Description from the owner
Castle View Apartment is a beautifully presented two double bedroomed property (sleeps 4) in an unbeatable central location in the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh's Old Town.
The property is on the second floor of a historic category 'C' listed 19th century apartment building - originally a block of artisans' dwellings - and has views of Edinburgh Castle from the living room window. The Grassmarket itself is full of historic pubs, excellent restaurants, second hand bookshops and funky retro and vintage clothing shops and is a wonderful place to stroll and browse. The apartment is also excellently placed for Festival and Fringe venues and... a five minute walk from Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and many of Edinburgh's other main sights.
Castle View Apartment is very well equipped and beautifully furnished throughout. We the owners, run, manage and maintain the apartment ourselves. Attention to detail is very important to us and we strive to make sure that the apartment is presented to the highest of standards at all times.
We let the apartment for a minimum of 2 nights during weekends (Friday and Saturday nights) and usually 3 nights at other times of the week. At peak times (for example July, August, Christmas and New Year) our minimum lets may be longer - please ask for details if in any doubt.Read more

Another Great Stay
I travel to Edinburgh at least once a year, and pre trip, I always check to see if this flat is available. This will have been my third stay at Castle View apartment. My stay here was another five star experience. As always the flat was immaculate, and it was very easy to settle in. The flat is nicely furnished and very comfortable. All appliances, heating, hot water and television were top rate and fully functional. The kitchen with all necessary housewares is always appreciated as are the treats left as a welcome.
The area is perfect place to stay whether this is your first trip, or a return visit. The variety of shops and restaurants in the area are all pretty much top quality and there is plenty to do. Most places you might want to visit in the city are in walking distance, or if that's not an option, there are plenty of taxis available. Public transportation is also close by. There is great information at the flat on places to visit, and brochures are available. The flat is so comfortable and well appointed that staying in is an attractive option as well.
Peter is a wonderful host, and really goes out of his way to make sure his guests have a great stay. I hope to be visiting again!

I don't typically write reviews, but my fiancée and I and our two friends had such a lovely time, I felt this warranted an exception.
Upon arriving, we met up with Peter, the owner, who was very friendly and welcoming-not only did he provide a bit of breakfast food for us to use at our convenience, but he left us some Scotch as well! Edinburgh Castle is visible right out the front window, which seemed almost unreal. The place was very well-furnished and very clean, and even had a faux-fireplace heater for ambiance. There was also a dishwasher and a washer/dryer (although we never used it), both of which seemed nearly new. And of course, having Wi-Fi was a great resource for us to be able to research activities ahead of time and stay in touch with friends and family at home.
The apartment is in a perfect location, right near Grassmarket, which has several restaurants and pubs from which to choose should you decide to stay local. (This is something of an odd thing to say, because Edinburgh's city center is so walkable that pretty much everything is "local.") We were able to easily go out for a bit, come back, and then go back out again. The apartment building is a bit hidden (the entrance is labeled "Cordiner's Land") between two bookshops, but I was aware of this before the trip (thanks to Google Maps street view!) so I had no trouble finding the place.
Some local perks include the Dragonfly cocktail bar just a few doors down from the apartment, and Mary's Milk Bar a bit further down from that.
I honestly can't think of anything at all negative to say about the apartment, and next time I plan on visiting Edinburgh I will absolutely be looking to stay here.
(Heads up, there is no elevator, so if that's an issue for you, be aware.)
continues to exceed expectations
We are a family of two adults and two teenage children, and have stayed in Castle View apartment for the past three years. It is located just off Grassmarket and is a fantastic location from which to experience the Edinburgh festivals. The apartment is comfortable, stylish and incredibly well maintained - it is beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean, and with a welcome pack that takes Scottish hospitality to a new level. There is no better endorsement than to say we have booked already for next year!
Great Stay at Castle View apartment
Our host, Peter Tucker was most accomodating. We arrived about two hours late and weren't able to contact him to let him know. Peter waited for us and still took the time to make sure we were comfortable, even though it made him late for another appointment. Not only is Peter a very nice guy, he gave us a lot of valuable information on what to see in Edinburgh. In fact, he also gave us some helpful insights on the rest of our trip outside the city.
The apartment was everything advertised and more. When it says "castle view", it really means it. We could see the whole side of the castle from our front window. The apartment was clean, well-stocked, decorated with some cool artwork, and full of amenities- including heavy curtains, which were needed when the sun came up at about 5:00 a.m. The location was outstanding- close to Grassmarket and all of its shops and pubs, but far enough away to be very quiet. Also a very short walk to the castle.
The location and our host were the high points of the let, but everything was really fantastic. We would definitely recommend the apartment for a great stay in Edinburgh.
Great place and great location!
My friend and I had a great stay here. We met with Peter at the apt when we go into town and he was very helpful in showing us around the place and advising us of things to do and see and also recommending places to eat. The location was great! We were just down the street from the Grass Market area and an up the stairs climb to get to the Castle and Royal Mile. The only downside would be the parking situation (street parking free at night and Car Park during the day), but if you don't have a car, this is the place you want to be!
Fantastic - Could not have asked for a better stay.
Beautiful spacious apartment in an excellent central location in Edinburgh Old Town. Great Castle views. Stylish, luxurious and comfortable decor. Pete, the apartment owner, was unobtrusive, very helpful and friendly and really took his time to ensure we got the best and most out of our stay in Edinburgh (with thorough and detailed communication beforehand). We also enjoyed complimentary pastries and a decanter of Whisky! The cupboards were well stocked with crockery and cutlery, tea and coffee. Will definitely recommend this apartment to friends and family and hope to return in the future. Excellent value for money.
Excellent weekend away!
This apartment was great, the owner literally had thought of everything, we were very impressed with the welcome/breakfast pack that had been left for us, we will definitely be back.

