We arrived Gordon place in early May and had stayed over for couple of nights. His place is awesome !! .. A Warm house complete with all facilities from towels to hot shower to TV and all , just like a home, nicely decorated. Just enought for 4 adults. Very comfy. Gordon is great too, despite is didnt get to meet him (sadly) but he still call up the house and check out on how we doing, very nice of him.
We didnt find any problem moving around as we have rent a car, but you can find buying for grocery and food very convinient.
Worth the price of stay! If i were to go back to Edinburgh, will definately look foward to stay in Gordon's house. -

My husband and I stayed in this comfortable apartment for 4 nights on a special anniversary trip. Gordon goes out of his way to make you feel welcome, even offering to pick us up from city center upon our arrival. Not only is there a breakfast basket provided, but the fridge is also stocked with several essentials. A grocery store (Sainsburys) is 5 minutes walk if you want to do your own cooking in the well-appointed kitchen. We slept wonderfully in the UK King-sized bed (it is closer to a us Queen size). To get to city center enter through the nearby gate into the breathtaking Holyrood Park. What views! You will find yourself on the Royal Mile within 15 minutes. We can whole-heartledly recommend this clean and inviting apartment. It is truly a great value for the money. Gordon is an excellent communicator and a real delight to work with!

BelgiumWonderful Stay in Edinburgh
Left on 04/19/2013 for a stay in April 2013
My family and I were in Edinburgh for a 4 day trip as I was participating in the Rock and Roll 1/2 Marathon that weekend.I was very interested in the apartment because of its proximity to Holyrood Park and the start and finish of the race.My children had a ball running all through the park and my husband and I enjoyed the stunning views of arthur's Seat and Salisbury Crag.Palace of Holyroodhouse,Holyrood abbey, Scottish Parliament, and the Royal Mile are all right there as well within very easy walkable distance. The owner left us phone numbers for a car service, a taxi service, and a bus schedule. The city itself is very manageable by foot and when we didn't walk we were able to get a taxi quickly and for a reasonable amount. The apartment itself was perfect for our family of four (myself, my husband, my children-age 12 and 9).Gordon, the owner, could not have done more to make our stay more pleasant or easy.We were able to make payment initially through Paypal (either in us dollars or pounds) and then were able to arrange with Gordon, once we arrived, how to pay the remaining amount. We were not fortunate enough to meet Gordon in person, as he was out of town, but we were able to contact him by phone when we needed to ask a question. He also called us to check in and make sure things were going well.Upon our arrival, we were very impressed to find fresh milk, eggs, yogurt, spring water in the fridge and coffee, snacks, bread, cereal in a basket on the kitchen table.Very thoughtful and very much appreciated. There were many other thoughtful touches...extra brand new toothbrushes in the bathroom should you have forgotten yours, as my husband did ;), fresh towels, sheets on the bed, iron, hair dryer, umbrellas, Dvd's, books, etc.Wonderful experience, highly recommend!

The place was sooo great! Super amazing, well stocked and wonderful home away from home experience. Gordon was very helpful and gave me step-by-step instructions on handling the key safe! Also, he stocked the kitchen with many basics and since we only stayed a few days we didn't even need to go to the market. He also ensured that we had a taste of the local Specialties- Irn Bru, Haggis, tea cakes etc. so yummy! There was nothing better than arriving after a long journey to such great accommodations. The flat is right next to Holyrood Park and you just walk across & are in the royal mile, super convenient. The rail station is also a few blocks away from the royal mile. Comfortable bed, warm, nice tv & DVD options. There is s witking phone, free wifi & access to a laptop. Really excellent and would recommend to everyone. Thank you Gordon!

This is a luxury 1 bed apartment with everything you could want for a weekend away. We stayed Friday u til Monday. Gordon sent direction and information via email before we arrived. Picked us up and drove us to the apartment. It's cosy, clean, welcoming and has very easy access to the city. We wanted for nothing as Gordon had even left some goodies in the fridge and a pot of soup made too! Just the thing for a snowy day! Couldn't ask for a nicer place to stay. Comes highly recommended. We'll definitely be back.

