Description from the owner
Castle View Apartment is a beautifully presented two double bedroomed property (sleeps 4) in an unbeatable central location in the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh's Old Town.
The property is on the second floor of a historic category 'C' listed 19th century apartment building - originally a block of artisans' dwellings - and has views of Edinburgh Castle from the living room window. The Grassmarket itself is full of historic pubs, excellent restaurants, second hand bookshops and funky retro and vintage clothing shops and is a wonderful place to stroll and browse. The apartment is also excellently placed for Festival and Fringe venues and...Read more

A comfortable, beautifully appointed and well located apartment in the Old Town. Perfectly placed for the Grassmarket, Royal Mile and Old Town with easy access to Princess Street Gardens and the New Town. A very warm welcome complete with welcome pack and all the comforts of a first class hotel. Would certainly return and have recommended to friends as a great place to stay. Even our friends who live in Edinburgh said they would recommend it to visitors looking for a reasonably priced and comfortable place to stay. Our host could not have been more helpful and accommodating. Looking forward to planning our return.

Absolutely well located. You will never need to use bus or taxi to get to the city center. Three minutes walking to pubs and restaurants area, less then 10 minutes to get to the castle and 20 to the center. You can walk to everywhere easily. If you want to cook at home you have a Sainsbury's just on the corner.
Peter is a very nice person and will help in everything you need. The house is clean, quiet, warm and well decorated. Excellent choice and it was my second time in Edinburgh. To be perfect the pillows and mattress could be more strong.Response from Peter Tucker at edinburgh-holiday-lets.com - 05/12/2013

Dear Joao,
Thanks for your excellent feedback and I'm really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Castle View Apartment. For others reading this review I would like to mention that the mattresses on both beds are "Silent Night" medium mattresses with a removable cushioned mattress topper as we've found over the years that this suits most guests. The topper could have been removed if we'd known Joao preferred to sleep on a harder mattress. Lastly we provide a selection of both feather/down and anti-allergy fibre filled pillows at the apartment.
Thank you again Joao and do get in touch if you're planning a return visit to Edinburgh.

Stayed at this apartment for three nights. Peter was ready and waiting when I arrived and stayed to talk me through the property including access, electricals etc. and answer any questions I had.
I cannot speak highly enough of the cleanliness of the apartment - it wasn't just visibly clean but, more importantly, felt clean. (The latter cannot be said for any of the hotels I've stayed in.) In the bathroom, full-sized bottles of bath wash and hand lotion had been provided. In the bedroom, the draped curtain had blackout lining to ensure a good night's sleep and good storage for clothing. The apartment was easy to keep warm with a faux fire display and sufficient electric radiators (and the carafe of whiskey provided certainly took the edge off the chilly weather!) In the kitchen, all the essentials had been provided - from crockery through to cling film and ground coffee. Breakfast essentials (pastries, cereal, butter, marmalade, milk and juice) were waiting in the fridge. Wi-fi was easy to access and quick.
As a lone, female traveller, the swipecard and key access required to access the apartment was reassuring - a word of warning for anyone who finds stairs a difficulty as there are two flights to reach the apartment.
Location-wise, the castle can be seen from the living room window, noises from the road aren't unmanageable (the bedroom is at the quieter rear of the property) and the sights and shops are all within walking distance.
Peter's recommendations (Hula - their frangipani milkshake collected en route to the castle one morning) and the Mussel and Steak Restaurant (good-sized, very fresh seafood platter) were within walking distance, good quality and well priced.
All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend either Peter or the apartment and if you're having difficulty deciding where to stay - look no further. -

I recently spent five nights in Castle View apartment while visiting my son at The University of Edinburgh. I arrived in a taxi and departed in one and never took one in between. Fabulous restaurants, markets - including the Farmer's Market and all the main tourist attractions were within easy walking distance. I worked from the apartment and cooked in as well and found the attention to detail in the decoration, cleanliness and detail was most impressive. I cannot wait to return.

I wanted to commend Peter on such a fantastic apartment and the exceptional service he provided. We were genuinely very very impressed (and we have travelled around the world lots!). Our main aim was to impress a relative that had travelled from Canada to be with us over the holidays.. Well we did that!It was the little touches that did it for us... The whisky, the pastries in the fridge, the condiments and basic things that are sometimes missing from short lets like a full range of cooking utensils and good quality toiletries in the bathroom. Those extra touches is what impresses people and wont forget you or the time they had!
We may be in touch again soon as will definately be back and would 100% recommend.

