I had a wonderful experience at Edisto and would do it again. The location is excellent and the area is just conducive to relaxing. The house was very accommodating for my family and had all the needed amenities.
Things that would have made the place even better: I would have liked to have had better light blocking blinds in the rooms facing the ocean and sunrise, so I could sleep in later. The hot water heater is set too high for kids as you could easily scald yourself. The washing machine water lines are reversed, but this is an easy fix; but just know not to take a shower while the machine is running or even shortly after as there will be no hot water.Response from The Atwood Agency - 04/01/2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our time. The house was comfortable and all the amenities were in good condition. The water, of course, would be our only complaint, but we understood this is an issue for the areas water supply and nothing to do with the house. The did have a water purifier which helped. Overall had a fantastic experience!!

This house has a great layout and the rooms are spacious. The kitchen has everything needed. However, the dining chairs and living area seating are just plain worn out. Our visit was over Thanksgiving and with the shorter days more time was spent inside the house and the quality of the furniture left alot to be desired. Otherwise....Great!!

After staying in multiple locations along the coast, this is the most beautiful beach we have been to. Millions of seashells and clean sand. The house, not so much. It was surface clean. It was the deeper cleaning that was much in need such as cabinet handles, sides of the refrigerator, trash can, counter top appliances. The sofa, loveseat and chair were filthy and you sank to the bottom on the sofa. We had extra linens, so we covered them otherwise we would have been out shopping for something to put on them; they were disgusting. The bedrooms were clean and nice and for the most part, so were the bathrooms. There was painting that needed done. The porch was missing spindles making it very dangerous with the large opening in 4 places. Also some of the spindles were loose only on the bottom, so if they were pushed against, they gave out. I called the company on Monday and they said someone would be out on Monday afternoon or Tuesday. No one ever showed up.The spindles that were missing were sitting in the sand below. We took nylon rope and put it along the spindles crossing it where there were large spaces and securing the loose ones. I saw that someone had mentioned this problem in an earlier review, but I thought the problem would have been fixed by now. The city water is salty. They said it is safe to drink, but yeach! We bought water to drink and I also used it to wash my hair. If you had containers, you could get free water at the town hall. The salty water caused issues with the appearances of anything that the water touched, but I can't blame the company for that, but it was still disgusting. It is an old island and so as I talked to others, most of the houses appeared dilapidated. As far as restuarants, try them all even if your not sure by the outside appearance. We ate a lot of very good food. Be sure to try the Sea Cow! Their desserts are great!

The bathroom on the left needs a new shower curtain liner. The shower on the right has a good bit of water damage around the tub. The recliner sofa (not the sleeper sofa) appears to be broken. The stove top always looks like it is "on" and some of the eyes don't connect properly.

The property needs new towels and liens. There is also a dripping ceiling vent in great room thats drops water on ur head while sitting the recliner. The frigid does not cool properly due to the temperature numbers are rubbed off and cant tell temperature setting. Washer and drier do not work properly.

We really enjoyed our stay at Shore Thing. It's proximity to the beach and to the state park were definite pluses. There was a leak dripping in the carport from one of the bathrooms above but the rental company quickly had it addressed. The house was clean and the beds were comfy. We will be back!

This is the best location on the beach if you like to walk everywhere! Walking distance to several restaurants, shops and grocery store. The house is directly on the beach so no walk over the dunes. Very convenient if you have kids :) the only reason I didn't give 5 stars across the board is because a water pipe burst in the middle of the night and flooded the entire left side of the home. We had to wake the kids and move to another home. The property management was very professional and helpful with the move down the beach. Luckily, there was another comparable home available ocean front that we ended up staying the remainder of our stay. I would stay here again and will be renting from Atwood Vacations again for sure! I highly recommend them.

My husband passed away in May 2011. My family and myself did not want to stay home for Christmas. This house felt like being home. The kitchen was perfect and had all the conveniences of home. We were very impressed with the entire house. I would recommend this house to anyone that wants to feel like being home!