If there is any criticism to be made about Gordon's place it is that it is so full of homely furnishings and memorabellia that you could think you were at home rather than in a holiday apartment. The apartment is well appointed and comfortably furnished in a convenient location not far from the Royal Mile. The welcome food parcel awaiting us for our arrival was a nice touch. We garaged our hire car in the allotted space in the basement carpark and didn't use it again until our departure. Gordon kept in regular contact with us to ensure a great stay and was particularly helpful in advising us how to deal with a dental emergency we experienced. Gordon's pre-arrival communications were excellent. Thank you Gordon for facilitating a wonderful time in beautiful Edinburgh.

Perfect apartment in a quiet location yet we could walk to everything, the Royal Mile in one direction the city bus stop in the other. All the amenities were there, from full cooking utensils, to a computer with internet access, even movies and a dvd player. Gordon was helpful and gave great tips on how to see the area. There are lots of brochures and guide books to assist in your research of the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The bedroom was very comfortable and quiet and the bathroom was fully equipped with a tub and shower. We even used the washing machine and dryer, a great plus not to have laundry to bring home.

Right from the time we made the reservation online, the owner Gordon Lauder had been exceptionally responsive. Extremely helpful and offering help and assistance anticipating the needs of the potential renters. The access to this place can be a bit tricky and the street numbers and names are not clearly marked. We tried to depend on our GPS system but took a while and phone calls to Gordon to know where the apartment is.
Gordon had stocked up the refrigerator with the essentials and the kitchen is well equipped. The apartment is three flights up, so if the stairs are not a problem, it is good to be on that floor.
Though the location of this flat is very good: not too far from the center of the town, the views from the flat are not that great.Response from g Gordon - 11/05/2012

Thanks Gurdip , yes the views are. Open . And let light in . But as with all property the views Do come at a price . And if my Apartment was in the next street . Then I would have had to charge you about 40 /% more . So I say save and walk 1 min to Admire ....

Wish we had more time to enjoy this wonderful apartment and the beautiful city of Edinburgh...but not meant to be for this trip. I have to say, though, the apartment was wonderful! Lots of steps to lug luggage, but otherwise everything was fantastic. It's decorated so beautifully, and every space is maximized perfectly. I loved that there was Haggis in the fridge...maybe on another visit I'll be brave enough to try it! Gordon is a great, kind, and generous host! Always checked in to make sure everything was going well. Location was within easy walking distance to the bus stop, which was good because it got us everywhere. A good, central location to explore Edinburgh from.

The apartment is excellent: modern, spacious and comfortable. It is fitted out to a high standard, and a great deal of thought has been put into the needs and requirements of guests.
Very near the edge of Holyrood Park, and an easy walk to the Royal Mile, the apartment provided an excellent base from which to explore the city. In addition, the excellent Lothian bus service provided cheap and frequent transport when all the walking got too much.
Gordon could not have been more helpful or welcoming. This started from the moment I first made an enquiry about the property. Emails were always informative and friendly, nothing ever too much trouble.
I would stay here again without hesitation. -

Thanks Gordon for making our stay in Scotland extra special! We were so impressed by your lovely and comfortable flat and pleased that you had stocked it so well. We didn't need to visit the store once...except for wine and cheese to replenish supplies for our stay!! How nice it was to have a dishwasher and clothes washer and dryer. The flat was just as advertised! The location - near Holyrood Park - made it very convenient to get to the RR station and the historic areas. We appreciated your taking us to Rosslyn Chapel on our first day, making it an easy trip for two tired people! And, thanks for stopping at the mall so we could purchase a phone. We loved having use of the free Internet so we could contact friends and family during our stay. By the way, thanks for the bus information making the trip into Edinburgh from the airport smooth and for taking us from the station to the flat. Your further assistance when we needed to get to the top of the Royal Mile one day and then to the train station when we left was a huge help. Best of all, we were so happy to make the acquaintance of Josh - thanks for bringing him over! All in all, we consider the Scottish portion of vacation the most enjoyable due to your efforts Gordon and we heartily recommend your flat to anyone considering a stay in Edinburgh. Thank you so much! Wendy and Lynn