Honestly I was tempted to leave a bad review for this apartment so people won't go and will always be available for me but I guess that's just not fair ^_^ . Thx Mr.Tucker

Loved this apartment! Really good location literally a minute's walk from the pubs and shops in Grassmarket and not far at all from everything else like the Royal Mile, New Town etc.
The whole apartment was spotlessly clean and comfortable and nicely decorated. Lovely and warm too on a rainy December day! The owner was very welcoming, we really appreciated the welcome whisky and tasty breakfast goodies :O) Would heartily recommend this place to anyone.

Peter was very welcoming upon arrival and he had even filled the fridge with milk, orange juice, bagels, crossiants and haggis for us to try! The apartment was modern, extremely clean, comfortable and had a good view of the castle from the living room window. The location was perfect for us as it was extremely central being in the grassmarket, which is just a few minutes walk from the royal mile and the castle. No bad points about our stay. would definitely recommend.

Met the owner who is a sincere person, who was very attentive and helpful. Apartment is particularly clean, warm and exceptionally well presented with an integrated colour scheme (Top class curtains, nice chandeliers) and pleasant art prints of Edinburgh city. Apartment comfortably accomodated four adults. Well equipped kitchen,(Pete had left lots of extras in the fridge, plenty of towels,Books and National Graphic magazines. It has cable TV). The apartment was tranquil with quiet resident neighbours. It is in a safe area adjacent to the Edinburgh art College. It is secure with excellent door locks. Whole complex cannot be entered from outside without a swipe card. Had our breakfast each morning looking out the apartment window at Edinburgh Castle. The apartment is in a great location just a few minutes walk from the Royal mile, and around the western side of Edinburgh Castle which is the fastest route down to Princes St or Charlotte Square. The apartment Located 30 meters from a Supermarket (open 0700hrs to 2300 hours. Antiquarian print shops, cafes,Pubs located on the street.

There is no better way to get a feel for a city than by actually becoming a resident, even temporarily. Castle View apartment is an excellent way to experience Edinburgh for the first time, or a returning guest.
The flat is located in one of the most interesting and active neighbourhoods in the city. It is centrally located to just about all places of interest and I was able to walk to everywhere I needed and wanted to go.
The flat is located in a historic, secure and quiet building, close to a grocery, many restaurants, pubs, bookshops and retail stores. As its name suggests, there is a stunning view of Edinburgh Castle from the front rooms. Public transportation and taxis are all readily available. The flat itself is spacious, very clean, extremely comfortable and nicely decorated. Everything is there to enable one to be self sufficient: linens and towels, tableware, cookery etc. Lovely amenities included the makings for morning tea and coffee as well as a dram or two of whisky, which was most appreciated after a long trip.
Check in was faultless as I was personally met at the apartment by the owner Peter. I was shown around and all workings were explained to me. I felt completely comfortable with how appliances etc. operated, and clued in to what was available in the area. Peter was always reachable in the event that I had a question or needed information. A personal touch is provided here that sadly is missing from so many other vacation rentals. Here you truly feel like a guest.
As I mentioned the flat is most comfortable and well appointed. I stayed for an extended time and the apartment was serviced once a week, and was always kept to the same high standard. Plenty of heat and hot water, and the included wifi was a wonderful addition. It was fast and reliable. For those days that I wanted to say in, there was plenty of reading material as well as a great channel selection on the television.
I would stay again at anytime.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Castle View apartment for 4 days and both the apartment and Peter exceeded our expectations.
Peter met us at his very comfortable apartment (yes you can see the castle out of the window) on our arrival to give us an overview. In addition he provided various items to start us off...including a few drams of Single Malt and haggis. The apartment is in a great location close to Grassmarket Square and the Royal Mils...and of course the castle.
As mentioned above the apartment was lovely, extemely comfortable and Peter's welcome started off our magical trip to Edinburgh on a very high note. -

This was a lovely place to stay with a bus stop outside and, in any case, almost everything we wanted to do in walking distance. It was perfect for two of us, with a room each; three would also be comfortable but more might be too much of a squash. The bedding and furnishings were all of good quality and the welcome pack with a decanter of single malt an unexpected delight. Coupled with that the owner is a delightful thoughtful man. Climbing up the external stairs to the second floor was a bit tiring for us but it was worth it to settle in there each evening.