Location, location, location
A comfortable, beautifully appointed and well located apartment in the Old Town. Perfectly placed for the Grassmarket, Royal Mile and Old Town with easy access to Princess Street Gardens and the New Town. A very warm welcome complete with welcome pack and all the comforts of a first class hotel. Would certainly return and have recommended to friends as a great place to stay. Even our friends who live in Edinburgh said they would recommend it to visitors looking for a reasonably priced and comfortable place to stay. Our host could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Looking forward to planning our return.
Excellent Location and Unexpected Quiet
Absolutely well located. You will never need to use bus or taxi to get to the city center. Three minutes walking to pubs and restaurants area, less then 10 minutes to get to the castle and 20 to the center. You can walk to everywhere easily. If you want to cook at home you have a Sainsbury's just on the corner.
Peter is a very nice person and will help in everything you need. The house is clean, quiet, warm and well decorated. Excellent choice and it was my second time in Edinburgh. To be perfect the pillows and mattress could be more strong. Read more

Thanks for your excellent feedback and I'm really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Castle View Apartment. For others reading this review I would like to mention that the mattresses on both beds are "Silent Night" medium mattresses with a removable cushioned mattress topper as we've found over the years that this suits most guests. The topper could have been removed if we'd known Joao preferred to sleep on a harder mattress. Lastly we provide a selection of both feather/down and anti-allergy fibre filled pillows at the apartment.
Thank you again Joao and do get in touch if you're planning a return visit to Edinburgh.

A great place to stay.
We have traveled to Edinburgh several times and have always utilized edlets.
Staying at Castle View apartments/ owner Peter Tucker was by far the best
apt we have rented, and will definitely stay there again. The location was perfect, we love grass market. The flat was lovely, extremity clean, well decorated, fully equipped, great towels. The hospitality of the owner Peter tucker was outstanding. Great place highly recommend it.
Excellent apartment - Fantastic Location - Knowledgeable Owner
Stayed at this apartment for three nights. Peter was ready and waiting when I arrived and stayed to talk me through the property including access, electricals etc. and answer any questions I had.
I cannot speak highly enough of the cleanliness of the apartment - it wasn't just visibly clean but, more importantly, felt clean. (The latter cannot be said for any of the hotels I've stayed in.) In the bathroom, full-sized bottles of bath wash and hand lotion had been provided. In the bedroom, the draped curtain had blackout lining to ensure a good night's sleep and good storage for clothing. The apartment was easy to keep warm with a faux fire display and sufficient electric radiators (and the carafe of whiskey provided certainly took the edge off the chilly weather!) In the kitchen, all the essentials had been provided - from crockery through to cling film and ground coffee. Breakfast essentials (pastries, cereal, butter, marmalade, milk and juice) were waiting in the fridge. Wi-fi was easy to access and quick.
As a lone, female traveller, the swipecard and key access required to access the apartment was reassuring - a word of warning for anyone who finds stairs a difficulty as there are two flights to reach the apartment.
Location-wise, the castle can be seen from the living room window, noises from the road aren't unmanageable (the bedroom is at the quieter rear of the property) and the sights and shops are all within walking distance.
Peter's recommendations (Hula - their frangipani milkshake collected en route to the castle one morning) and the Mussel and Steak Restaurant (good-sized, very fresh seafood platter) were within walking distance, good quality and well priced.
All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend either Peter or the apartment and if you're having difficulty deciding where to stay - look no further.

Ideal Location and Every Comfort of Home
I recently spent five nights in Castle View apartment while visiting my son at The University of Edinburgh. I arrived in a taxi and departed in one and never took one in between. Fabulous restaurants, markets - including the Farmer's Market and all the main tourist attractions were within easy walking distance. I worked from the apartment and cooked in as well and found the attention to detail in the decoration, cleanliness and detail was most impressive. I cannot wait to return.
Fantastic stay! Extremely good value for money and great locatio
I wanted to commend Peter on such a fantastic apartment and the exceptional service he provided. We were genuinely very very impressed (and we have travelled around the world lots!). Our main aim was to impress a relative that had travelled from Canada to be with us over the holidays.. Well we did that!It was the little touches that did it for us... The whisky, the pastries in the fridge, the condiments and basic things that are sometimes missing from short lets like a full range of cooking utensils and good quality toiletries in the bathroom. Those extra touches is what impresses people and wont forget you or the time they had!
We may be in touch again soon as will definately be back and would 100% recommend.
We Will B Back...
A fantastic apartment with exceptional service. We were genuinely very very impressed (and we have travelled around the world!) It was the little touches that did it for us... The whisky, the pastries in the fridge, the condiments and basic things that are sometimes missing from short lets like a full range of cooking utensils and good quality toiletries in the bathroom.
Loved this apartment! Really good location literally a minute's walk from the pubs and shops in Grassmarket and not far at all from everything else like the Royal Mile, New Town etc.
The whole apartment was spotlessly clean and comfortable and nicely decorated. Lovely and warm too on a rainy December day! The owner was very welcoming, we really appreciated the welcome whisky and tasty breakfast goodies :O) Would heartily recommend this place to anyone.
(Oh and not forgetting it really does have a Castle View)
Perfect - Would defiantly recommend!
Peter was very welcoming upon arrival and he had even filled the fridge with milk, orange juice, bagels, crossiants and haggis for us to try! The apartment was modern, extremely clean, comfortable and had a good view of the castle from the living room window. The location was perfect for us as it was extremely central being in the grassmarket, which is just a few minutes walk from the royal mile and the castle. No bad points about our stay. would definitely recommend.
At the moment: Vienna
Wonderful flat, brilliant location and helpful, nice host.
We would return to this apartment any time we could. It is cosy and comfortable and clean with everything you need. You look out the window up to the imposing castle and walk out the door to the centre of the Old City. The owner is kind and helpful and not imposing in any way.
Exceptional accomodation, convenient to the city centre.
Met the owner who is a sincere person, who was very attentive and helpful. Apartment is particularly clean, warm and exceptionally well presented with an integrated colour scheme (Top class curtains, nice chandeliers) and pleasant art prints of Edinburgh city. Apartment comfortably accomodated four adults. Well equipped kitchen,(Pete had left lots of extras in the fridge, plenty of towels,Books and National Graphic magazines. It has cable TV). The apartment was tranquil with quiet resident neighbours. It is in a safe area adjacent to the Edinburgh art College. It is secure with excellent door locks. Whole complex cannot be entered from outside without a swipe card. Had our breakfast each morning looking out the apartment window at Edinburgh Castle. The apartment is in a great location just a few minutes walk from the Royal mile, and around the western side of Edinburgh Castle which is the fastest route down to Princes St or Charlotte Square. The apartment Located 30 meters from a Supermarket (open 0700hrs to 2300 hours. Antiquarian print shops, cafes,Pubs located on the street.

