      good location

Left on 06/11/2012 for a stay in June 2012

we stayed over the weekend in this apartment... it fitted in perfectly for our needs .. it is spacious and location for city center is excellent... previous comments regarding it being dirty are a little harsh...

if i had an issue i would have two... heating was on all the time and when we managed to turn it off you still had the arger oven to contend with... however i suppose you would welcome the heat in a typical Edinburgh summer...

on a more serious note we had two lots of couples (including a baby) and three single people sharing facilities... downstairs bathroom was nice but the bath only had a hand held shower attachment with no shower curtain... so all 7 of us were trying to use the one shower room... a massive plus would be a shower curtain and and somewhere to hang shower head...

otherwise we loved apartment... very comfortable...

      Proceed with caution

Left on 02/21/2012 for a stay in December 2011

I stayed at this property with my family and my sister's family for a week over the New Years period 2011/2012 and unfortunately we were the very first guests to stay at this property. We asked the agents 'Edinburgh Holiday accommodation' www.edinburgh-holiday-accommodation.co.uk if this house was lived in and it was confirmed the owners had moved out and no longer lived there. It was quite obvious that the house was lived in and that the owners were unaware of the quality of cleanliness required to offer this as a high-end holiday let (we paid £2000 for the week we were there - so not a budget rental by any standards).

We contacted the agency the next morning and said there were too many items (see list below) for us to deal with the owner directly as we did not want to spend our holiday liaising with the owner for cleaners to come in, shower screens to be fitted, sofas and carpets to be dry-cleaned. We said we would rather take a reduction in rent to reflect the true standard of the property. The agents forwarded our list of polite (not rude let me emphasize) suggestions as to why the house was not up to scratch to the owner. The agents informed us they took the booking and money only and that as it was not a managed property were not in the position to rectify the situation themselves.

The owner received our email and was furious - she left two rude voicemail messages on my mobile and my husbands (we were out at the Festival of Light which is great by the way - and did not get them until later) and upon arriving back at the flat the phone was ringing off the hook. My husband answered and received a barrage of abuse from the owner saying we were so rude for contacting the agent not her, that she (ironically) was very unhappy with us and that we were welcome to leave if we didn't like it and that we were "scammers" that went into properties and tried to get a reduction in rent. This was all shouted down the phone (my sister and I could hear her from the other side of the room) and my husband calmed her down, told her we didn't want her money and tried to get off the phone as soon as he could - realising there was no reasoning with someone who would speak to him like that. Towards the end of the phone call it must be said she had calmed down a little and said she was sorry it didn't meet our expectations but she obviously still felt we were in the wrong.

We rang the agent the next day who were shocked at what had happened- they came around and agreed with all of our observations and stated they did give the owner a list of things required to rent the property but had not come back since to check the list of suggestions had been carried out - therefore we were the unfortunate guinea pigs. We asked they not take the matter any further with the owner as we were worried she was acting irrationally and may turn up at the house and abuse us further and decided we would live and learn. I half expected the owner to ring and apologise for her behaviour the next day but this never happened. The agents were lovely when they came around but at the end of the day they could have refunded us their booking fee as a show of good faith for never checking the property.

We felt the owner did not understand fully we were paying clients - not simply guests in her home and that some serious hard work was required before renting out her home.

Here are a list of some of the things we found at the property:
      - dirty saucepans
-dirty cushions on the sofa and dirty sofa covers that needed thorough dry-cleaning
      - dirty carpets that needed professional cleaning
      - the smell of dog in the house and dog hairs evident
      - no pillow or mattress protectors and old yellowing pillows the family clearly slept on (some sheets were stained)
      - the glass shower screen upstairs had been removed and not replaced - water went everywhere. In addition no plug for the downstairs bath (other plugs in the house would not fit it either).
      - filthy saucepans, dirty cutlery, food still in the freezer
      - one of the advertised rooms (the study/child's room) locked up and no advertised clothes dryer
      - nowhere to hang coats or place shoes on arrival
      - dirty kitchen chairs, message boards in childrens' rooms full of personal details, cupboards not wiped out for guests clothes, dusty faux flowers, dirty windows, stickers on childrens' doors, walls not wiped, furniture not dusted or polished.

      On the plus side:
The lady who met us and showed us into the house was lovely (an employee of the owner I think and many thanks to her for putting our Tesco shopping delivery away while were delayed).
The house is in a great location and the furnishings themselves would be nice if they were clean.

      Edinburgh Holiday Accommodation

      Manager

EHA has been working with the owner of Nelson Street to address the teething problems mentioned above - Lisa has been very helpful and very committed to reaching the required standards of cleanliness and customer service. We recently revisted the property and I am pleased to report that the accommodation was in very good order.
We contacted the guests who stayed in Neslon Street earlier in February to check their experience of the accommodation and they were delighted with the apartment. I am hoping that they will leave a review on Flipkey in the near furture
