Carolonina Dune East was exceptionally clean one of the nicest places we have stayed. Hospitality Service was very prompt when needed. Guests need to know can't see the beach from the first floor. Wonderful views from 2nd floor and deck view

We have been vacationing at Emerald Isle for 36 straight years. We just love the beach, and all the many reasons there are to come to heaven on Earth, "E.I". Our kids are now grown and they're vacationing with ther families there now as well.
See you in 2011!

This house is in a great location. It is very well equipped, except there is no frying pan. We love it (2nd stay here) except for the spiral staircasw. It is difficult to carry suitcases up it and for the children and older family members to navigate,

Manassas, VirginiaFirst time staying in a duplex
Left on 10/05/2009 for a stay in September 2009
This property is very nice and well furnished. We stayed 2 weeks enjoying every day. If I have to make any negative comments they would concern issues that were beyond control of the realty comp.
We had trouble with the wireless internet connection with several laptops as well as no cell phone sevice in the house (this involved 3 different carriers). We had to go outside to the back porch or the dune deck to recieve or make calls and for those of us that are baby boomers, the spiral staircase can be a challenge, but we did master it!
We have been vacationing in Emerald Isle for 20 years and this was our first experience in a duplex. You do take a chance with neighbors sharing a deck and walkway, it is difficult to find an affordable oceanfront property to stay 2 weeks and bring pets. The first week we had a very enjoyable family sharing the house but the second week we were not as fortunate and had a few small problems.
Overall this is a nice property with the only big disappoint being the inability to see the beach from the deck. Of course it is difficult to determine this from the listing and the booking agents cannot be expected to know all of the properties.
Emerald Isle realty is wonderful and very responsive to any needs. They are friendly and do make your stay as problem free as possible. I was upset that we had to pay for a tax increase that was imposed after we had totally paid for our property. This should have not been retroactive, just charged for properties rented after the effective tax date. -

the duplex was nice and the staff at rental office was courteous, had one issue with rental of grill but they did all they could to resolve the issue. the week brought back memories of my childhood when all the family spent a week at the beach. the cottage was pet friendly which was nice to bring all family members along. I would recommend emerald isle tentals and carolina dunes east to anyone interested in a week at the beach.

My family and rented both sides. I liked the beds being already made. I like this area of the beach becousewe had rented Kenny cottage for 10 yrs. Last year we rented a different house with you guys and we didnt care for it it wasnt very clean and had cockroaches! I do like the Carolina Dune house becouse we can be close to each other yet have our own space! The only thing I would advise on their is redoing the bathroom with better waterproof boarding as it is getting bad and starting to mold from the moisture, i9f you use purple board(drywall) it would not do that. Also the outside light for the outside loundry area did not work. We always enjoy Emerald Isle! So of course we will be back next year!

We've vacationed at Emerald Isle many times since our kids were younger (now 25 & 19) with friends and family. The last time we were able to make it was the summer my oldest graduated from HS. College Expenses & other activities denied us the pleasure of a family vacation for several years.
Mid-summer the oldest mentioned going away again, suggested a "cruise" which was then out of the question :-) So then suggested Emerald Isle.
I found that the place we had previously stayed at had just been razed to build a newer home. I had to search again to find a house that met our expected criteria:
1. On the beach
2. Back porch with roof for my hubby who can't tolerate the sun too long, but wants to be near enough to see what's happening on the beach (son catching any fish yet?)
Since friends whom we previously had vacationed with still had kids in school, involved in fall sports etc., we chose to wait until early September when rates were down since it was just the 4 of us.
Previously we'd always rented a single family home with at least 4 bedrooms to accomadate 12 or more. I hesitated since this was a "duplex", but it turned out enjoyable. The vacationers on the opposite side were pleasant, had a dog who came to visit us (therefore we didn't miss our own dogs we left with a friend)
The Kitchen was wonderfull, very well equiped, I didn't find I had to buy anything to make something (as in the past, or bring from home). My son, then manager of a local restaraunt, part of a national chain was as impressed.
The kids were impressed with the circle stair case to the 2nd floor, my back (then in grief) couldn't handle it often, but that was ok, they did fine upstairs and even had their own porch off of both bedrooms to sit in the morning or evening to watch the scene.
Since my back was so bad at that time, I enjoyed the deck midway down the walkway to the ocean, especially with my coffee in the morning. The view was wonderfull.
The stay was wonderfull -

This was my second year staying at Carolina Dune. I chose this home because it was close to the beach and convenient. The owners did a nice job fixing the home up and it was affordable. I do think they need to get rid of the current couch as it was not very comfortable. Because it was a duplex, I think it is important to know who is staying next to you somehow (do they have kids, are they older, etc.) They were loud and this did not make it relaxing to sit outside and they also had extra people come.If you are someone who is not bothered by these types of things, then this would not be a big deal. We looked at it like we were not inside much and the view and proximety to the ocean were worth it for sure. The fact that you can bring your dog was a big bonus to us! And the views and location of the ocean were incredible.