5 Star Experience
There is no better way to get a feel for a city than by actually becoming a resident, even temporarily. Castle View apartment is an excellent way to experience Edinburgh for the first time, or a returning guest.
The flat is located in one of the most interesting and active neighbourhoods in the city. It is centrally located to just about all places of interest and I was able to walk to everywhere I needed and wanted to go.
The flat is located in a historic, secure and quiet building, close to a grocery, many restaurants, pubs, bookshops and retail stores. As its name suggests, there is a stunning view of Edinburgh Castle from the front rooms. Public transportation and taxis are all readily available. The flat itself is spacious, very clean, extremely comfortable and nicely decorated. Everything is there to enable one to be self sufficient: linens and towels, tableware, cookery etc. Lovely amenities included the makings for morning tea and coffee as well as a dram or two of whisky, which was most appreciated after a long trip.
Check in was faultless as I was personally met at the apartment by the owner Peter. I was shown around and all workings were explained to me. I felt completely comfortable with how appliances etc. operated, and clued in to what was available in the area. Peter was always reachable in the event that I had a question or needed information. A personal touch is provided here that sadly is missing from so many other vacation rentals. Here you truly feel like a guest.
As I mentioned the flat is most comfortable and well appointed. I stayed for an extended time and the apartment was serviced once a week, and was always kept to the same high standard. Plenty of heat and hot water, and the included wifi was a wonderful addition. It was fast and reliable. For those days that I wanted to say in, there was plenty of reading material as well as a great channel selection on the television.
I would stay again at anytime.
We had the pleasure of staying at the Castle View apartment for 4 days and both the apartment and Peter exceeded our expectations.
Peter met us at his very comfortable apartment (yes you can see the castle out of the window) on our arrival to give us an overview. In addition he provided various items to start us off...including a few drams of Single Malt and haggis. The apartment is in a great location close to Grassmarket Square and the Royal Mils...and of course the castle.
As mentioned above the apartment was lovely, extemely comfortable and Peter's welcome started off our magical trip to Edinburgh on a very high note.
A great find.
This is a lovely apartment to stay in and was a lucky find for my first visit to Edinburgh. It's in a great location just off Grassmarket (where there are lots of interesting shops and only a short walk into the centre of town)and has a view of the castle from the living room. The apartment is very well furnished, extremely clean and was equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We received a warm welcome from Peter who had put the heating on for us and had even bought us breakfast for our first morning. He had provided lots of information about what to do in Edinburgh, and where to eat etc and I really got the impression that he wanted whoever stayed in the apartment to have an enjoyable holiday. It really was a lovely place to come back to after a long day of sightseeing - I would definitely stay here again and not hesitate to recommend it.
outstanding apartment in Edinburgh
This was our second time to stay in Castle View ... it is a brilliantly located apartment just off Grassmarket with, yes, a view of the castle. Lots of cafes and restaurants on the doorstop, and a mini supermarket on the corner. The apartment itself is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. It has everything you could possibly want for a self-catering stay in Edinburgh and the owner, Peter Tucker, is incredibly accommodating and welcoming. There were four of us, including two teenage girls, and we will never want to stay anywhere else in Edinburgh.

Perfect apartment in a Great Location
Loved our stay here! Peter met us on the first day and showed us around the apartment. He also had a binder and a bunch of brochures for good places to eat and shop. The apartment was very clean and nicely decorated. It had a very comfortable and homey feel to it. The kitchen had everything you could ask for, and we even got a breakfast starter pack which was great. Location was perfect, good area within walking distance to the Royal Mile. No complaints everything was great!
lovely stay in a great flat!
The flat is very tastefully furnished and full of light, with gorgeous towels and a great location. All of the appliances we saw were brand new, and Peter made us feel both absolutely welcome and very pampered! All in all, it was a lovely stay in a great flat.
S & A
A comfortable, convient, enjoyable stay in Edinburgh.
It's a lovely, well-appointed flat with thoughtful touches throughout. The service was excellent, the hospitality warm and professional. It's very conveniently located to the Grassmarket, Victoria Street, and a short walk from Princes Street and arthur's Seat. Highly recommended.
Great stay in a great location!
The flat is right in the old town, walking distance to practically everything. It is also bright, spacious and exceptionally clean; Peter has thought of everything and is exceptionally accommodating!
A lovely comfortable apartment that is a home from home
Peter met us and could not have been more helpful showing us the workings of the aoartment. The luxury touches in the flat just made it special e.g.Whisky in the decanter, fresh flowers in the vases. The apartment is well laid out and everything worked. Peter is on the end of a phone should you need to contact him. Location was central and Edinburgh Castle can be seen from the lounge windows. The flat and location great!
This is beautiful apartment in the heart of old Edinburgh. Great view of the castle and perfect location on the edge of the Grassmarket. Peter is a great host who decorated and furnished this apartment in a stylish yet omfortable manner. Peter is extremely helpful and couldn't do enough to ensure that we had an enjoyable stay in Edinburgh. I would definitely recommend this apartment.

