Sheep's Head Holiday Homes (formerly known as Sruth Mhuileann) Our attractive self catering holiday homes in Durrus have a pleasant little stream running at the edge of the development and are less than 100m from the village’s shops and pubs serving food. They are within easy reach of the scenic Mizen Head and Sheep’s Head Peninsula . Sheep’s Head in Bantry was awarded the title of European Destination of Excellence in 2009 for Tourism and Protected Areas . This is an award for destinations that have developed the tourism potential of their protected areas in a sustainable manner.

The port town of Bantry is less than 1...5 minutes drive from the holiday homes and boasts a number of craft shops, galleries, good restaurants and traditional pubs together with a seafront promenade overlooking Bantry Bay. There are regular boat trips from the harbour during the summer months which take visitors out to the bay’s three main islands – Bere Island, Whiddy Island and Garnish Island also known as Ilnacullin. This island is internationally renowned for its wide selection of plants and Italian Gardens . The waters surrounding the island are rich in wildlife and seals can frequently be seen from both the island and harbour. Boats also go from here to the lovely Sherkin Island which has three sandy beaches and bicycle hire on the island. West Cork is warmed by the Atlantic Gulf Stream and enjoys a unique climate being home to a wide variety of tropical plants and lush vegetation. The coast line is dotted with numerous coves and sandy beaches, the nearest of which to Durrus is the stunning Barley Cove situated between Goleen and Crookhaven. The sandy dunes of this beach have been designated a ‘ European Area of Special Conservation’. This together with the nearby Gallery Cove and Cockle Beach are ideal for swimming with wind surfing and paddle boats available from Ballydehob during the summer months.

This part of West Cork is increasingly known for the ‘Slow Food Movement’ – the promotion of organic produce. There are a number of farmers markets in the area and some excellent restaurants featuring local produce such as ‘The Good Things Café’ in Durrus itself which also has a cookery school.

This self catering accommodation in Durrus is a fantastic base from which to explore all that this very special part of Ireland has to offer being also within easy reach of The Ring of Kerry and Killarney in neighbouring Co. Kerry .

  I had to travel to the area for a funeral with 4 friends and being students we couldn't afford any of the hotels or guest houses in the Bantry area. After communicating with Nancy and explaining our situation she gave us a great rate and made the whole thing so simple for us. The site supervisor Colin was very facilitating with his time and really helped us out too. The house was lovely, very clean and the furniture was very modern. The kitchen had everything you could need and the complementary bottle of wine was nice. The bedrooms were great very comfortable and spacious. Overall great houses for families/friends.The one thing that was an issue for us was that there is no phone signal in that area, which obviously isn't the holiday home's fault but its something to note.. of course if you're going to get away from the world its perfect! The staff made a very difficult situation that much easier and I'm very appreciative of it. I would say i'd be back if it wasn't for the memories of the funeral