This is a lovely apartment to stay in and was a lucky find for my first visit to Edinburgh. It's in a great location just off Grassmarket (where there are lots of interesting shops and only a short walk into the centre of town)and has a view of the castle from the living room. The apartment is very well furnished, extremely clean and was equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. We received a warm welcome from Peter who had put the heating on for us and had even bought us breakfast for our first morning. He had provided lots of information about what to do in Edinburgh, and where to eat etc and I really got the impression that he wanted whoever stayed in the apartment to have an enjoyable holiday. It really was a lovely place to come back to after a long day of sightseeing - I would definitely stay here again and not hesitate to recommend it.

This was our second time to stay in Castle View ... it is a brilliantly located apartment just off Grassmarket with, yes, a view of the castle. Lots of cafes and restaurants on the doorstop, and a mini supermarket on the corner. The apartment itself is beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. It has everything you could possibly want for a self-catering stay in Edinburgh and the owner, Peter Tucker, is incredibly accommodating and welcoming. There were four of us, including two teenage girls, and we will never want to stay anywhere else in Edinburgh.

We spent 4 nights in Edinburgh, and had to come up with lodging on short notice due to a change in travel plans. We were incredibly lucky to find Castle View apartment! The locaiton was perfect for sightseeing - an easy walk or bus ride to everything. The apartment has been recently renovated and was in excellent condition - it looked like we were the first guests to ever stay. Peter met us and spent plenty of time showing us how everything worked and also answered all of our questions about tours, sights, restaurants, shopping - essentially everything we needed to make the most of a short visit. My mother and I stayed at Castle View apt for 3 nights in august while on vacation in Edinburgh. It the nicest hotel/apt we stayed in during our trip.
The apartment was very nice with great attention paid to detail. Everything was immaculately clean (kitchen, dishes, silverware, carpet, walls, etc.) The bedding and towels were of very high quality. So it was really like moving into a model home for 3 nights. Check my other reviews and you will see that I am quite picky...
With 2 bedrooms, there was plenty of space for my mother and me and we were (finally) able to have a bit of privacy on the trip. In fact, when we got back to London we stayed in a hotel and it was actually somewhat of a letdown.
Staying at Peter's apartment is staying at your friends (squeaky clean and well decorated and fully stocked apartment). Peter has definitely gotten himself into the right business because he is an expert at preparing these places for guests. I would love to stay at one of his apartments in the future. -

The apartment was such a lovely greeting to us after almost 24 hours en route. Peter met us there to explain the workings and to introduce us to the little extras such as haggis and Scotch wisky. The apartment itself was lovely and well located especially with the help that Peter gave us in finding an apartment in the same building for some friends of ours that joined us. he also made some suggestions that we might not have considered for travel to the far northern parts of Scotland. While the apartment was very clean and beautifully decorated, pretty much perfect, it was the connection with Peter that made the difference between a lovey trip to Edinburgh and a really amazing trip discovering Scotland. Thank You Peter.

The location and the appointments for this apartment were better than advertised. Peter went out of his way to show us key features and usage. Two things might be considered for future enhancements. Because the bathroom sink is so small, the faucet might be better situated off to the side of the washbowl. The faucet takes up so much room, you cannot wash your face without hitting the spigot or splashing water onto the floor. Written instructions for the TV and the washing machine would have been helpful for reference since we forgot some of the things Peter told us. Finally, it should be emphasized as part of the online description that there are no lifts and that luggage must be hand-carried up several flights of steps. Older or mobility-restricted travelers should not discover this when they are at the doorstep.

The apartment was spotlessly clean, well decorated through-out and all mod-cons were provided.
The apartment is ideally situated, with Princes Street and the High Street within easy walking distance.
The welcoming dram of whisky and bit of shortbread were a welcome touch.
The only down-side was the lack of an immediate car-parking facility. The nearest NCP was a 5-minute walk from the flat and rather expensive.

Peter Tucker was very personable and helpful, and his apt rental was excellent. It is in a great location right in the centre of the city, within walking distance of lots of pubs/restaurants, shops, and attractions. The living room/diningroom faces the street, giving a great view of the castle and the street below, and the bedroom faces the interior, allowing for a quiet night's sleep.
The apt was very clean, and well equipped (full kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, WiFi),with a comfortable bed.
Mr Tucker provided a very nice welcome-pack of milk, butter, jam & croissants/pain au chocolat, as well as Scotch, coffee, tea & biscuits.
We thouroughly enjoyed our stay in this apt. -

Beautifully decorated, very well kept apartment in a lovely building. Perfect location near Grassmarket with views of the Castle. Quiet as well at night (and I was staying when the Fringe and International Festival was on!). Great to come back to at the end of the evening. Highly recommended - I'm going to try to book again for next year in august.