Perfect apartment, perfect location, great host!
We spent 4 nights in Edinburgh, and had to come up with lodging on short notice due to a change in travel plans. We were incredibly lucky to find Castle View apartment! The locaiton was perfect for sightseeing - an easy walk or bus ride to everything. The apartment has been recently renovated and was in excellent condition - it looked like we were the first guests to ever stay. Peter met us and spent plenty of time showing us how everything worked and also answered all of our questions about tours, sights, restaurants, shopping - essentially everything we needed to make the most of a short visit. There was plenty of room for the two of us, and we enjoyed our relaxation in the apartment as much as being out and about.
Great apartment, great location!
We just were excited to stay at this nice apartment! Owner was extremely helpful and recommended great places to visit around.
We highly recommend this place!
From start to finish our stay was fantastic. On arrival Peter (owner) provided a full tour of the flat and left us with croissants, orange juice and milk...perfect for breakfast. The flat was in excellent condition, the beds were comfortable and the location can't be beaten. We will certainly be staying in this apartment on our next trip to Edinburgh. Having never been to Edinburgh before I can certainly say it's a fantastic city break and well worth a visit. I would highly recommend staying in this apartment.

Home away from Home with extras!
The apartment was such a lovely greeting to us after almost 24 hours en route. Peter met us there to explain the workings and to introduce us to the little extras such as haggis and Scotch wisky. The apartment itself was lovely and well located especially with the help that Peter gave us in finding an apartment in the same building for some friends of ours that joined us. he also made some suggestions that we might not have considered for travel to the far northern parts of Scotland. While the apartment was very clean and beautifully decorated, pretty much perfect, it was the connection with Peter that made the difference between a lovey trip to Edinburgh and a really amazing trip discovering Scotland. Thank You Peter. Read more

Holly, thank you so much for such lovely feedback. I'm really delighted that you enjoyed the apartment and that your trip way up to the top of Scotland was a success. All the best to you and your family and do get in touch if you're planning to visit again. Peter.

Perfect location, perfect apartment, perfect vacation
The location and the appointments for this apartment were better than advertised. Peter went out of his way to show us key features and usage. Two things might be considered for future enhancements. Because the bathroom sink is so small, the faucet might be better situated off to the side of the washbowl. The faucet takes up so much room, you cannot wash your face without hitting the spigot or splashing water onto the floor. Written instructions for the TV and the washing machine would have been helpful for reference since we forgot some of the things Peter told us. Finally, it should be emphasized as part of the online description that there are no lifts and that luggage must be hand-carried up several flights of steps. Older or mobility-restricted travelers should not discover this when they are at the doorstep.
Well maintained and clean apartment with a warm atmosphere
The owner met us on arrival, made our party feel at home and gave a thorough brief on all aspects of the apartment.
The apartment was spotlessly clean, well decorated through-out and all mod-cons were provided.
The apartment is ideally situated, with Princes Street and the High Street within easy walking distance.
The welcoming dram of whisky and bit of shortbread were a welcome touch.
The only down-side was the lack of an immediate car-parking facility. The nearest NCP was a 5-minute walk from the flat and rather expensive.
Brilliant hospitality in a highly comfortable setting
my friends and i had a brilliant stay in this apartment; comfort and attention to detail from the word go - nothing was too much trouble and everything had been thought out very carefully. Peter is a lovely host; perfectly discreet but on hand for information / help etc we would all definitely stay here again

Great position, great facilities, great view!
Four of us stayed in this lovely apartment over Hogmanay 2011. Peter made us very welcome and we felt very much at home in the flat. It is very well-appointed, and in a wonderful location within walking distance of everything we wanted to see and do. There is a supermarket just up the street and lots of interesting restaurants, pubs and shops nearby. The best bit was probably being able to watch the fireworks explode over the Castle at midnight from our lounge window.
Our family had a great stay in Edinburgh. We were traveling with two small children and I greatly appreciated the cleanliness of the apartment! Honestly, the cleanest apartment we have ever stayed in. The place has everything one would need and all in excellent condition. The welcome pack provided was very nice and helped to tied over our children until we could go to the grocery. Sainsbury's is only is a 2 minute walk up the road. The location of the apartment can not be beat. Tons of pubs and restaurants all within a few minutes walk. We loved our stay and Pete's hospitality can not be beat! Would highly recommend staying here over a hotel!!

