Eastcraig Cottage is in a great location with great views of Edinburgh. Easy to get to centre of Edinburgh by bus and to Pentland Hills/outskirts by car. Located on quiet lane with plenty of parking.
Plenty of room inside to relax.
Great for kids - my little boy loved the toy cars. -

Left on 11/14/2012 for a stay in October 2012
A very nice and absolutely clean cottage in a good location. Easily accessible with good supporting infrastructure, it is surprisingly quiet.
Booking, paying and entering we as easy as it can be and thanks to our lovely host Mrs. Mallon, who provided us with a good range of welcome supplies, we even had a proper breakfast the next morning.
Given the absolutely reasonable price there are only two conclusions possible to draw:
The title says it all and
the next vacation is already in preparation.Response from Gertrud Mallon - 11/15/2012

Thank you, Mario, great to hear that you enjoyed our cottage. It was really nice to meet you all, too. Just in case you want to base yourselves in Fife on your next trip to Scotland, I manage an apartment in Aberdour. I think you would love that location, too. Take a look at www.selfcateringAberdour.wikispaces.com.

Lovely apartment. It contained everything we needed for ourselves and our two invalid parents travelling with us. Gertrud made sure via phone and email that we had everything we needed to find the place and to gain entry. It was a warm comfortable house and we will definately recommend it. Location is good, not too close to the main city that you are bothered by noise and traffic, but close enough to be accessible. Overall 5 star rating.

Family holiday to visit Edinburgh during the Festival. Access easy via key safe, cottage had small but welcome supplies of fresh milk, tea, butter, bread, also full range of herbs and oil for posh cooking (if needed!).
Facilities good (though note just one bathroom). Beds comfortable etc.
Location very good - direct and regular bus service into city centre (or walk if you really fit!). Also nature reserve just along the road. Were able to eat outside in yard/small garden.
Going back again, so must have liked it(!)Response from Gertrud Mallon - 10/24/2012

Aviano ItalyAmazing accommodation in a beautiful city
Left on 08/06/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Our stay in this cottage was exquisite. We were welcomed with a treasure hunt for the kiddos which really made them happy. We had a wonderful time sightseeing around Edinburgh. The cottage is a very short walk from the bus lines which take you right into city center and on the Royal Mile. The rooms are beautiful and the beds are comfortable. We loved that there were some snacks and beverages waiting for us so we didn't have to worry about running out and getting provisions, which, if we did, the grocery store is a short walk away as well. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking to stay in Edinburgh. I know it may seem bloated, but this cottage deserves the rating. We were on a european adventure and stayed in 7 different countries and 6 of those were in rentals. This was the best rental of them all. The only inconvenience was that the bathroom is downstairs, so in the middle of the night you had to walk downstairs to use the toilet.
Response from Gertrud Mallon - 08/07/2012
Owner
Thank you so much for the review. It's great to hear you enjoyed your time at our cottage and in Edinburgh. We would love to welcome you back.
As for the bathroom, yes, we realise that this is a draw-back but as the cottage is over a hundred years old there is not much we can do about that.
We look forward to welcoming you back some time.

Left on 06/03/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We stayed here for 4 nights whilst i ran the Edinburgh marathon, upon arrival i was apprehensive about the location as it seemed a way out of the city center. But once we got use to the bus routes and where our local shops, etc were - we actually found the location to be perfect for us really - 5-10min bus journey right into the city center from the bus stop less than 1 minute away. If you prefer the peace and quiet but want to have easy access to the city then this is the place for you.
Onto the actual house, it is a very quaint house, with plenty of room - there were 6 + baby in our party and at no point did it feel like we were getting on top of each other. Everything worked at expected which allowed us to have a very comfortable stay.Response from Gertrud Mallon - 06/04/2012
Owner
Thanks, Mark. Well done for doing the Marathon. We hope to welcome you back to Edinburgh for the next one! Gertrud

EdinburghSnug in the snowy city
Left on 02/27/2012 for a stay in November 2010
We - 2 adults and 3 children (10, 8 and 5) - had to move out of our house for major building works and we stayed here for 6 weeks in November and December. The house was warm and well appointed and we were very comfortable, even though there was deep snow outside for almost our entire stay. We were working and the children were at school and we took a lot of stuff with us (including computer etc), which the house absorbed without too much trouble, so the normal holiday traveller is likely to have plenty of room, though it is a cottage and the rooms themselves are not large.
There is a rear garden (with outside furniture) - given the conditions we made almost no use of this!
The location is very unusual, feeling almost rural and with superb views, with the walks to the Hermitage of Braid and the Braid Hill on your doorstep. However, if you turn the other way it's only a few minutes' walk to Cameron Toll (a major shopping centre) and you can jump on a bus and be in Edinburgh city centre in 15 minutes.
Gertrud was very helpful and she dealt very promptly with a couple of minor issues.
This would be a lovely place to stay for a proper holiday!Response from Gertrud Mallon - 02/28/2012
Owner
Thanks, Bob. Hope you are well settled again in your home.

The service was efficient, courteous and friendly. The whole family,
(young teenage girl, two boys in late teens, early twenties and us, the parents,) appreciated and enjoyed the home and environment. The house is well equipped and can be made cosy very quickly when cold. (We visited for New Year)
Close to bus stop and frequent service. We loved the walks and views. Struggled a bit with the shower. We would definitely visit again and will return in spring or summer sometime. Ideal for the Xmas period (and visiting RosslynChapel.) -

Left on 08/18/2011 for a stay in August 2011
Very easy access on arrival and the place was spotlessly clean. It has all the conveniences of a 'lived in' house, such as hooks on the back of doors and a towel rail convenient for the shower. The cottage proved an ideal base for our trip to the Edinburgh Festival and a nice warm place to spend time playing games, watching dvds etc when relaxing and avoiding the rain! The owner was very quick to respond to any queries we had.

FlipKey has translated this review - top is the English version and below is the original German review.
*Translated* The completely renovated last year, over 100 year old stone cottage is minutes to about 7. Bus ride from the city center. The bus station (it take 4 bus lines) is about 3 minutes. You have the fare (1.20) have exactly, it is not changed. Cheaper you can take the day pass (about 3 pounds) of it as you like with one hop-off. There are 3 bedrooms with two beds, a bathroom, kitchen (fully equipped), dining room and living room overlooking the golf course, and a small garden.
From the airport by taxi (20 pounds-the hostess gave us pre-ordered the taxi and it has been waiting for us at 23.00) is about 20 minutes to the house. The hostess Gertrude speaks German, can thus be obtained very easily from their information. The house is very quiet compared to the golf course in a blind road.
Since we arrived only at night and therefore could buy no more Gertrud was so nice and has bought us for breakfast even bread, butter, cheese, ham and milk.
As each year are celebrated in August the Edinburgh Festival, where street artists from around the world for free on the Royal Mile and in div. Parks show their skills, we were cheap (donation after the performance in the hat) entertained.
All newly renovated, new beds and mattress, everything clean and tidy. Towels, hair dryer available, fully equipped kitchen - even microwave.
*Original* Das im letzten Jahr vollkommen renovierte über 100 Jahre alte Steincottage liegt etwa 7 min. Busfahrt vom Stadtzentrum entfernt.