A friend had stayed in another of Peter Tucker's apartments last year - the wonderful eyrie that is Greyfriars attic - so I had an idea of what to expect. But Castle View apartment exceeded all expectations. It's not like any other self-catering accommodation I've ever been in - it feels more like a luxury boutique hotel. Decorated in shades of cream and taupe, with thick carpets, comfortable beds with lovely bedlinen, heavy curtains to block out the light and ensure a good night's sleep, fluffy towels and toiletries in the bathroom, it's a wonderful apartment.
Other places provide a 'welcome' pack for the first morning, but Peter takes it to the next level, with different breads, pastries, orange juice, butter, marmalade, tea and excellent coffee.
He has thought of everything and the apartment is incredibly well stocked: all the little vexations that normally accompany a self-catering holiday - like having to buy an entire box of washing powder, or a packet of salt, or a bottle of olive oil - are not a problem here. We made such great inroads on the complimentary single malt whisky that we wanted to replenish it, but Peter assured us that it was there to be enjoyed during our stay.
The apartment is spotlessly clean and It has everything you could possibly want, including a television with cable channels, iPod dock and very fast wi-fi.
The location is fantastic, on the edge of the Grassmarket, with a view of the castle and just 5 minutes' walk from the Traverse and Lyceum Theatres and the Usher Hall in one direction, and the castle and the Royal Mile in the other.
We travelled with two teenage girls, and the apartment was a perfect size for the four of us. We'll be back!

We stayed at the Castleview apartment in July and were very impressed with Peter the owner. He greeted us when we arrived, the apartment was very clean and cozy just like home. It was very stocked and Peter took the time to show us how things operated. The cupboards were well stocked with everything you needed if you choose to cook your meal at the apartment. I would highly recommend this place to anyone going there and we would definitely go back to that aparment.

A well designed apartment with great attention to detail and everything you could need; in a great location near the Grassmarket and within walking distance to all main attractions; clean, well presented and with lots of little 'extra' touches; plus a landlord who was willing to do check-in in the early hours of the morning when my flights were cancelled and I had to coach into Edinburgh. All in all, a very happy experience.

Peter Tucker, the apartment owner, maintained excellent contact with my wife and I both at time of booking and upon arrival in Edinburgh. While the building like most in the city is older and has a deep history, the apartment unit was modern with full kitchen, washroom and laundry facilities; the availability of the second bedroom was also a plus. Most outstanding though was the accomodation location so close to GrassMarket and its pubs and restaurants, the Royal Mile, music concert venues and the nearby grocery store.Everything was so close and easy to walk to. The view of Edinburgh Castle from the living room window was the icing on the cake for our 4 day stay. This was a great place for us to enjoy our first few days in Scotland as we commenced our vacation from Edinburgh to the Highlands and Hebrides.

I decided to choose Castle View apartment over a hotel as this was my first trip to Edinburgh, and having ancestral connection, I wanted to get a true feel for the city. As a solo traveler my fear was that with a hotel it would be too easy to 'hide' and therefore miss a lot.
I was sincerely welcomed upon arrival, given a tour of the apartment, and an overview of the neighborhood. I found the apartment to be very clean, well decorated, and extremely comfortable. Amenities such as a lovely single-malt were much appreciated. You could not ask for better management from booking right through to departure.
The location could not have been better and I was able to walk everywhere I needed to get to. The Grassmarket is comparable to Nyc's Greenwich Village and a varied selection of clubs, shops, restaurants and pubs are to be found there. As such, it is a high traffic area and a particular weekend destination. I personally did not find the noise level excessive or out of the ordinary for the area. Even on a Saturday night, things settled down relatively early, and all was fine. The building itself is very quiet and everyone I came across was friendly. I found the building to be very secure as well.
There is a grocery a short walk from the apartment as well as coffee bars and cafes. The kitchen is very well equipped and making meals was no problem. Though I will say that if you are american, please go over how to use the stove. Lol! Nice to relax in the evening and stare at a castle:)
I stayed at this location for 16 days and after about 5 felt as if I truly resided not just in the apartment, but in Edinburgh itself. The city is very welcoming and I had absolutely no problems while there. I had to remind myself that this was not my apartment a few times:) So the bottom line is that if you want a true experience of Edinburgh, comfortable and secure accommodations in a great and active part of the city, do not hesitate to book. -

