Wildloon is the featured log home at Loon's Echo Wilderness Retreat. In Wildloon, you will enjoy all the amenities of home while being surrounded by a mature pine forest. The hand-scribed log home, Wildloon, is placed on a rock outcropping that overlooks eight-mile lake with miles of undeveloped shoreline; miles of canoeing, hiking, biking, and snowshoeing trails right outside your door. Wildloon is part of a true wilderness retreat that only has 2 cabins available for rent. You will have your own private dock, and access to miles of wilderness. It is located in Northern Minnesota a few miles west of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.... It is like having a cabin on your campsite in the wilderness. Read a book, work a puzzle, watch TV, or listen to your favorite CD while sitting in front of one of the two classic stone fireplaces. Perfect for a get-away weekend, family vacation, or a girls get-together.

Wildloon Log Home:

The featured log home is Wildloon, a 2 bedroom luxury log home. Originally Wildloon was a 1920's hand-hewn log lodge, built in the Boundary waters. In 1993, it was strategically placed on a rock outcropping facing the lake surrounded by red and white pines. The view from the front porch is spectacular--a great place to have morning coffee, watch the hummingbirds, or enjoy a glass of wine with the sunset in the evening. While maintaining the natural character of the lodge, Wildloon has become your luxury vacation home. The unique gourmet kitchen includes many conveniences: microwave, dishwasher, refrigerator, kitchen-aide mixer, electric griddle, and an antique style 6-burner gas stove. The gas grill out back is ready for your freshly caught walleye. The upstairs of this tri-level log home features a full bathroom and two bedrooms--one with a queen log bed, the other with a full log bed. The back stone porch includes a full-sized futon along with a second bath with shower. Sleeps 6

If you have a large group our property also features a small guest cabin, Mallard that may be rented.

Mallard is a small 1 bedroom log cabin with a beautiful screened in back porch that overlooks the water and mature pine forest. Mallard contains a full bath and kitchen so part of the group can be indepedent from the guests in Wildloon.

Wildloon is set in a wilderness location, 20 miles from even a gas station. We have 20 acres of mature pine forest and 1300 feet of water. Loon's Echo Wilderness Retreat is located just 3 miles West of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in Northern Minnesota. It is about 50 miles WEST of Ely and 40 miles EAST of Orr, Minnesota. It is like you have a cabin at your wilderness campsite. Forget your worries as you relax on our porch, gaze at the sunset, or listen to the loons. We have paddled the four miles up to Table Rock falls and never saw another canoe or boat. We are very secluded. It is like having a luxury log home on your campsite in the wilderness. Come and enjoy the beauty and solitude of the BWCAW from the comfort of our log home! Canoes and mountain bikes are included with your rental of our Wildloon Log Home.

Area attractions:

Loon's Echo Wilderness Retreat has 20 acres and 1300 feet of waterfront is available for your use. We are located on the chain of lakes of the wild and scenic Vermilion River (Vermilion River Lake) and only a few miles from the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness and Voyageur National Park. There are numerous waterfalls and rapids within a few hours paddle of the retreat. You can hike or snowshoe our 20 miles of trails. There are over 100 miles of abandoned logging roads that offer additional hiking and excellent mountain biking opportunities. Points of interest include: Table Rock Falls, Vermilion Falls, Vermilion River Gorge, Astrid Lake Trails, and Devils' Cascade Trail. Majestic bluffs, hidden lakes, waterfalls, berry patches and a canoe paddle to ancient Indian pictographs will lure you onto the water and into the wilderness.Read more

Most of our guests drive down the wilderness Echo Trail to reach our log home. If you need to fly in, most will fly into Minneapolis and rent a car to drive the last 5 hours to this retreat. Hibbing and International Falls are 2 hours from Wildoon; Duluth is 3 hours away.
