Description from the owner
As far as we are concerned, Orcas Island is one of the most beautiful islands to visit in Washington State! The natural beauty here with the colors of the Madrona trees, the sparkle of the water and the abundant wildlife are absolutely spectacular and a pure joy to witness.
The house was custom built with much tender loving care by Sunray Kelly, an alternative northwest designer/builder using mostly natural materials and a low impact on the environment. It has many unique features like a sunken round tub, cathedral like windows and doors, birds-eye maple windows and a two story tower. There are 3 decks, a round living room with a futon...Read more

MAGICAL HOBBIT HOUSE.....Unique, Peaceful, Special
Eastsound, Washington

Additional Location Information
The house is in a neighborhood on the north shore with a view of the water and Mount Baker. It is a very quiet beautiful setting amongst the trees and yet only 4 miles from the main town of Eastsound, 10 min. by car. You are the only ones there, so it is very private. There is a community beach down the street to explore or sit on the cliffs above looking out on the water. The neighborhood is very quiet, please respect the community by driving the speed limit, no loud radios or partying--this would not be that type of place for that. Thank you.

Seattle, WashingtonDefinitely recommend!
Left on 01/06/2013 for a stay in January 2013
I just got back from a two night stay at the Hobbit House, and it's just as awesome as it looks in the pictures! It's tucked pretty deep into the island, so at night the house gets super quiet and dark. The community beach at Raccoon Point is beautiful and very accessible. The house has great amenities--the kitchen is set up really really well. At first I was a little suspicious of the tub (it has a deep bucket shape), but it was actually pretty comfortable. Suzanne was very communicative and helpful when asked for island to-do recommendations. Definitely worth a visit!

We chose this unique house for its fairytale, rustic charm. It was such a delight to while away the hours inside the main living dome, or to soak in the deep Japanese tub, or lounge on the sun-dappled deck overlooking the beautiful water with a view of the magnificent, snow capped Mt. Baker in the background. We also enjoyed the nearby nature trail that leads to a breathtakingly beautiful secluded beach just a pleasant little walk from the house. My boyfriend is German and we were then in a long distance relationship--him in Germany, me in the Usa-- and we had not seen each other for 3 months; so you can imagine how lovely it was for us to forget all about the outside world and enjoy our much-longed-for reunion in the Hobbit House--a place where we felt completely adrift outside of time in such a quiet and secluded romantic setting. I will always remember this vacation in the Hobbit House fondly as the place where my sweet German man proposed to me. We are now, incidentally, living happily together in Munich, Germany and the date of our wedding is set for this September!

Boulder, COAmazing place to stay

This was perhaps our favorite rental house ever. It's beautiful and very different. Sort of like living in a fairy tale in the middle of the redwoods, facing the coast. There is a beautiful view of the water and a beach you can hike down to. Extremely quiet at almost the end of a dirt road.
Suzanne is wonderful and we felt taken care of. Can't recommend highly enough. -

Denver, COMagical, peaceful, romantic

This house is located near a beautiful private cove/beach where in a 5 minute walk you can be on the water. We saw dolphin, seals and otters swimming near by and enjoyed a beautiful sun rise. This house is sheltered in majestic cedar trees and has a beautiful view.

I stayed at the Hobbit House 3 times in 2012. "Magical" is the perfect word to describe it. A beautiful setting among the trees, with views of the ocean and Mt. Baker. Quiet, very clean, and comfortable. Its the perfect place to write, create art, rejuvenate, and just get away from it all. The neighborhood beach is stunning also. Highly recommended.