My mother and I stayed at Castle View apt for 3 nights in august while on vacation in Edinburgh.
The apartment was very nice with great attention paid to detail. Everything was immaculately clean (kitchen, dishes, silverware, carpet, walls, etc.) The bedding and towels were of very high quality. So it was really like moving into a model home for 3 nights.
With 2 bedrooms, there was plenty of space for my mother and me and we were (finally) able to have a bit of privacy on the trip. In fact, we we got back to London we stayed in a hotel and it was a bit of a letdown.
Staying at Peter's apartment is staying at your friends (squeaky clean and well decorated and fully stocked apartment). Peter has definitely gotten himself into the right business because he is an expert at preparing these places for guests. I would love to stay at one of his apartments in the future. -

Left on 02/26/2011 for a stay in February 2011
I had never rented an apartment instead of a hotel before and was a little nervous about whether there might be unplesant surprises. The surprise was how wonderful Peter Tucker was and what a welcoming apartment he has created. The grassmarket area of Edinburgh is well-situated and pretty hip. The apartment was very, very clean, nicely furnished, and very comfortable. Peter Tucker was totally reliable in making reservations and making transfer of payment for the apartment to him. Peter greeted us at the apartment along with pastries, juice, milk, and a carafe with whiskey in it. The one issue of concern was street noise -- an issue noted by other reviewers. There's a lot of pub and club activity in the area and on Friday and Sat. nite is was quite noisy with a lot of shouting and singing outside of the building until 4 am. But for those of you who will be staying out late on weekends, you'll be joining the fun and won't be sleeping anyway!

Dear Greg,
Thanks very much for your very generous feedback and I'm delighted that you enjoyed your stay at Castle View. We take any reports of nuisance noise very seriously and are disappointed on your behalf that you were disturbed by weekend noise during your stay. However we would like to point out to other readers of this report that the noise described in this review is not normal. it is also unlawful and had we been aware of it at the time we would have reported the incident to the police.
Last November we had scheduled the installation of double glazing and drapes with soundscreening in the second bedroom (again, for the benefit of other readers, the second bedroom overlooks the road and so is the room affected by the noise in this guest's review: the main bedroom is quietly located to the rear of the building). This work had to be postponed due to the severe weather experienced in Edinburgh from November - January. I'm pleased to say that it will take place this coming week when the main bedroom and bathroom will also undergo upgrade work. We hope that this will enhance the apartment in general as well as deal with any noise issues in the second bedroom.
Many thanks again,
Peter. -

It is very well situated in the Grassmarket and in walking distance of all of the main attractions, shops, restaurants and pubs. Pete was there to show us round and gave a lot of great information about the flat and area. The apartment is finished to a very high standard and has everything you could need for a from a short break to a longer stay. We were very impressed with the personal little touches left by Pete for us such as a sample of local whiskey and milk and tea making essentials. The flat is fantastic, location brilliant, very warm welcome and everything you could want from a self contained apartment. If the windows were double glazed to reduce the noise and the blinds let in less light, we all would have slept a little better and it would have been the perfect accomodation for a great city exploring weekend away.

Hello Jabez, thanks for your lovely feedback. We are double glazing the sash and case windows in the front bedroom (which faces the street and which I'm assuming is the room that you are referring to) later this month and we have bought some lovely fabric which we are having made into curtains for both bedrooms - these will be ready and fitted within the next month. Hopefully this will address the points that you raise. Thanks again and best wishes from Edinburgh, Peter.

Our wonderful stay began with a warm welcome and chat with Peter Tucker. Not only was he interested in us and our plans, but he had many helpful suggestions, both written and verbal, which made our visit easier and more pleasant. We tried nearly all his recommendations for restaurants and pubs, and there wasn't one that disappointed us. The whiskey he left for a welcome drink and the refrigerator stocked for our first breakfast went way beyond our expectations!
Our party included me and my husband (both retired) and our adult son and daughter-in-law. All of us have traveled in other countries and agreed that this was our best lodging experience ever. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay in this apartment! It is comfortable, attractive, convenient, and well-furnished, and everything is in good working order. As my title says, we hope to return to Edinburgh so we can stay there again.
The location was perfect for getting around and seeing Edinburgh's sights. Since it is in a busy part of the city, it was to be expected that there would be some street noise at night. We found ear plugs sufficient to deal with that and recommend them to future visitors.
In closing, we feel very fortunate that we found this great apartment and that it was available during the time we visited Edinburgh. -

The apartment was wonderful, all the amenities one could ask for, the location sublime, easy walking distance to anything one might wish to do in Old Town, a handy Sainsbury just up the street. Waverley Station a 15 minute walk away.
Peter was so welcoming and helpful, the apartment top notch, crisp and clean, yet warm and inviting. Everything in perfect working order, the view so delightful. The extra personal touches were a real treat, a few essentials in the cupboard, some lovely scotch on the table. A very special stay we will remember always.

