The Old Red Farmhouse has been in the family for nearly 100 years. It sits on 120 private acres in a mountain valley on the side of Burke Mountain. This gently restored farmhouse offers the charm of generations past and yet all the conveniences we've come to expect, including WIFI. The three bedroom, single bath farmhouse sleeps 6 and is perfect for couples, families or smaller groups of mountain bikers or skiers. Our 1800's farmhouse is located on the side of Burke Mountain, home to never-crowded Burke Mountain Ski Area and Burke Mountain Academy, training ground for a number of US Ski Team stand-outs. The house sits on Pinkham Road, which loops along one side of the mountain and forms a leg of Kingdom Trails, a highly acclaimed mountain biking and cross country skiing venue. Burke Mountain, in association with Kingdom Trails, provides lift service for bikers wishing to ride a number of challenging downhill trails during the summer months. Miles of private trails and Kingdom trails provide excellent cross country skiing and snowshoeing, some right from the farmhouse.
At the base of the mountain, quaint East Burke Village provides access to sporting goods, gas and groceries, as well as some of the Northeast Kingdom's finest take-out, casual and fine dining. Beautiful lakes Willoughby and Crystal and Island Pond are within a 30 minute drive. For convenience, I-91 is only 10 miles away.
Our rental is located in the heart of what is known as the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, an area untouched by major growth or sprawl. The area retains all its natural beauty and has none of the heavy traffic, malls and industrial growth common to more populated areas. The northeast Kingdom is home to several beautiful, clean lakes, great for swimming, fishing or canoeing and kayaking. There are many great restaurants scattered about. Catamount Arts, Burke Mountain and other organizations make available a number of concerts, music festivals, art exhibits and sports exhibitions. Burke is home to the Burke Mountain Sled Dog Dash each January; and national ski races are held at the mountain. The Northeast Kingdom is well known for hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, mountain biking, outstanding fall foliage and maple syrup production.

We stayed twice in this house, 2011 and 2012, and are planning a visit in 2013.
The owners, Ken and Linda Leach are extremely friendly and attentive to ensure a comfortable stay.
The house is ideally suited for people who wish to get away from the city and discover the beauty of the northwest Kingdom. The view is extraordinary and the location is very quiet. However, it is close enough to East Burke to visit the local restaurants etc. It has everything one needs, it is equipped to be a home away from home.
We mountain bike on the Kingdom Trails network and can leave the house on our bicycles.
We have rented houses and apartments in Canada and Europe for vacations and we would be happy if they were always as good as this one.
I recommend this house for a group of up to 6 people whether they be three couples, as we are, or a family.
