      Perfect base for exploring Moray

Left on 08/24/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Mayne House is ideal for a large group with lots of really spacious rooms including a bathroom on all three floors and a laundry room and boot room. The kitchen is really well equipped and we enjoyed cooking on an aga, but the highlight is the sun room where we spent most of our time in the house. That said we spent very little time inside as Mayne House is the perfect base for exploring Moray and all it has to offer. The grounds of the house are home to herons, red squirrels and pheasants and there's plenty of lawn space for cricket or football. Our top spots in the local area were Findhorn, Hopeman and Roseisle beaches and we also had a great day out at Landmark adventure park. It's a wonderful part of Scotland and we would highly recommend both the accommodation and the area for families who enjoy the outdoors.

Good size for families or groups

Left on 08/07/2012 for a stay in July 2012

We chose Mayne House for its size and location, as both were important to us for our extended family holiday.

Liked best: good location, near to the town and supermarkets, as we were self catering. Spacious house, with a separate sitting room for 'grown-ups' in addition to a family/sun room where everyone could eat together and watch TV. Two spacious bathrooms, both with a shower, and a ground-floor toilet too. Laundry room was very useful with two young children, also back porch area for dirty shoes and boots. Good wi-fi access on the ground floor of the property. Family kitchen, had plenty of crockery and cutlery. Lots of parking and outdoor space. Local park (swings, slide) within half a mile.

Liked least: No instructions for microwave/combi oven - not ideal when arriving late in the day with two children! Aga made kitchen very hot all the time (would be ok in the winter). Fridge door broken, difficult to open. Not enough towels for everyone, and no spare bedding in case of accidents. No access to the summerhouse, no garden furniture, no barbeque. Disappointing lack of current local information - would have been useful to have had leaflets about local attractions, menus for restaurants and take-aways, details of walks, etc.

Despite the dislikes, we had a very good holiday and will undoubtedly return to the area in the future. The scenery is breathtaking and Elgin provides a good base for visiting many local attractions. Mayne House would certainly suit families and large groups, as it has five bedrooms and two bathrooms on two floors, with the living space and a separate toilet on the ground floor.