fabulous 5 star apartment excellent location
Stayed with a group of friends for the second time in this apartment and we will definately be returning. Peter provides a welcome pack on arrival and goes the extra mile for his customers. The apartment is spotlessly clean and has all the amenities for a comfortable stay including complimentary toiletries,wi/fi,cable tv etc.The location in the grassmarket is excellent with all the pubs, restaurants, nightclubs, castle and royal mile on your doorstep and is within walking distance for all the sights. We consider Peters apartment as our home from home when we are in Edinburgh and are looking forward to our annual trip already.
Great Place in Edinburgh
We stayed here for only 2 days, but if we return to Edinburgh, we will certainly hope to rent this apt again.
Peter Tucker was very personable and helpful, and his apt rental was excellent. It is in a great location right in the centre of the city, within walking distance of lots of pubs/restaurants, shops, and attractions. The living room/diningroom faces the street, giving a great view of the castle and the street below, and the bedroom faces the interior, allowing for a quiet night's sleep.
The apt was very clean, and well equipped (full kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi),with a comfortable bed.
Mr Tucker provided a very nice welcome-pack of milk, butter, jam & croissants/pain au chocolat, as well as Scotch, coffee, tea & biscuits.
We thouroughly enjoyed our stay in this apt.
Amazing, fantastic, beautiful...
Great location, beautiful and clean, literally home away from home. Yet again another fantastic stay in one of Petes' apartments. I highly recommend staying.
Wonderful apartment in amazing location
Beautifully decorated, very well kept apartment in a lovely building. Perfect location near Grassmarket with views of the Castle. Quiet as well at night (and I was staying when the Fringe and International Festival was on!). Great to come back to at the end of the evening. Highly recommended - I'm going to try to book again for next year in august.
Dream apartment in Edinburgh
A friend had stayed in another of Peter Tucker's apartments last year - the wonderful eyrie that is Greyfriars attic - so I had an idea of what to expect. But Castle View apartment exceeded all expectations. It's not like any other self-catering accommodation I've ever been in - it feels more like a luxury boutique hotel. Decorated in shades of cream and taupe, with thick carpets, comfortable beds with lovely bedlinen, heavy curtains to block out the light and ensure a good night's sleep, fluffy towels and toiletries in the bathroom, it's a wonderful apartment.
Other places provide a 'welcome' pack for the first morning, but Peter takes it to the next level, with different breads, pastries, orange juice, butter, marmalade, tea and excellent coffee.
He has thought of everything and the apartment is incredibly well stocked: all the little vexations that normally accompany a self-catering holiday - like having to buy an entire box of washing powder, or a packet of salt, or a bottle of olive oil - are not a problem here. We made such great inroads on the complimentary single malt whisky that we wanted to replenish it, but Peter assured us that it was there to be enjoyed during our stay.
The apartment is spotlessly clean and It has everything you could possibly want, including a television with cable channels, iPod dock and very fast wi-fi.
The location is fantastic, on the edge of the Grassmarket, with a view of the castle and just 5 minutes' walk from the Traverse and Lyceum Theatres and the Usher Hall in one direction, and the castle and the Royal Mile in the other.
We travelled with two teenage girls, and the apartment was a perfect size for the four of us. We'll be back!
Home away From Home
Wow, What a find!! We had a wonderful time staying at the Castle View apartment.
Spotlessly clean, quiet and very cosy.
Peter the owner had gone to great lengths to make sure we didn't need a thing.
Perfect location to everything.
Defiantly know where we are staying on our next trip to Edinburgh.

Castleview apartment - Edinburgh
We stayed at the Castleview apartment in July and were very impressed with Peter the owner. He greeted us when we arrived, the apartment was very clean and cozy just like home. It was very stocked and Peter took the time to show us how things operated. The cupboards were well stocked with everything you needed if you choose to cook your meal at the apartment. I would highly recommend this place to anyone going there and we would definitely go back to that aparment.
Perfect apartment for 4
This apartment is great for 2 couples. The location is ideal, and it was spotlessly clean with lovely bedrooms / bathroom and a very nice kitchen / lounge area. The owner was very friendly and helpful. Great view of the fireworks at the Castle too!
Great apartment, great landlord.
A well designed apartment with great attention to detail and everything you could need; in a great location near the Grassmarket and within walking distance to all main attractions; clean, well presented and with lots of little 'extra' touches; plus a landlord who was willing to do check-in in the early hours of the morning when my flights were cancelled and I had to coach into Edinburgh. All in all, a very happy experience.
Peter met us at the apartment and was very thoughtful as he showed us around the apartment and got us settled. The place was immaculate and comfortable and everything you could possibly need from a french press to a good novel to pick up while you curled up in front of the fireplace was provided. I almost don't want to write too good of a review- since I want the apartment available the next time we head to Edinburgh. Cheers!

Outstanding Edinburgh location
Peter Tucker, the apartment owner, maintained excellent contact with my wife and I both at time of booking and upon arrival in Edinburgh. While the building like most in the city is older and has a deep history, the apartment unit was modern with full kitchen, washroom and laundry facilities; the availability of the second bedroom was also a plus. Most outstanding though was the accomodation location so close to GrassMarket and its pubs and restaurants, the Royal Mile, music concert venues and the nearby grocery store.Everything was so close and easy to walk to. The view of Edinburgh Castle from the living room window was the icing on the cake for our 4 day stay. This was a great place for us to enjoy our first few days in Scotland as we commenced our vacation from Edinburgh to the Highlands and Hebrides.

Could Not Have Been Better
I decided to choose Castle View apartment over a hotel as this was my first trip to Edinburgh, and having ancestral connection, I wanted to get a true feel for the city. As a solo traveler my fear was that with a hotel it would be too easy to 'hide' and therefore miss a lot.
I was sincerely welcomed upon arrival, given a tour of the apartment, and an overview of the neighborhood. I found the apartment to be very clean, well decorated, and extremely comfortable. Amenities such as a lovely single-malt were much appreciated. You could not ask for better management from booking right through to departure.
The location could not have been better and I was able to walk everywhere I needed to get to. The Grassmarket is comparable to Nyc's Greenwich Village and a varied selection of clubs, shops, restaurants and pubs are to be found there. As such, it is a high traffic area and a particular weekend destination. I personally did not find the noise level excessive or out of the ordinary for the area. Even on a Saturday night, things settled down relatively early, and all was fine. The building itself is very quiet and everyone I came across was friendly. I found the building to be very secure as well.
There is a grocery a short walk from the apartment as well as coffee bars and cafes. The kitchen is very well equipped and making meals was no problem. Though I will say that if you are american, please go over how to use the stove. Lol! Nice to relax in the evening and stare at a castle:)
I stayed at this location for 16 days and after about 5 felt as if I truly resided not just in the apartment, but in Edinburgh itself. The city is very welcoming and I had absolutely no problems while there. I had to remind myself that this was not my apartment a few times:) So the bottom line is that if you want a true experience of Edinburgh, comfortable and secure accommodations in a great and active part of the city, do not hesitate to book.
Very nice apartment in a great location.
My mother and I stayed at Castle View apt for 3 nights in august while on vacation in Edinburgh.
The apartment was very nice with great attention paid to detail. Everything was immaculately clean (kitchen, dishes, silverware, carpet, walls, etc.) The bedding and towels were of very high quality. So it was really like moving into a model home for 3 nights.
With 2 bedrooms, there was plenty of space for my mother and me and we were (finally) able to have a bit of privacy on the trip. In fact, we we got back to London we stayed in a hotel and it was a bit of a letdown.
Staying at Peter's apartment is staying at your friends (squeaky clean and well decorated and fully stocked apartment). Peter has definitely gotten himself into the right business because he is an expert at preparing these places for guests. I would love to stay at one of his apartments in the future.
We had a great time...our landlord even left some scottish whiskey bread milk cakes etc for us in the appartment which we had no problem consuming...location was spot on & no outside noise...we had a ball & will defenitely return to this appartment...i may goagain to appartment in a few months with my son & 2 daughtes if the price is right...go raibh math agat...galic for; thank you...i have a lovely holiday home in donegal ireland ...i rent it during the summer & usually have it rented for the 4 months...it anybody is interested my ph/no; is 0861740774...Thank You
hidden gem in Edinburgh old town
We had a great 3-day break at this lovely apartment close to the Grassmarket and the Royal Mile - the owner handed over the keys in person and gave us a warm welcome leaving us with a few good basics to start us off including an informative review of pubs and restaurants in the area - the apartment was cosy and comfortable and the decor was reminiscent of a smart boutique B&B; - lots of nice touches and, while it sleeps four, it would make a good retreat for couples