On the basis of the website images, I was expecting this apartment to be nice, but on arrival, all my expectations were blown out of the water. Unlike every other holiday apartment I've rented, Castle View is actually larger than it looks on the website!
The kitchen is well equipped, and Pete, the owner, provides some lovely supplies to get you started. In fact, Pete was fantastic in general - friendly and helpful every time we dealt with him.
The apartment is spacious, clean, well-supplied and fantastically located. There's two supermarkets in walking distance, and you can see Edinburgh Castle from the lounge room window! We were staying during august, and the Tattoo was on, so we saw fireworks over the castle every night, too.
We were staying in Edinburgh for the fringe festival, and this is a great apartment for this purpose - two bedrooms with comfortable double beds, a decent-sized bathroom, a great kitchen and a comfortable living room, with an electric fireplace for heating. And within walking distance of basically every major venue in the fringe.
We were there for a month, and I really think you could live in this apartment for a lot longer, and be just as comfortable as you would be in your own place. -

From the moment we arrived, Peter made us feel welcome in this lovely apartment. He showed us around and explained how to use the appliances, heating etc. There was a supply of scones, butter, jam, coffee, tea, juice and milk in the fridge for breakfast, and a decanter of malt whiskey and shortbread - a very welcoming detail! Peter was very helpful with local advice, he even looked up and texted us the number of a local car rental agent that gave us a great deal on the van we rented. The apartment was well furnished with high quality appliances a lovely fireplace and very comfortable beds & linen. Plenty of towels as well as shampoo, soaps and gels were available. It is very centrally located, a short walk from the Royal Mile and with a view of the Castle. There is a supermarket about 50m up the street, also plenty of pubs and restaurants close by, the apartment is quiet however. There are also 2 interesting used bookshops right below, where we stocked up on books on our last evening in town. I would highly recommend Castle View to anyone looking for central and good quality accommodation in Edinburgh. The only drawback I can think of is the 2 flights of rather steep stairs - there is no lift access and this might cause problems for people with limited mobility.

When we started our search for accomodation for a short-stay trip to Edinburgh, we had few expectations: our budget was modest and all we were after was a central two-bedroom accomodation with Wi-Fi. Castle View Apartment was an unexpected and delightful surprise! It is spacious enough for four people yet cosy, warm and welcoming; tastefully decorated, with plenty of storage space, Wi-Fi and a superb view of Edinburgh Castle. The beds are comfortable, the kitchen spacious and well-equipped and the single malt awaiting the guests is both plentiful and pleasant!
The apartment is located right in the centre of Edinburgh, close to shops, a Sainsbury's Local, attractions, pubs and restaurants; Princes Street, the Royal Mile and the Castle are a very short walk away.
(The only thing we wouldn't recommend is the Chinese takeaway restaurant a few doors away... mediocre to say the least!)
Peter Tucker was welcoming and convivial (and very patient despite the late hour when we got lost on our arrival).

I found this apartment through an internet search and was a bit hesitant at first since I don't always go by what other people write :-) The place had such good reviews that I decided to rent it. This was an international transaction, and Peter was thorough, polite and very quick at answering all mail inquiries.
When we arrived, Peter (the owner) met us at the door, showed us around, and was exceedingly gracious in every way. We loved the apartment! The amazing croissants and cheese in the fridge, along with a decanter of whiskey was an extra nice surprise. The apartment was spotless, with a beautiful view of the castle from the comfortable and well-furnished sitting room was a treat ... awesome to see the castle fireworks each night we were in!
The amenities could not be topped. There was an ipod/iphone stereo connection, videos, beautiful television, all new kitchen and very comfortable beds. The neighborhood felt safe, even late at night, and the apartment was near everything. We visited the Fringe festival, and for this, the apartment was perfectly situated. Not too noisy in the immediate area, but very close to the areas with all the action. We also saw the Royal Tattoo, which was basically just a three block walk to Edinburgh Castle.
I would recommend (and do!) this apartment to anyone. What I liked best was the management ... Peter Tucker is a wonderful person who goes above and beyond the call to ensure his guests are happy. There are no negatives about this place that I can think of.Response from Peter Tucker at edinburgh-holiday-lets.com - 02/09/2010
