My family and I just arrived back from our stay @ Casa Hacienda about a week ago. However the memories and visions of paradise are still so fresh in our minds we still feel as though we are there.
Mattias was amazingly helpful right from the start answering all of questions promptly numerous times & really took the time to make sure we understood everything. Greatly appreciated...
El Cuyo it self is a very tiny fishing village in what seems like the middle of no ware.. However, it is the essence of beauty and its beaches/water pristine. Only time we saw other people "Tourists" was during the weekend of Easter and it was only for 2 days due to the festival they have their yearly.. Truly an amazing party and glad we were able to experience it. Other than those 2 days the beaches were all ours.
Casa Hacienda was perfect for my family as we have two teenage boys and a young daughter. We chose to rent the entire house as it comes with a king bed in one room w attached bath, and another room with 2 twin beds and attached bath. There is aC if it is too hot. Two T.V.'s and DVD players, as well as fully furnished with all cooking/eating materials. The house was perfect in all regards... Truly miss sitting on the front porch in the hammock with a Sol in my hand.
Highly recommend renting a car so that you may travel an hr or so in different directions and see the wonders of Yucatan that lie an 1hr or so away. Cenotes, & Pyramids are breathtaking.
Remiga & here family are the best... if we had room in our bags I am sure we would have taken them home with us. She took care of every need or question we had and make the best food around. You must try her fish!!! She constantly made us feel like family..
I highly recommend this area and this casa to anyone who is looking for the best beaches without all the people & hustle and bustle. Its ruff, rare & divine, making it a magical and memorable Gem you must experience. Go now!!!

Wer animation, volle Strände und Disko will, sollte hier allerdings nicht her fahren.

If you are looking for a nice and quiet place in Yacatan, this is it! We stayed a week in El Cuyo with our 2 children: 3 years and 5 months old. And it was the best place. We really enjoyed our stay - and from our 6 week trip in Yucatan our stay in El Cuyo is one of the best memories from the trip.
El Cuyo is really of the beaten track, and it's a small, charming and friendly little town.
A word of advise: Rent a car during your stay - which we didn't. And with two children it's not the easiest place to get around without a car.
The Lighthouse is a cosy house placed only a few meters from the beach. It has very basic features - everything works fine, although it could use an upgrade in the kitchen: pots, pans and knives and these sort of things.
Thank's to Mattias for making our first visit to Yucatan very memorable! It's no wonder that our 3 year old son wants to go back to Mexico soon.

We spent 2 weeks in yucatan, cancun and el cuyo and just had a fantastic time. Villa Maya in cancun is so spacious and we felt right a way home: lots of rooms, perfectly equipped, and 2 great balconies and a porch.
We enjoyed our morning coffee on top of the roof with a nice view on our neighborhood.
Because we also rented a Volkswagen Bug from Mattias getting around in town and the outskirts was not a problem at all.
Mattias also gave us a mexican mobile phone, thus we had perfect security and orientation 24/7. It helped a lot and made the entire trip very smooth.
Mattias, thank you so much for everything. You not only have a wonderful family, you indeed made this trip very personal - we felt like being welcomed by family.

We stayed one week in this beautiful house, with wonderful people and and the spirit of great hospitality.
The place is clean, safe and simply fantastic: an awesome view on the beach, an inspirative atmosphere - a great way to escape from this hectical world. For people who are looking for a place to spent 'time out from this globe' - this is the place to be.
Access from cancun is easy. Mattias picked us up from the airport, passed us his mobile phone and checked on us several times if we are doing fine. The car we rented from him offered us a superb range of mobility and flexibility. Due to the excellent mobile contact we felt absolutely safe throughout our entire stay. A perfect guide, a caring friend, a generous landlord, and a wonderful family: we loved it!
Thanks for everything - we definitely will be back

Thanks for a great relaxing week week in Puerto del Cuyo. Away from the crowds! It really was a real Mexican experience mixed with adventure, a treat for all of our senses! We practically had the beach for ourselves and only had to share it with your other guests in your beautiful Lighthouse. We even became friends with the Family from Germany... The Villa was wonderful and clean, the beaches great, the food fresh and tasty, your caretaker and his family couldn't have been more helpful. We just relaxed on the beautiful white sandy beach, swam in the warm ocean, ate coconuts and drank the fresh coconut milk, then Christian came and prepared baked fish...absolutely wonderful. The pictures on your website don' t do it justice and have been accurate, thanks for all your help, as well as the easy and honesty throughout the reservation process.
We will be back! -

Elk Grove CAAdventure to El Cuyo, Yacatan and tranquility

The adventure begins. I am in Tizimin (south of El Cuyo) and happen into meeting and negotiating with a local property manager who handles property in El Cuyo. Deal done. WeI head to El Cuyo (a small fishing village with wonderful local charm) I am booked into Margaritaville's Caribbean Lighthouse Villa--- sight unseen. I was hoping for quaint, comfortable, and tranquil - and received more. I am guided by the local manager, who lives a short distance away with his family, to a home that is styled with a lighthouse turret. The accommodation fit my needs perfectly: two comfortable beds (I only needed one), refrigerator, microwave, hot plate, and utensils, and not surprising (but you can read about other places to stay that offer outdoor showers) an indoor shower. Across a sand road, between neighbors' homes, lay the Gulf of Mexico, all of maybe 50 yards. No noise, save one or two cars. I spot a few local beachcombers who are looking for wonderful shell treasures. I am wishing I was in turtle season, but the birdlife abounds. And, like the name says, I am enjoying my homemade margarita. (Don't forget to bring tequila, you can buy the rest - fresh limes and cane sugar, salt if needed, and time to make ice) El Cuyo is special, the people are helpful, and the tranquility marvelous.. I am going back next month, spending an extra day, going beachcombing, dining at a local restaurant (seafood, you think?), hit the beach including the lounges, and what ever else comes to mind - but not a lot. Of course, I will be staying at Margaritaville's Caribbean Lighthouse Villa. The Matthias Doehling family is wonderful in providing help and guidance for guests like myself. It is such a pleasure to have a place to stay where you feel like family before you arrive.