A lovely stay in Edinburgh
I had never rented an apartment instead of a hotel before and was a little nervous about whether there might be unplesant surprises. The surprise was how wonderful Peter Tucker was and what a welcoming apartment he has created. The grassmarket area of Edinburgh is well-situated and pretty hip. The apartment was very, very clean, nicely furnished, and very comfortable. Peter Tucker was totally reliable in making reservations and making transfer of payment for the apartment to him. Peter greeted us at the apartment along with pastries, juice, milk, and a carafe with whiskey in it. The one issue of concern was street noise -- an issue noted by other reviewers. There's a lot of pub and club activity in the area and on Friday and Sat. nite is was quite noisy with a lot of shouting and singing outside of the building until 4 am. But for those of you who will be staying out late on weekends, you'll be joining the fun and won't be sleeping anyway! Read more

Thanks very much for your very generous feedback and I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Castle View. We take any reports of nuisance noise very seriously and are disappointed on your behalf that you were disturbed by weekend noise during your stay. However we would like to point out to other readers of this report that the noise described in this review is not normal. it is also unlawful and had we been aware of it at the time we would have reported the incident to the police.
Last November we had scheduled the installation of double glazing and drapes with soundscreening in the second bedroom (again, for the benefit of other readers, the second bedroom overlooks the road and so is the room affected by the noise in this guest's review: the main bedroom is quietly located to the rear of the building). This work had to be postponed due to the severe weather experienced in Edinburgh from November - January. I'm pleased to say that it will take place this coming week when the main bedroom and bathroom will also undergo upgrade work. We hope that this will enhance the apartment in general as well as deal with any noise issues in the second bedroom.
Many thanks again,

lovely apartment, great location
great weekend away, apartment was lovely, good location -5 to 10 min walk to bars and shops could see the top of castle from living room! would defo like to stay again
Excellent apartment, great location and brilliant personal touch
We arrived on a Friday afternoon as agreed and found the apartment with no problems. It is very well situated in the Grassmarket and in walking distance of all of the main attractions, shops, restaurants and pubs. Pete was there to show us round and gave a lot of great information about the flat and area. The apartment is finished to a very high standard and has everything you could need for a from a short break to a longer stay. We were very impressed with the personal little touches left by Pete for us such as a sample of local whiskey and milk and tea making essentials. Edinburgh is an excellent city and the apartment was so ideally placed that it made our stay very easy and relaxing.
Well equipped kitchen with all the necessary gadgets
Well postioned accomodation which was central to Prince's street as well as well stocked chain store (Sainsbury).
we will never stay any where else in edinburgh
A great apartment, we travelled as a group of four compromising two young couples. The apartment is really well appointed with all the mod cons you could need from satelite tv to diswasher. Add to this great decor two well spaced double bedrooms and a very relaxing feel.
The whole aprtment is great and the personal touches of fresh muffins and croissants added by Peter on arrival really pushed our experience the extramile.
The apartment is also in a great location in the heart of the grassmarket and a two minute walk to the castle.
We will never stay anywhere else in Edinburgh.
The flat is fantastic, location brilliant, very warm welcome and everything you could want from a self contained apartment. If the windows were double glazed to reduce the noise and the blinds let in less light, we all would have slept a little better and it would have been the perfect accomodation for a great city exploring weekend away. Hello Jabez, thanks for your lovely feedback. We are double glazing the sash and case windows in the front bedroom (which faces the street and which I'm assuming is the room that you are referring to) later this month and we have bought some lovely fabric which we are having made into curtains for both bedrooms - these will be ready and fitted within the next month. Hopefully this will address the points that you raise. Thanks again and best wishes from Edinburgh, Peter.

