When we arrived on Saturday with groceries and luggage we were prepare to move in and we were tired and planned to have supper there. However, we found the house completely torn apart and had to find a restaurant for supper. After we called we were told the people installing the flooring would finish, put things back and come back after we left. And they did, but we ended up moving in about three hours later than we had planned. However, the workman did the bathroom one day when we were gone all day. I would recommend a stay only in warmer weather. It was cold even with the space heaters. We did not use the lower bed room or bathroom because it was so cold.

Beverly,Thank you for your review. We appreciate your feedback. We are so sorry about your experience. We have the property ready, cleaned, and inspected 24 hour before your arrival. The owner's personal maintenance man had his weekends mixed up. We worked as fast as possible so that you could have a speedy check in. We understand your frustrations. We hope that you will return for a warmer spring week on Edisto.Regards,Atwood Vacations Team

Glass House is my ideal of a beach cottage--small and homey. The view is spectacular. The beach is great. The weather for the two weeks I was there in October could not have been better. The first week, my daughter and four grandchildren were with me. They had a wonderful time playing on the beach and in the water. The second week, I stayed alone and enjoyed the tranquility. The Wifi service and flat-screen TV were much appreciated. The appliances are all up-to-date and in working order. I would definitely choose to stay here again.

This house has window-unit air conditioners, and the weather was unseasonably warm during our early Oct. week. One of the units would not come on, so I called Atwood. I was VERY impressed with how quickly they got this resolved, and they were very friendly.

Decatur, TN, United StatesNice little villa with character for family or couple
Left on 09/06/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Location and Comfort were as expected and according to the price. Edisto Beach itself and the endless row of beautiful villas is the attraction.
Some details to improve:
The kitchen utensils are a wild array of brands and types and sizes. Coffee Machine badly corroded but working. One bed was broken down, but was repaired within 1 hour after arrival.
The litte piece of bushland between house and see was quite dirty and the plants grew wild. It would make a much better impression if it was taken care of like at the other adjacent villas.
Otherwise it was a unique experience and a wonderful week at a very special place. -

Asheville, NC, United StatesDream Cottage by the Sea
Left on 05/30/2012 for a stay in May 2012
This charming little home is nestled in a lush strip of dune, with a friendly pathway directly the ocean. Its humble exterior is perfect camouflage: most drivers won't even see it for its oversized neighbors. Indoors we found a cozy, well-lit, spotless, and clearly a well-loved home space. Every amenity is there (except a dishwasher, so evening dish-washing became a happy ritual of our stay), and the tiny kitchen is filled with light and lined with all the conveniences. The dining corner offers a glass-on-rattan table and rattan chairs, comfy but modern, with a corner cubby filled with nice dishware. The living corner is cozy and colorful, old-fashioned "family style" except for the state-of-the-art flat screen TV and WiFi. The queen & king bedrooms upstairs are roomy and comfy. Two singles downstairs have a half-bath and powerful a.c., but I ended up happiest sleeping in the "day room," a wide enclosed porch facing the ocean, with two lovely day/night beds on one end. The other end, a farm-style wooden table with six chairs, was our preferred dining space. I cooked in every night, finding all I needed in the kitchen. The window a.c. units were plenty with the ceiling fans. The decor and color were cheerful. Most of the interior beadboard is painted light gold, inviting window light to stay but not overwhelm. And beyond the day room is the generous back deck overlooking the see, with ample wooden furnishings, plus lots of beach accessories (chairs, boogie boards) stashed below. I fell in love with it when friends stayed here last year, convincing me it was the place for our special stay. It will be my number one choice from now on. A dream come true.

Brookline, MA, United StatesGlass House: Mold in the Lower Room
Left on 03/13/2012 for a stay in March 2012
We've stayed in this property many times now and are planning on staying again this Summer. We've never had any real problems with the condition of the house.
However, this time, we found the lower room of the house (the only one on ground level) to be in an unlivable condition because of a significant amount of mold growing there. The chest of drawers is covered in mold, and the room is damp and musty. Also, the bathroom door in this room will not close. Needless to say, the condition of the room makes it a health hazard. Our guest had to sleep upstairs on the couch because of this problem, and we'd like it addressed as soon as possible.
I had planned on communicating this to the Atwood staff in person, but we left the property on Sunday morning when the Atwood office was closed.
Sincerely,
Matthew Fairman -