This is the second year staying at this house and we hope to stay many more. It is a great property with a great location and view. I wish some of the back deck boards would be replaced and the furniture be a little updated. It's nice but a little worn

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the beach. A Shore Thing was immaculately clean (kudos to your cleaning staff). We did our best to leave it very tidy and ready for them to do general cleaning for the next stay. There were only a couple of problems with
the property and one of those is truly a safety issue. First the non-safety issue. The desk chair in the family room is broken. Someone had to sit at the desk most of the time so we could all have seating in the family room and we had to place the desk chair
against the desk to keep it from falling backwards. From the appearance I would guess that someone leaned back too far in the chair and broke it. It was that way when we arrived. I was the first person to sit in it and when I leaned back I almost hit the floor.The
safety issue is with the spacing of the rails on the deck facing the ocean. We had our granddaughter with us. She is 19 months old and we had to stand in front of her at all times when on the deck because the railings are spaced too far apart and she could
have fallen through. At one point she reached to put her hand on one of the rails, missed it and her body started going sideways between two rails. Also, one of the railings was missing and had not been replaced. Instead, a plastic outdoor side table had been
set in front of the large hole (an open space over a foot wide. Not a good idea at all since our granddaughter could have easily picked up that lightweight table herself. We ended up moving rocking chairs against the railings to keep her away from them. It
made for a not so comfortable and enjoyable time on the deck with the family since we could not allow her to be up playing without someone beside her at all times. The spacing for the rails do not meet code and the missing rail really needs to be replaced
before a child falls through. We didn't even notice it was missing until about the second day ourselves. Not complaining, just informing. We had an absolute -

The house was for the most part clean, however our sheets for 2 of the beds had a few stains on them. One of the bed comforters (the bedroom my husband and I slept on) actually looked as though it had a few blood stains on it, so we didn't use it) Also,
once again the air conditioning wasn't working when we got there and we had a 5 wk old baby w/us this year so it was very hot. We had issues w/the air last year as well. Lastly, the porch deck on the beach side is missing a post, which makes a VERY wide gap.
I have a 2 yr old and I just happened to see it when he was only a few ft away from it while we were on the deck. If I hadn't, he could've fallen through it because it was that wide of a gap. For safety purposes this needs to be fixed. We still like this house
so I am not giving a bad rating, it's just that these are things that I felt needed to be brought to your attention so that you can let the owners know. They may need to invest in a NEW air conditioner and PLEASE FIX THE POST ON THE BEACH SIDE DECK. Thank

We had a great time - everything was great. The mattresses were pretty hard but other than that, everything was great. The kitchen had been updated some and we had all the cookware we needed. The house was really clean.

Wow! What a great time we had in Edisto Island. The house was clean, prepared, and fully equipped in the kitchen! The only complaint was the towels provided were inadequate (too thin and small) so next time we'll take our own bath towels. However, the house is in great shape! There is ample room and our grandchildren loved having a tv in every bedroom! We so enjoyed the porches - both the front toward the beach and the screened-in porch for barbequing! We'll be back!

Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay. I knew it was an older unit, so, the general condition of property was good. I mean the bathrooms were dated, but we would certainly come back to it again. The one thing that I didn't care for was the 'envelope' left for us from the cleaning service. I mean, standard cleaning practices are included in the rental price and if the people who rented the property prior to us left it a mess, then monies should comes out of their deposit money, don't ask me for a tip because I found the property clean, and we always leave a property cleaned and usually vacuumed.
I have rented many homes, and this is the first time I have come across this.
I did not mean to insult the cleaning service, but I do expect a property to be clean when we arrive. Again, we would not hesitate to return to A Shore Thing.Response from The Atwood Agency - 06/07/2011

The kitchen is not as well stocked with supplies as other houses I have stayed in on Edisto; but the most annoying part was that the dvd player did not work, nor did one of the bedroom tvs, and I called 3 times to get someone over. Nobody showed up, despite having talked to a live-person who said he would be over within the hour.

We do love this house because of the location and because it has a lot of room in it. However, all of the beds are very uncomfortable and we had a problem with the A/C not seeming to cool as it should. Other than that, it was a great stay and we will be back next year.

We have stayed in this house 2 years now and love it. It is perfect for our small group of 6-8. The location is wonderful for getting to the grocery and convenience store by bike, etc. I wish the pier was better. We were told by the owners that it was going to be extended 2 years ago and were disappointed when we arrived to find the little short pier still there (you sure can't fish from that). We are so close to the beach, it is great.

The air conditioner didn't seem to cool as much as it should on a couple of the days, and also their were sea shells on 1 of the beds. There was a broken rocking chair on the back porch when we got there, and the door handle to the sliding glass door was broken off and what was left was very loose. We had to open and close the door by placing our hand on the glass itself and pushing it. Other than those few things......we had a GREAT stay!!!!! We booked again for next year!!! :)