Left on 10/01/2011 for a stay in September 2011
From the beginning of our planning until we left, working with Gordon was a pleasure. We booked for 4 nights in September. The booking process was easy and he provided a great deal of information about Edinburgh and how to get to the apartment. As it turned out, we didn't need that because he kindly picked up up at the train station. The apartment is comfortable and well stocked and we especially appreciated the goodies he had waiting for us: breakfast items, sweets, wine - awesome. The first night he even dropped us off at a restaurant he likes so we didn't even have to worry about dinner since our train arrived in the early evening. It was crowded but his connection got us in promptly. Having the WiFi available was especially useful. We spent two very full days sightseeing in Edinburgh, following some of his suggestions. The city bus was quite convenient and we used it frequently. Our third day there we took the train to St. Andrews for the day - a very easy day trip which we enjoyed immensely. Finally, since we had an early flight out of Edinburgh, we used his car service to get to the airport - much easier than worrying about a taxi or shuttle at 5 a.m. Overall, the Edinburgh experience was terrific - we almost felt like we were visiting a distant relative or a friend of a friend. We would definitely stay with Gordon again and highly recommend his apartment.

Gordon's accomodations and his personal attention were above and beyond expectations. We have rented Vrbo properties in North america and have never had contact other than by phone or e-mail with the owners. Gordon had food basics available when we arrived including a chilled bottle of wine. Laundry and dish detergent was available for use. We felt no need to rush to the store immediately. The flat is very conveniently located. We had a very easy walk to the Royal Mile and made use of the adjacent Hollyrood park and arthur's Seat for walking, hiking and running--wonderful views from the top. It is also close to the city bus stop which we took to the station to catch the bus to St. Andrews. Gordon was also very helpful with advice on where to eat and attractions to see. His personal attention also included a drive to Rosslyn Chapel and then Edinburgh castle as well as a very appreciated ride on Sunday morning to Glasgow airport to pick up our rental car for the remainder of our trip. Thank you so much for everything Gordon. We really enjoyed the rest of our trip in Scotland. The Scottish people we dealt with were all very friendly and helpful. It made me proud to have been born in Glasgow. I am so glad that I finally was able to visit. Doreen, Greg and Karlie

MunichA very comfortable apartment in a beautiful city
Left on 05/01/2011 for a stay in April 2011
We very much enjoyed our stay at Gordon's apartment. Unlike the other reviewers, we didn't get to meet Gordon because he was off on a well-deserved holiday himself, but his directions were great, and we were able to find the apartment easily. And even though I mistakenly took a set of keys to the apartment home with me, Gordon was very understanding (thanks again!). As the title of the review says, the apartment is very comfortable and perfect for 2 to 4 people (one large bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room). It's decorated with high-quality furnishings and really feels like a home away from home - Gordon even supplies a laptop! That came in handy for booking tickets for Edinburgh Castle, so we didn't have to stand in line to buy tickets (it's the most visited pay-to-enter attraction in Scotland, so the lines can be very long!). A very nice extra is that Gordon had left breakfast cereal, milk, eggs, bread, fruit, etc. for us, so we didn't have to go out shopping right away. The location is very good - literally just steps away from beautiful Holyrood Park and about a ten-minute stroll to the bottom of the Royal Mile. Edinburgh is very compact and most of the sights are within walking distance of the apartment (we parked our car on the street outside when we arrived and didn't use it again until we had to drive to the airport on our last day). We had a whirl-wind visit (two days), but were able to see the castle, the National Museum of Scotland, and we also did a "murder mystery" tour with the Cadies and Witchery tour company (all very highly recommended). All in all, I would definitely recommend this apartment for visitors to Edinburgh (except people with mobility problems -- the apartment is on the third floor and there is no elevator). Thanks so much, Gordon!