I recently had the pleasure of spending the week of New Years in The Glass House on Edisto Island. I was visiting my family in Athens Ga. for the first time having moved to Australia 2 years ago. I wanted to treat my parents to a comfortable trip to the ocean. We had a lovely time enjoying the perfect weather and roar of the sea from the back porch. I choose to sleep in the sun room on the back of the house and was rewarded every morning with a beautiful sunrise.
The house was clean, the neighbours were quiet and the shower had great water pressure. Needless to say we enjoyed our stay at the Glass House and hope to return to enjoy it again. Thank you. -
Fredericksburg, VA, United StatesWinter Stay
Left on 12/29/2011 for a stay in December 2011
The Glass House is an older home with a beautiful view. The sleeping porch / dining room was our favorite place. There was an electrical problem with the house our first 2 days which Atwood was very pro-active in fixing. The house is heated with plug in radiators, not central heating, so I believe I would prefer staying spring through fall. I did love the house, the view, the porch, and the deck. I hope Edisto will protect the older homes on the island. They are what give it its character. Give the Glass House a try, but if you choose winter bring an electric blanket!

Overall our visit to Edisto was positive. We loved the island and Glass House is in an excellent location; beach front is always a plus. Glass House is an older beach house and we understand that, but there's no excuse for it not being clean. Dust was on the tables, blinds, ceiling fans. Looking through the glass topped dining table and seeing an inch of dust makes one lose their appetite. Dirt was caked in corners of floors. Also, it should be noted that there is NO central heat. When the outside temp. falls into the 30's, Glass House is COLD!the portable heaters don't do the job. Also, Atwood Vacation Rentals needs to do a better job of making sure guests have their check-in & check-out procedures (office hours, how to pick-up keys after office hours, etc.)clearly noted in the guests booking paperwork. If that isn't possible, then specific instructions to CALL the office prior to your visit to get that information, should be made clear.

We had a wonderful time on our first visit to Edisto Island and were happy with our decision to stay in the Glass House. The property was clean, had every thing we needed to be comfortable and had a fantastic location on the beach. The property is an older
beach cottage, but very nice and worked well for our small family. My husband and twin 5 year old boys and I will definitely return to Edisto and hope to stay in the Glass house again next year. -

Left on 07/25/2011 for a stay in July 2011
The only negatives I would offer is that the house didn't have a vacuum cleaner that worked very well. It has a rechargeable dust devil that was only useful for one or two minutes even after charging, even then it picked up VERY little. Also it appears that the cleaning service fails to clean under tables, chairs, etc very well. Other than that we had a great time and really liked the house. We really liked that Glass House is a true "beach house" and has lots of character. The sleeping porch and deck are great as is the location.

While the locations was great, as well as the overall feel of the house, I was scared to sleep at night as bugs were crawling all around. And, I couldn't step foot on the floors as they were covered in pet hair. The final complaint was that the silverware was disgusting - clearly someone used it all and returned it to the drawer without washing. Nonetheless, I had a fabulous, relaxing vacation with my family as the location was wonderful.

Ichose the Glass House for its charm with its cottage style and the beach front location. Though it advertised 3BR the one was not safe to use because of the mold. I also spent several hours cleaning the mold out of the window air conditioners vents and cleaned the filters. I also washed down alot of walls (spotted and grubby) I paid my rental fees and expected the usual clean environment I've found with previous rentals but was disappointed in the care and cleaning of this beautiful old dwelling. I would hope the Realty handling this rental would do a better job as it was a 21 night rental.

I gave a report to the agent about the air conditioner in the sleep room. There were comments (negative ) on the house from someone in our home town, we were already booked. We had chosen 2 properties before this one and lost both because the pet deposit could not be deleted. The second rental try we called in an this is the information given by the agent.

Great location, but the house is in really bad shape, even for an older beach house. The roof leaks in the bath and the adjacent bedroom. The third bedroom has a mildew odor so bad that no one could sleep there. And the sleeping porch is anything but. The property manager was very helpful when we complained about the cleanliness of the property. Again, great location on the beach and, with some repair, this house could a great rental.

Left on 07/27/2009 for a stay in July 2009
This trip was the 20th anniversary of our discovery of Edisto Beach. We have always stayed in the older cottages so know what to expect and we had a wonderful time. The only issues I would raise regarding the home is that their is not a clean or comfortable chair/couch in the house. We ended up sitting in the hard side chairs at both tables when we were not outside. We had perfect weather with only brief showers on our last day, during this rain we did notice the roof over the main bathroom sink leaked pretty badly.
Other than those two items we had no complaints. I would recommend this property with some caution about the age and condition of the furniture.Response from The Atwood Agency - 07/27/2009