Castle View apt. will draw us back to Edinburgh!
Our wonderful stay began with a warm welcome and chat with Peter Tucker. Not only was he interested in us and our plans, but he had many helpful suggestions, both written and verbal, which made our visit easier and more pleasant. We tried nearly all his recommendations for restaurants and pubs, and there wasn't one that disappointed us. The whiskey he left for a welcome drink and the refrigerator stocked for our first breakfast went way beyond our expectations!
Our party included me and my husband (both retired) and our adult son and daughter-in-law. All of us have traveled in other countries and agreed that this was our best lodging experience ever. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay in this apartment! It is comfortable, attractive, convenient, and well-furnished, and everything is in good working order. As my title says, we hope to return to Edinburgh so we can stay there again.
The location was perfect for getting around and seeing Edinburgh's sights. Since it is in a busy part of the city, it was to be expected that there would be some street noise at night. We found ear plugs sufficient to deal with that and recommend them to future visitors.
In closing, we feel very fortunate that we found this great apartment and that it was available during the time we visited Edinburgh.
good location excellent situated to see all the sites very clean and secure and pete was very helpfull and a gentleman to deal with could not recomend this property and person to deal with and would like to wish him every sucess in the future and will definately use this property agin
Have been coming to Edinburgh for many years, and this our best trip yet. The apartment was wonderful, all the amenities one could ask for, the location sublime, easy walking distance to anything one might wish to do in Old Town, a handy Sainsbury just up the street. Waverley Station a 15 minute walk away.
Peter was so welcoming and helpful, the apartment top notch, crisp and clean, yet warm and inviting. Everything in perfect working order, the view so delightful. The extra personal touches were a real treat, a few essentials in the cupboard, some lovely scotch on the table. A very special stay we will remember always.
Perfect home-from-home in Edinburgh
On the basis of the website images, I was expecting this apartment to be nice, but on arrival, all my expectations were blown out of the water. Unlike every other holiday apartment I've rented, Castle View is actually larger than it looks on the website!
The kitchen is well equipped, and Pete, the owner, provides some lovely supplies to get you started. In fact, Pete was fantastic in general - friendly and helpful every time we dealt with him.
The apartment is spacious, clean, well-supplied and fantastically located. There's two supermarkets in walking distance, and you can see Edinburgh Castle from the lounge room window! We were staying during august, and the Tattoo was on, so we saw fireworks over the castle every night, too.
We were staying in Edinburgh for the fringe festival, and this is a great apartment for this purpose - two bedrooms with comfortable double beds, a decent-sized bathroom, a great kitchen and a comfortable living room, with an electric fireplace for heating. And within walking distance of basically every major venue in the fringe.
We were there for a month, and I really think you could live in this apartment for a lot longer, and be just as comfortable as you would be in your own place.

High Quality accommodation, Helpful Owner, Handy Location
From the moment we arrived, Peter made us feel welcome in this lovely apartment. He showed us around and explained how to use the appliances, heating etc. There was a supply of scones, butter, jam, coffee, tea, juice and milk in the fridge for breakfast, and a decanter of malt whiskey and shortbread - a very welcoming detail! Peter was very helpful with local advice, he even looked up and texted us the number of a local car rental agent that gave us a great deal on the van we rented. The apartment was well furnished with high quality appliances a lovely fireplace and very comfortable beds & linen. Plenty of towels as well as shampoo, soaps and gels were available. It is very centrally located, a short walk from the Royal Mile and with a view of the Castle. There is a supermarket about 50m up the street, also plenty of pubs and restaurants close by, the apartment is quiet however. There are also 2 interesting used bookshops right below, where we stocked up on books on our last evening in town. I would highly recommend Castle View to anyone looking for central and good quality accommodation in Edinburgh. The only drawback I can think of is the 2 flights of rather steep stairs - there is no lift access and this might cause problems for people with limited mobility.
Excellent apartment and great location
Good sized rooms, high spec apartment with everything you need to enjoy your stay. Highly recommended
Open Golf Trip
Centrally Located City Centre apartment
This is an excellent location next to Grassmarket in the Old town, looking up to Edinburgh Castle. We were met on arrival and shown how to use all the appliances, etc. the apartmnet is in excellent condition and looks recently renovated. All mod cons, very clean and some arrival treats laid on:)
Very much recommned this apartment. Excellent location and very friendly welcome by owner.

Ana, it was lovely to meet you and your friends. So glad that you enjoyed your stay and I do hope that you come again. All the very best to you from Edinburgh, Peter (not John!!).
Excellent venue, flat and welcome
The flat is superbly located for access to the city and also the livelier area of the grassmarket. The flat itself is very spacious and beautifully furnished. There is every amenity you could want for a short break or longer stay and the owner, Pete, is very helpful if you need any information or advice on anything in the flat. My brother and I felt this was great place and would definately recommend to friends and family and we would use if we visited Edinburgh again.
Home away from home!
What can I say - the title says it all. From our really warm welcome from Pete, to the immaculate, spotless and cosy apartment - including croissants, milk and orange juice - this was a lovely stay in Edinburgh. Where it is based is ideal for sight-seeing all round the city. Thoughtful is how I would sum it up - books and magazines left around for you to browse at, an ipod docker in the hifi, fairy lights round the fireplace, toiletries in the bathroom, beautiful Scottish china in the kitchen, lux woollen checked throws on the beds, and a travel cot bought especially for our arrival. Highly recommended - don't hesitate. (Only thing to note, the apartment is up two levels so if travelling with buggies/children, be aware - but don't be put off!)
Fabulous luxury pad with view of the castle!
This was a delightful place to stay, in an old
building just down the road from the Grassmarket.
From the immaculate decor, to the fluffy towels and
woollen blankets, to the decanter of Single Malt,
Peter had just thought of everything. There was even
breakfast in the fridge. I can't recommend it highly
enough - cheaper than a hotel and much more
comfortable. Top rate! and many thanks for a great

