Crew's Nest is a small, older cottage right on the beach, with a beautiful view of the beach and the ocean from the deck. The kitchen is well-equipped but very small. We especially appreciated the dolls and toys in one bedroom closet, which our granddaughter loved. The house could use some repairs and attention, though. In particular, the deck was old and (dangerously) uneven. There is no walkway from the deck to the beach, so you have to walk on the dune to get there (even though a sign on the deck says "Do not walk on dune"!). The sliding glass doors to the deck are difficult to open, close, and lock. Emerald Isle Realty was very prompt and helpful in fixing some things for us (e.g. the outdoor shower fixtures), but of course could not do everything that needed to be done. We also saw two roaches during the week.

This is the second time we've stayed at crews nest. we love the house. there were some ants this year, and we saw a roach. other than that, great.

First vacation to EI. The house is too cluttered with furniture. However, it was clean and the kitchen had everything we needed.

great spot to relax after too busy careers! house is in a wonderful spot; kitchen is tiny and we tend to cook a lot. we have stayed 3 years at this house and hope to return for a fourth year.

We had a really nice time at the Ocean. This was our fourth time on the island. The house was nice however it needs some work on the doors. We would consider the same house for future vacations, but our family is getting bigger with grand babies on the way and spouses.

We had a great time with three little girls, our grandchildren. They enjoyed the boogie boarding, spotlighting crabs on the beach at night ( and picking them up by hand!), and swimming in the surf. They enjoyed climbing around the Fort and visiting the aquarium. It was a hot, hot July, and the air conditioning was broken for two days. We did get later relief from window air conditioners, but the first couple of days were rough, and prevented us from cooking seafood the way we ususally do.

The toilet in the master bath constantly would refill, making noise and wasting water. We reported the problem Monday morning and were never able to get the problem corrected. The faucets in the master bath are backward (?) both my wife and I felt stranded when we couldn't figure out how to turn off the water.
We had grave doubts about the water quality. There seemed to be dirt in the water and it turned our iced tea a funny, muddy color.

I will let you know that the water on the island is very hard. Some properties do have a water softener but most do not. I recommend boiling water prior to using it to make drinks. Also, adding a rinse agent or even tang drink mix to your dishwasher, along with dishwasher detergent, will prevent build up on dishes. I'm happy to let you know that the issue you mentioned with the water backing up has been remedied.

The service from Emerald Isle Realty is always awesome. The home wasn't as nice of the home we stayed at the year before for around the same price. I don't think I would rent again for the price they were wanting for it. Home seemed very dated and the kitchen was very small, however for my family it was fine. We had a beautiful week of weather so honestly we weren't in the house very much!

We were in Emerald Isle the week of July 12. The beach was beautiful. The deck was so awesome to sit on at night and see the moonlight on the water. But as soon as you went into the home it went downhill. A terrible musty smell hits you in the face as you enter and doesn't go away, even after we sprayed almost a whole bottle of febreze around. Don't even open the closets, it worse in there. We brought this smell home with us. The sink in the master bath and the tub in the main bath were both very slow draining. If you walk on the carpet in your bare feet you get a dirty feeling. The water was tinted orange. The dishwasher was not worth using, everything had to be hand washed. There were broken towel bars, the plumbing fixtures were very old and difficult for me to turn on and off. (I turned 53 at the beach, I am healthy.) They advertized that there was a charcoal grill and there was but it was so nasty we chose not to use it. In closing, we felt that we paid way to much for the quality of this home. Last year we had a home, same size, same view, same price that was much more worth our money.

I'm disappointed to hear that your vacation home was not your satisfaction. We urge all of our guests to communicate with us on how we can make your stay better. If you are ever unhappy with the condition of the home please call us the day of your arrival and we will send techs to your home to make sure that you and your family are satisfied. I would have liked the opportunity to investigate the smell so that you and your family didn't have to put up with it while you were here. We very well could have fixed it by getting the carpets and furniture cleaned for you.
The drains due tend to get clogged with as many vacationing families that our in and out of our homes. A quick call to our maintenance department and they would have come out to unclog your drains, repaired your dishwasher, figured out why your water was orange, reattached the towel bars and replaced or made the use of the plumbing fixtures better for you. We do ask that our guests clean the grills after their use. I'm sorry that the last guests did not do that for you, I'm sure the guests that checked in after you felt the same way.
I have gone back through our work orders while you and your family were here and we did not hear from you on any of these issues. We can not make you happy if we don't know what is making you unhappy. We want all of our vacationing families to have a great time while you are here on beautiful Emerald Isle. Next time, please call us so that we can take care of these issues while you are here!

We had a wonerful week at the Crew's Nest. This was our first vaction here and it will not be our last.
The house was located right on the beach, which made it great for our 3 year old to get an early start everyday searching for seashells and watching the dolphins swim by. A big plus was the outdoor shower and the washer and dryer. (Didn't have to bring home any dirty laundry)
The island had alot of adventures to keep everyone of all ages occupied.

This house is great - especially having small children. The amount of toys and games available were great. The single floor is spacious and there is plenty of room. The covered deck was perfect for the blow-up pool. Great rocking chairs!! Loved the fact that the gates on the decks had safety latches. Highly recommend this house!

We had a very nice week. The toilet in one of the bathrooms was stopped up, but when we placed a call to housekeeping it was taken care of right away. We have stayed with Emeral Isle Realty in the past and have never had a problem that they didn't take care of as soon as they could. The house was in very nice condition, but the shower in the master bedroom could use an upgrade. Other than taht, the house was in nice condition.

Like that this cottage is oceanfront. The one thing I wish that would change is to allow pets. Kitchen is on the small side but for 2 people is great.
