, which was not a good decision, but after my complain they made a new steak and everything was OK. But the fish is really perfect at this place. Just take your time on the roads in the area as they are curvy and at some points very narrow and tricky. Especially for those who are used to driving on the right side of the road. But thankfully at many tourist sites there are signs which tell you to drive on the left side of the roads. We recommend to enjoy the nature and the sea and to take a good breath of the amazing clean air. We had a perfect time and hope that you will have the same. But if you stay at Jane and Jim's Cottage we have no doubt that you will have a great time.

Thank you so much with the wonderful review.
Hopefully we shall see you both again soon?

Lovely warm welcoming cottage and hosts
Ardogeena is the best cottage we've ever stayed in. Thanks to airport delays we arrived late on a cold November evening to find that Jane and Jim had started the wood pellet stove and turned on the electric blanket meaning that the cottage was incredibly warm and welcoming. The welcome pack with eggs, milk, soda bread and butter was great and very much appreciated.
The cottage is very clean and well decorated with high quality fittings. The living room / kitchen is very spacious and the huge comfortable bed is only dwarfed by the size of the bedroom! We don't think anyone would be disappointed.
Location is lovely, close to the sea and, although close to the owners' house, the position of the cottage gives a good deal of privacy. Durrus is a nice village and only about about 15 minutes walk from the cottage.
Jane and Jim seem to have thought of every possible eventuality, even bags under the sink (for your shopping) and a rechargable torch by the door (for late night wandering). They are very concerned that visitors are comfortable and enjoy their stay.
We would recommend this cottage to anyone, it is great value and very warm so great for an out of season break as well as a summer holiday. We will certainly return if we are ever back in Cork.
Response from Jane Green - 12/04/2010
Thanks Nick and Joanna for such a wonderful review. You can return any time!
luxurious comfort and easy quiet
This self-catering cottage was easy to book, check into, check out of, and enjoy immensely. The Greens were gracious hosts, responsive to any needs you might have, courteous and friendly and as familiar or remote as you preferred them to be on any given day. The village of Durrus is a 12-15 minute walk away for the evenings when you want to visit the pubs but not drive. The village has a grocery with a surprisingly large supply of local products and produce. The cottage kitchen is sizable and amply furnished with everything needed to prepare meals and snacks. Electronic equipment galore but a beautiful cottage even if, like us, you use none of it. The pellet stove is particularly charming and enjoyable. We loved coming "home" to it at the end of each day, and were quite sad to leave at the end of our week. The astonishing thing about the cottage is how quiet it is there and how isolated you can feel if you choose to do so. This location gives you easy access to Sheep's Head, the Mizen, and coastal towns such as Skull and Skibbereen. The Beara peninsula is an enjoyable day trip away. The cottage is spacious, well provisioned, comfortable and inviting. The hosts are gracious, accommodating, friendly and courteous. A perfect combination. The grill area is situated on a pond. A frog and a buddha stare across at each other. Each serene and non-attached.

A wonderful vacation in an outstanding Cottage
We stayed in the ardogeena Cottage from the 12th to the 26th June 2010 and found it outstanding. The Cottage is furnished lovingly and thought out into every detail. We immediatley felt at home as the Cottage is very spacious and comfy and provides you with everything you need and more. There is no need to bring anything except yourself and some clothing. On cold evenings we really loved the oven although most of the time we had wonderful weather.
Upon our arrival we received a warm welcome by our hosts Jane and Jim Green and were surprised by Jane with homemade Sodabread and eggs from their own hens as a welcome present. Jane and Jim were always there when needed and gave us very good recommendations of places to visit but we always had our privacy.
The Cottage is a very good place for exploring the Southwest of Irland
and there many beautiful scenerys and places to visit within short distances.
We could highly recommend this cottage and we will definitely come back soon.
Response from Jane Green - 12/19/2010
Thank you so much for the wonderful review. Hopefully we shall see you both again in the not too distant future.
The owners are striving for perfection, and I would say they have achieved it.
The house is immaculate throughout, with every need thought of - including a loaf of home baked soda bread and butter on arrival!
They kindly let the kids play on the enormous climbing frame that they have constructed for their grandchildren, which they loved.
The area is stunning, with fabulous beaches (Barleycove in particular) and pretty towns and villages to explore. Crab sandwiches at Crookhaven is a must!
We will definitely be going back!
Response from Jane Green - 12/19/2010
Great to have you all to stay in Ardogeena Cottage. Hopefully you will all be back sometime soon!
Great place to stay
very welcoming family friendly cottage
had a wonderful stay at ardogeena Cottage, we all felt very welcome we have two children and they had a great time playing in the garden with milly and of course the dogs, we even had a night out with daisy babysitting, the children loved her, we cant wait to come back in the very near future!
Response from Jane Green - 12/19/2010
Looking forward to seeing you all again. Make it a longer stay, next visit.
Relaxing stay in a fully equipped Irish cottage
We felt a bit like at home in the cottage. It is well equipped with everything a self-caterer needs. And the bedroom is not only huge but also kind of romantic.
Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. And we also made use of the information folders - in special with the good maps from the Ordnance Survey ...
The cottage itself is close to the town Durrus and located near two peninsulas. Therefore it was a good starting point for our excursions by car. And the countryside has many sights to discover ...
Response from Jane Green - 12/19/2010
Thanks for your review. Hopefully you will choose to stay at Ardogeena Cottage again in the not too distant future.
