Description

Rustic house Kalliopi offers great views over the nearby hills with olive groves. It lies at the edge of Mavrikiano, a small settlement built at the top of a hill, right above the Mirabello bay and the seaside village of Elounda. Even though this area lies, practically at the edge of Elounda, one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, Mavrikiano village, manages to keep its character of a typical Cretan village and thus you, our visitor, can wonderfully combine, the simplicity of village life with the cosmopolitan lifestyle of Elounda. The beach lies just 8min walk away.

''Kalliopi'' used to be part of an old Church demolished by the Turks at the end of the 15th century. It has been rebuilt using only stone and wood with respectful reverence to the traditional style and history of the property and with the help of the local people and their stories.

The house's entrance Gate leads to a wooden veranda with a dinning table for 4. There is also the front door. On entering Kalliopi to the right is the main room with the sitting area with two single beds and a fireplace. To the left is the dinning area and kitchen. In the centre, towards the back of the house lies a full sized bathroom with Jacuzzi. The wooden stairs lead to the attic/loft area , ''the Oddas'', with a large double bed.

All rooms are laid out just like the old Cretan houses were originally built, meaning that you must walk through one space in order to reach the next. Therefore, there are no in-between doors, except for the bathroom, of course. ''ODDAS'' ( the master bedroom) is a mezzanine wooden floor which doesn't have a solid wall to separate it from the living area below.

Furniture, fittings and decorative items are replicas of original pieces, which were found at the house during the restoration works and are presently exhibited in the Historical Museum of Crete in Heraklion. The house has been especially set up for holiday makers who love authentic, local architecture and everything inside it lies right there for YOU, our valued guests, to use, observe and admire!
