A Home away From Home

I have had the opportunity to stay at 'Dancing Deer' twice over the past two years and am making plans to stay there again this October. I attend workshops that are held there on Orcas Island and can't wait to notify Susan and Charles that I'm putting together plans to attend another one. Susan is so accommodating and adds so much to the process of securing a place to stay when on Orcas Island. Dancing Deer is a spacious home that allows individuals to work together in the kitchen or spend 'quiet time' away from each other if they choose. Both times I was there, the Deer were all around the property and the wildlife was in full view to be photographed. I bought groceries there at the 'Island Market' in East Sound and prepared most meals on site. The kitchen has everything I require to create home cooked meals. The location is minutes from Moran State Park in one direction and if you go in the other direction, minutes from Rosario. The photos of the property are accurate in every detail. It's a pleasure to stay at 'Dancing Deer'. Thank You, Susan and Charles.

Outstanding Views & So Relaxing

My husband and I have only been here a few days and already it feels like home. The home is beautiful and has everything you need provided. I am very picky about rentals being cleaned well and I was so happy to see the place was immaculate. The beds are very comfortable and each room has individual climate control. Susan and Charles are great hosts who want to make sure your stay is memorable. The view from the kitchen, living room, upstairs bedroom, and both decks are outstanding. Very close to Moran State Park and Eastsound shops. We are so lucky that we don't have to leave for 8 more days. We will be back.

Spent nearly a week here with wife and family (two girls 17 and 12). It was a very relaxing and comfortable "home base" for us to explore Orcas. We loved the spaciousness and the views of the sound. Everything was in clean, working order and we were able to set a relaxing "summer pace" during our stay. Lots to do and explore in the area. From Moran Park, to Deer Harbor we experienced a little bit most every day and got a real feel for island life. It was just perfect for our needs.

The breathtaking views greeted us as we arrived at this gorgeous home overlooking the sea. A perfect holiday for our family of 6, we all felt like we had been in paradise for a week.
The house is so tastefully decorated and extremely clean, it felt just like home. The owners have prepared the house with renters in mind, the floor plan is superb allowing privacy for individuals if required, as well as great communal areas like the sitting room and upper deck (with that stunning view). We all had our different favourites, mine was sitting on the top deck having breakfast whilst the bald eagles soared above and the deer's frolicked below. Thanks to the owners for the special touches, the general instructions made the stay completely hassle free. My son and his girlfriend arrived 2 days after us so we treated them to the seaplane which lands just 15 minutes from the house, an experience they will never forget especially as my son sat up front with the pilot! As a family we like to experience different countries for our holidays but Dancing Deer has got us hooked, we will be booking again next year.

When my family was looking for a place to vacation, friends recommended that we rent a house called Dancing Deer on Orcas Island only minutes from Moran State Park. The photo on this page is the view from upper deck of the house. It's hard to describe how magnificent it is to sit on the deck with coffee and a book. We had a hard time leaving the house to go kayaking and hiking when it was just so wonderfully relaxing to just sit on the deck.
The house is spacious, well appointed and clean with beautiful paintings and photos. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and a separate master bath complete with jacuzzi and shower. My daughter and her friend stayed in the bedroom on the main floor that had a separate bathroom and shower. The main floor has a full size kitchen with every appliance for baking and cooking and is equipped with basic cooking supplies. The dishwasher was so quiet I had to check to make sure it was working and between the high tech oven and wonderful Weber grill, we had wonderful meals every day. Off the kitchen was a large dining room and living room with a flat screen TV and DVD player with a pellet burning wood stove for cold nights. On the lowest level of the house, there was another deck as well as another bedroom, mini-kitchen, and fireplace and laundry. The owners of the house have taken the time to leave all necessary explanations for connecting to the internet, operating the TV and DVD player and the pellet stove.
Within hours of arriving at Dancing Deer, we realized that we had found such a restful and peaceful paradise that even if we never ventured out of the house, we could have a perfectly fantastic vacation just sitting on the deck, drinking wine and reflecting on our good fortune of having found this perfect get-away

Beautiful house and views, clean and comfortably furnished. Downstairs area seperate enough to suit teens with adults upstairs. Drawback was all the (very) personal items belonging to owners in many drawers and cupboards. Felt like we were intruding in their house. Lots of signs ("keep out") and instructions, felt like a lot of rules. No deck furniture was out. Accessibility to Rosario not as easy as listing implies, owner said kids could use pool there, not so. Difficulty reaching property manager with questions (re tv & pellet stove)upon arrival.

We appreciate all guest reviews. We do have some kitchen cabinets and drawers labeled "Owner's Storage" and also reserve the upper shelves of 2 of the large closets and some drawer space for our personal belongings. There are no signs in this home that say "Keep Out". Fortunately the home has ample storage left for our guests both in the kitchen and bedroom closets. Typically we have a very positive response to our instructive signs. During the low season (these guests visited in early April 2011) we do keep our teak deck furniture covered, but in future will make sure deck furniture is easily accessible for our low season guests. Rosario Resort is a 10 minute walk or a 5 minute drive. The outdoor pool is available for guests from Memorial Day to Labor Day for a fee, as stated in our listing. The Spa at Rosario has an indoor pool and offers day passes year round. In the event the Manager cannot be reached, all guests are welcome to call us on our home or cell phones.

Dancing Deer was perfect for our 3 generation family vacation...ages 4 to 70. Adults loved the hiking, wine and cheese on the deck and kids enjoyed hiking and wildlife, especially feeding the alpacas at Krystal acres--worth a trip to San Juan Island. Would definitely recommend staying on Orcas Island near Moran State Park and East Sound. Owners are friendly and provide many extra amenities and guidance.

The accommodations at Dancing Deer made for a relaxing vacation and homey get away. The view from the spacious deck was amazing and in the morning we were able to view the grazing deer in the front yard. We relaxed and enjoyed evening bar-b-ques on the deck while watching the sun set with a glass of wine. I would recommend Dancing Deer and Orcas Island to anyone ready to get away from the hustle, bustle and fast paced life.