We first traveled to Mexico about 10 years ago. We loved the remoteness of Tulum and have been back three or four times since, but every time, we are disappointed by how much it has grown. El Cuyo is even smaller and more remote than Tulum was 10 years ago, and that's exactly what we were looking for.
Mattias wisely suggested shopping for groceries in Cancun. We bought a styrofoam ice chest and some food, but next time, I think we'll buy even more. We like to have fancy cheeses, etc. to snack on, and you won't find that in El Cuyo. We also bought wine and tequila in Cancun, which was a good idea.
When we arrived in El Cuyo, Juan, Ramiro, and Remiggio were at the Lighthouse to greet us. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. I'm embarrassed to say that we speak almost no Spanish, but Juan speaks excellent English, so we had no problem with communication. Most people in the town do not speak English, but with our Spanish/English dictionary and lots of hand signals, we were able to get by pretty well.
Juan set up a fly fishing day for my husband the second day we were there, but other than that, we spent all of our time on the beach. Basically, we had the whole beach to ourselves. It was perfect.
The Lighthouse Villa is very comfortable. The king size bed was the most comfortable bed we've slept on in all of our travels to Mexico. We had never rented a house before, but it was really nice to have a separate living area and kitchen.
At night, we watched Dvds that we had brought from home. The television doesn't get any English stations, so it's nice to have some movies of your own to watch.
The restaurants in town close early, so we never ate dinner in town. Instead, we ate dinner every night at the Iguana restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I can't say enough about how wonderful Juan and his coworkers were in accommodating all of our needs. We look forward to another visit!

What a wonderful Vacation...
Who does not want mass tourism and wouldlike to have a mile-long sandy beach alone must travel to Cuyo. It is so so beautiful there,... The sea is turquoise and the sand is white. we have found beautiful shells that got washed up on the shores overnight. The house has everything you need and it was spotless clean.
An absolute must: the Tour to Rio Lagartos with Juan in his Volkswagen Bettles. We only met nice people everywhere and felt very safe everywhere. We highly recommended this rental, if you want to explore more of Mexico and not a Tourist Trap.

We have stayed March 2009 6 days at Mattias Doehling's Villa del Faro, and we loved it. We have been received very friendly by the house caretaker Cristian. He was very helpful. He showed us the village "El Cuyo" and has given to us all necessary information to have a pleasant stay. The villa was clean, friendly and equipped with all necessary equipment which we need for cooking. The villa is only 100 meters from the beach away. It was always a pleasure to go out of the villa, to cross the white sandy beach and to jump into the warm clear azure water of the Gulf of Mexico. We have performed day trips to Chichen Itza, Tulum and Cancun. We liked best, that there have not been many tourists. El Cuyo is a typical small fisher village of Yucatan and the tourist development has not yet reached this beautiful region. It is an ideal spot for relaxing. The only thing which we did not liked, was that there was no radio in the villa and so the calm was not disturbed by us ;-).

The apartment was beautiful
Many, many thanks we have received the larger Villa! The only thing there was to complain about was that the room was not quite ready for our arrival, but was quickly done.
The directions the way, was perfect, we did not proceed.
It was really nice to be crushed especially living in a local fishing village and not to many tourists.
Thanks again for everything

I had stayed at Mattias Doehling's Villa del Faro, and loved it, but with four visitors from the US I needed a larger place. Hacienda Villa del Cuyo was perfect for us. It was very pretty, and cool, and there was plenty of room to sleep us all comfortably. As with Villa del Faro, the house was stocked with everything we needed for cooking and home entertaining--right down to the game boards and books. The most delicious thing was walking out the door, with the palms on both sides, right down that beautiful white sandy beach and into the Gulf of Mexico. There were plenty of chaise lounges for us all, and the shaded porch with a view to the water was lovely. Someone had said to watch at night for the turtles coming out of the water. I didn't see them, but when we were standing by the water as the sun was in its last stage of setting, a young man drove up in an ATV and asked me if I wanted to release this little thing that he had in his hand. It was a baby turtle! I put him (the turtle, not the young man) into the surf and watched him swim away. I still get a little choked up at the thought of those tiny flippered legs going every which way in the water. I wouldn't have had that experience if it wasn't for the house being where it was. It's a beautiful, restful place, and I look forward to staying there again and again.

The Lighthouse is wonderful. Having stayed last October in his Hacienda I knew that Mattias and his adorable wife, Gemi were gracious hosts and that the house would be ready for us, but i was concerned that the experience wouldn't be as nice because of the location of Villa del Faro. It turned out to be perfect, just steps from the beach. I'm Canadian and live in Cancun, so I really wanted a getaway and that's what I got. Peace and quiet, hammocks to swing in and blessed silence. It's a leisurely 10 minute stroll to town but on lazy days we arranged with the caretaker to bring us fresh caught fish for lunch so we wouldn't have to move beyond the front porch. On the weekend the Mexican families from Tizimin open up their cottages and the town gets busy...must have seen a dozen people walk by on the Sunday! If you are looking for an authentic experience in a quiet fishing village, and if you like uncrowded beaches and emerald water, this is the place for you. I once stayed at the hotel on the town square and there is no comparison. Talk to Mattias and he will see that you are in a charming home with all of the amenities you want and expect. Love that hot water in the shower. PLUS...you can have that great fish delivered for lunch!
