Description from the manager
This charming, unusual apartment forms part of the old Craigwell Brewery, which was established in 1822 and beautifully converted in 1980, winning an RIB Architect Award for the development. On the 1st floor, this apartment has its own distinctive character and is well presented and comfortably furnished, perfect for a family holiday. There is a shared garden which leads up to the Burns Monument at the top of the (steep) stairs. This is well worth the climb as the views are magnificent over the Edinburgh skyline to Holyrood. There is private parking at the property.
Nether Craigwell is situated off Calton Road and under a 10 minute walk...Read more

southportGood location if you don't have a car
Left on 03/21/2013 for a stay in February 2013
This apartment was comfortable and situated just a two minute walk from Holyrood palace and the parliament. It was a pleasant walk into the centre and there is a Tesco metro nearby and pubs. However the second bedroom is small and the bunks unsuitable for children over primary school age (they don't fit).

AlstonGreat Location and comfortable flat in a lovely city with plenty
Left on 09/28/2012 for a stay in September 2012
This flat in Nether Craigwell is a fantastic location from which to explore Scotland's Capital. 100 metres from the Royal Mile, the Scottish Parliament, and Holyrood palace means that you are staying right amongst the action. You really don't need to drive anywhere once you've arrived. and it is only 300 metres from Waverley Station, so transport links are great too.
We stayed just after the Edinburgh Festival, and the city was still buzzing, especially on the Sunday night with the post festival fireworks. A real treat for all.
The flat was easy to find given the instructions and a sat nav, but parking could be difficult, as the allocated space was often occupied, although we never failed to park within the courtyard.
Once inside, the flat was warm and comfortable; not luxurious, but given the rental price, it was exactly as we would expect. One or two minus points for cleanliness, but nothing that a quick wipe over didn't solve, and certainly not "dirty". On the minus side again, the inventory certainly needs updating, as there were items listed that were not present. However, what was there was perfectly adequate for a family of four. That said, the flat was perfectly suited to the needs of our young children and ourselves, and the availability of some basic provisions, and cleaning equipment negated the usual chore of buying everthing from scratch.
We spent a very happy week at Nether Craigwell, and didn't get close to seeing all that we we could have done in the week, so it could be that we would return in the future. -

BarrowfordBrilliant location.
Left on 06/27/2012 for a stay in June 2012
This apartment is just around the corner from the royal mile and Holyrood Palace. Loads of fab eateries within easy walking distance. That's the good part! The accommodation is a little basic and in my opinion needs a deep clean. The bathroom tiles need some attention and the whole place would benefit from freshening up. That said, the location made up for the slight disappointment we felt on arriva at the apartment.

Left on 06/19/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We enjoyed our stay at Nether Craigwell very much. I liked that the apartment is in a converted brewery built in 1822. The location was convenient to Waverly Station, Holyrood Palace, Calton Hill, and High Street. We were able to walk everywhere and didn't need a car to see most of the historical sights in the area. The apartment was very comfortable, private, and quiet. There wasn't internet access but there is a Starbucks close by. We will definitely stay here again!

On arrival we had to clean then make our beds. Never had to do this in 25 years of holiday rentals, usually 2 to 3 times a year. Kettle lid was broken and dangerous as was oven door. Have used Mackay's agency in the past with similar results. Didn't complain to agency as they aren't interested. I did register a complaint with caretaker.
The location is brilliant and with parking it makes a good base to visit Edinburgh. We had wonderful weather when we were there so still enjoyed our holiday. Would hesitate before using Mackay's agency and this accomodation again.Response from Mackay's Agency - 05/30/2012

The flat is well placed, in easy walking distance of the station and both the Old and New Towns, yet in a quiet location. The keyholder is particularly helpful.

Left on 10/09/2010 for a stay in April 2008
This compact apartment is in a fantastic location near Holyrood Palace and the Scottish parliament with the advantage of a private garden and parking. Although situated in a quiet courtyard it is within easy reach of all sites of historic interest, shops, pubs, restaurants, main bus routes and the Royal Mile. We found the apartment clean and warm with everything we required to ensure a successful stay.