A beautifully presented apartment in a great and very central lo
When we started our search for accomodation for a short-stay trip to Edinburgh, we had few expectations: our budget was modest and all we were after was a central two-bedroom accomodation with Wi-Fi. Castle View Apartment was an unexpected and delightful surprise! It is spacious enough for four people yet cosy, warm and welcoming; tastefully decorated, with plenty of storage space, Wi-Fi and a superb view of Edinburgh Castle. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen spacious and well-equipped and the single malt awaiting the guests is both plentiful and pleasant!
The apartment is located right in the centre of Edinburgh, close to shops, a Sainsbury's Local, attractions, pubs and restaurants; Princes Street, the Royal Mile and the Castle are a very short walk away.
(The only thing we wouldn't recommend is the Chinese takeaway restaurant a few doors away... mediocre to say the least!)
Peter Tucker was welcoming and convivial (and very patient despite the late hour when we got lost on our arrival).
We would wholehertaedly recommend Castle View Apartment to anyone wanting to enjoy Edinburgh and we do hope we'll be able to come back in the near future.
very nice apartment!
The apartment is situated close to the grassmarket.
The moment you step in the apartment it feels like you're at home. With all modern equipments and this cosy atmosphere it made our stay in Edinburgh perfect. If I ever come back I would certainly book again!
Cosy comfort in a central location.
Most welcoming apartment in a pretty, traditional building close to all Edinburgh's glorious sightseeing locations - indeed there is a view of the Castle from the living room window!
Cosy style is combined with efficient modern decor and appliances, all exceptionally clean and in good order.
Altogether a special place I would be very happy to make my regular 'holiday home'.
all the comforts of home!
Castle View Apartment is in a perfect location for enjoying Edinburgh. So
many historical sites, good restaurants and shopping, as well as Princes Street
Gardens, are all within easy walking distance. The flat is extremely
comfortable and home-like, and includes a large refrigerator and stove, and
washer-dryer. We were met at the flat by the owner, who went over
everything with us, and made it clear we were free to call him at any time if
any problems arose. We would happily stay there again.
a white christmas
a beautiful white christmas in edinburgh!!
we travelled up from lincolnshire the day before christmas eve it was snowing for most of the journey but the roads were good all the way. the apartment was really easy to find and the sat'nav' location was spot on aswell!
the private entrance is clean and quiet, the apartment is lovely and inviting, the bathroom is realy cosy, the kitchen has everything you could need, the beds are really comfy, fab decor and everything is immaculate.
we were very pleased with the location, just a stones throw to the bars and restaurants in the grassmarket, a little further up you have the fab views from the castle esplanade and even more restaurants on george iv bridge! you can also walk over to the shops on princes street, but its not far to the bus stop if your bags are to heavy on the way back! plus there are always taxis about.
overall a great place to stay a fab location in a really nice city with plenty to see and do!
Cosy,stylish,perfect situation-Awesome Apartment
We had planned this trip for some time, and the recent bad weather made
us think we might not get on our flight, but all went smoothly. Any travel
anxieties we had melted away with the warm, personal welcome upon our
arrival at Castle View Apartment. Everything is there to ensure a pampered,
comfortable stay in this brilliant accommodation- lovely bed-linen,super-
comfy beds, malt whisky, shortbread and croissants, real! coffee, cute fire,
and very welcoming host. The kitchen and bathroom looked brand-new-
very stylish and well- equipped and everything was spotlessly clean and
Edinburgh looked just breathtaking, the fabulous skyline bathed in bright
winter sun-shine and blanketed in crisp snow. We couldn't have had a
better place to explore Edinburgh - you can walk everywhere from Castle
View - a delightful apartment in an amazing city.
We would happily recommend to anyone, but maybe we should keep this
gem our secret!
What did we like least?- the fact that it's not mine!
A gem of a find in the capital
I lived in Edinburgh for over 10 years before I moved back to the North East of England and wanted to show off Edinburgh to my North East pals. We booked through an agency and looked forward to our trip. I knew the area in which the flat is located and knew it would be ideal. Just wondered what the flat would be like....it was just gorgeous! It is stylish and homely at the same time. It makes the stay feel really quite special.
The welcome from owner Peter was great, he really did make us feel at home. He even supplied us with a decanter of malt whiskey, shortbread and a supply of breakfast goods.
We would not hesitate to go back and are considering returning quite soon.
Thanks for a great stay Pete!
Brilliant location, warm hospitality
My 12 year old daughter and I stayed in the Castle View apartment for a few days in May 2009 because we were both participating in the Great Edinburgh Run. The apartment was comfortable and clean and Mr Tucker was a welcoming and helpful host.
My daughter locked herself out of the apartment while I was running but help was immediately forthcoming from a neighbour and Mr Tucker ensured that a key got to us promptly. This just reinforced my sense of Edinburgh as a great city in which to take a holiday.

Fantastic, clean, near everything, and very nice management!
I found this apartment through an internet search and was a bit hesitant at first since I don't always go by what other people write :-) The place had such good reviews that I decided to rent it. This was an international transaction, and Peter was thorough, polite and very quick at answering all mail inquiries.
When we arrived, Peter (the owner) met us at the door, showed us around, and was exceedingly gracious in every way. We loved the apartment! The amazing croissants and cheese in the fridge, along with a decanter of whiskey was an extra nice surprise. The apartment was spotless, with a beautiful view of the castle from the comfortable and well-furnished sitting room was a treat ... awesome to see the castle fireworks each night we were in!
The amenities could not be topped. There was an ipod/iphone stereo connection, videos, beautiful television, all new kitchen and very comfortable beds. The neighborhood felt safe, even late at night, and the apartment was near everything. We visited the Fringe festival, and for this, the apartment was perfectly situated. Not too noisy in the immediate area, but very close to the areas with all the action. We also saw the Royal Tattoo, which was basically just a three block walk to Edinburgh Castle.
I would recommend (and do!) this apartment to anyone. What I liked best was the management ... Peter Tucker is a wonderful person who goes above and beyond the call to ensure his guests are happy. There are no negatives about this place that I can think of. Read more

Thanks for your lovely comments. I'm so glad that you have such positive memories of your stay. Hoping that you might visit again: it would be a real pleasure to have yourself and Ian as guests a second time around.