This apartment is very cozy and comfortable-- great bed, slept better than I have in a long time! The biggest reason to stay here is Gordon, the amazing landlord. He picked me up at the train station, had the most delicious homemade soup waiting for me as well as eggs, bread, butter, yogurt, fruit, cookies (oops, I mean biscuits), cereal, milk and juice (and I'm sure I'm forgetting something). He called several times to make sure everything was fine, gave me a lift to new town, and on my last day took me sightseeing to Rosslyn Chapel and the railway bridge over the Forth (and would have taken me to Linlithgow, but I had to practice). He also took me to several stores in search of a carryall to help get my purchases home.
The location of the apartment is nice. It took me about 10 minutes to walk through the park to Holyrood and the bottom of the Royal Mile, but I'm short and not athletic. It is a beautiful walk, even in winter. There are always cabs around Holyrood/Parliament, so if you don't want to walk up the hill, you can find a ride there. As I said, I found the apartment very comfortable. Trains go by the bedroom window but they are not loud and didn't bother me. The laptop provided is very nice and helpful for contact back home and making plans for your stay.
I had trouble working the gas burners, but that was just me. There is a microwave and I used that for most things. I found everything I needed in the kitchen; never made it over to Sainsbury's, but it is not too far away. I highly, highly, recommend staying here! Thank you, Gordon! -

What a lovely surprise to have a few snacks already in the kitchen, enough for breakfast the next morn and a hot stew simmering in the crockpot when we arrived!
Gordon was gracious, thoughtful and always available. Before our arrival, he even emailed images to help us find our way. He also emailed me an image of my clan castle ruins when he found out we had plans to find it.
The condo is conveniently located - we not once took a cab or bus in Edinburgh. We walked everywhere, all the way up Calton Hill and the Royal Mile within a half hour max.

Gordon is an exceptional host. He provided wonderful local information. The flat is full of travel books, restaurant guides and great amenities. The flat is conveniently located just around the corner from Holyrood park, with a very short walk to arthur's Seat, a hiking hill with the most spectacular few of Edinburgh. There is a pass through tunnel to a major street with convenient bus service. Only 3GBP for an all day pass. A few short 10 min walk to a major grocery store and little shopping center (where I picked up an extra suitcase to take home all my Scotland treasures). The flat has great WiFI to stay in touch or conduct business. Includes a small DVD collection for those rainy days. Thanks to Gordon for stocking the refrigerator, so I started my journey with cold water and full breakfast food. Gordon covers all the little details including umbrellas, instruction cards (I'm from N. America and the compact washer was a mystery to me), and phone numbers (taxis, take out). It was nice to have a LaN line phone to make local calls for reservations and for taxi pick up. It's a great flat, excellent value for the cost. Gordon is a wonderful hot and added so much to my stay. I toured Rosslyn Chapel, which I didn't even have my plan and never realised it was so close. The flat is also only a short distance to the beach. I'd definitely stay here again!

As a first time visitor to Edinburgh, this apartment turned out to be one of our highlights! It was very comfortable, clean, well maintained and quiet...one of our requirements as my husband is a very light sleeper! Gordon was an excellent host, meeting us at the station (although we missed him!) and once at the apartment giving us information regarding the apartment, visiting Edinburgh and even offering to chauffeur us to Rosslyn Chapel if we so desired. But the big surprise was the food and beverages he provided to help get us through the first day or so, eliminating the need to rush out to the grocer! Our stay in the apartment was lovely. It's in the area of Holyroodhouse and Holyrood Park and within easy walking distance to the Royal Mile. This is a third floor walkup with no lift which was not a problem for us, but could be for some. The kitchen was well equipped if eating meals in is your choice...not me! Where's the haggas? The bath (once we got the hang of the shower!) was nice with plenty of towels and hot water. The bed was comfy and the living room furniture very cozy and inviting after a tiring day of sighseeing! We especially enjoyed the chilled wine and snacks provided after our trip up to arthur's Seat...a wonderful way to relax! All said and done, Edinburgh was a surprise and a place we would like to go back to one day and, if available, this apartment is where we would like to stay!
