      Very nice modest home

Left on 04/04/2013 for a stay in August 2012

We just wanted a beachfront home with 3 bedrooms. This was very comfortable and convenient. For the price and location - this was a great value for oceanfront.

      Better outside than in...

Left on 04/04/2013 for a stay in July 2012

The location of this house is amazing but the inside leaves lots to be desired. The kitchen has limited cooking equipment as in there were about five very used frying pans but little else. The upstairs bedroom is hot the air barely makes it up there and the fan had so much dust and dirt on it I had to clean before turning it on because the air conditioning does not get upstairs without it!
The outside shower is dangerous...it is so low that one of our group hit his head on a beam (that should have warning tape on it!) and was knocked down.
But again the beach front location can't be beat but for what it costs the owners could work on the inside.

      I visit was unique.

Left on 07/18/2012 for a stay in June 2012

The cottage has a very steep drive and makes parking more than one car difficult. The outside of the cottage needs some cosmetic updates...loose boards on deck and stairs, painting around bottom of cottage, brush and overgrowth of bushes need to be trimmed, etc. The inside was more up-to-date and the air conditioning worked well considering it was oceanfront; however the upstairs did tend to get very warm. A lack of Washer and dryer was not a huge issue, but it would have been nice. Enclosing the bottom of the cottage may be a good future idea...create more room and add laundry area. We enjoyed our week all in all, but probably would not rent this cottage again.

      Disappointing house, beautiful location

Left on 08/16/2011 for a stay in July 2011

Overall, this house is just what i said. Overwhelmingly disappointing from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out. Upon entering, it smelled like a well used ashtray mixed with a film of mildew and it didnt get any better from there. The furniture is fine I guess, but there are serious dust balls underneath the couches and in corners. The small carpet underneath the table is warped in the corners and taped down with duct tape. (Unsuccessfully) The kitchen hasnt been updated in over 40 years and I was leery of even opening some cabinets. The pots and pans had visible rust on the bottom and the colander had dried up corn silk in it. Yuck. One of the bunkbeds had several large cockroach-type bugs in it, but they didnt come back after I removed them. Thankfully we just moved him to a different bed. The loft is a sauna even with the air conditioner on and the beds are rather uncomfortable.

The view was beautiful and I was very happy to have been able to stay right on the beach. It was very convenient with small children. The deck was ok, but there was no umbrella or shade of any type, so there was no way to get out of the sun at all unless we went inside.

Lastly, I got an overall rash from the linen service at the rental and had to wash all the linens and towels before I used them. Note: no washer/dryer or dishwasher, so this made it tough.

When asked to review this, the company mentioned that this is someone's house and I should try to be respectful. Many apologies to the owner, but I have few nice things to say. The house needs an overhaul and a good clean. Unfortunately I doubt I will ever be in Emerald Isle again and this is the memory of the house we are left with. Its a shame because the beach is really nice and the rest of the houses seemed fine. And frankly, we didnt get this house cheap. It was just a cheap house.

      Suggestion: steer clear.

Left on 07/28/2011 for a stay in July 2011

the house location is perfect but unfortunately the house itself is below standards. There were bugs in the master bedrrom, the fans so old not safe to use (hooked up with extension cords) and rusty. No dishwasher/ washer/dryer makes it very difficult - not something you want on a vacation. No internet service also in this day and age makes this home outdated - again a difficulty no one wants on vacation (even though there is a service provider on the island, their service was done on Ocean Dr so had to go to the rental agency to get service - again had to interrupt beach time - since the agency runs w/ standard business hours). The house inside needs to be painted, bedspreads replaced; upgrades as mentioned. Outside the stairwell is not safe (boards on side of house rotted away leaving no protection against falling.

      Home away from home.

Left on 07/19/2011 for a stay in May 2011

We arrived and the house was hot. It cooled fast when the air was turned on. It was in the upper 80's and 90's when we stayed. The upstairs bedroom was great. It didn't get hot unless you closed the vent upstairs and left the fans off for long period of time. The Kitchen was well stocked except for a dishwasher. this would be an added bonus since you are on vacation and do not plan to wash dishes all week. So we bought paper products mostly so we wouldn't have to. Also it does Not have a washer or dryer. This was not such a big deal for us, it may for others. We brought along My mom and dad there very first trip oceanfront. They loved it and so did our fur-babies. This home is pet friendly which is a plus. The house was very clean. The view from the upstairs was awsome. The room with bunk-beds is crowed for two teen girls. Also the beds are in need of some repair. I wouldn't let them sleep on the top bunks. The deck outside is Superfantastic and we stayed outside most of the time. I loved that the home felt like home. We will be staying again. Emerald isle made our vacation better.

Great Surf-fishing! Lots of Shells to find. This is the wonderful view from upstairs Bedroom. Wonderful, Peaceful Home away from Home. Short walk to the beach!

Left on 09/15/2010 for a stay in September 2010

Location of the cottagen is perfect - that's about all the good feedback I have for the cottage.

The list is almost too long to remember it all - paint peeling from the walls, dirty dishes in the kitchen cabinets, planks so old that they are peeling off the deck, hazardous access to water pipes underneath the house, and last but not least a house over run by roaches. Even the pest services guy stated that there is not much they can do - it's up to the home owner to make sure that the house is kept clean and nooks and crannies are filled, top prevent access. Not to mention the lack of cleanliness - crushed roaches were left on walls. Overall, we may visit the island again but definetely not stay at this propoerty. This house needs a good refresh!

For the most part it was wonderful. Just wish the upstairs bedroom was cooler. We kept door closed. Didn't help much. Couldn't sleep up there. So I slept on a bunkbed, which was comfortable. Wish there was a washer/dryer. Just assumed there would be - oops. Other than that, great place!

Left on 05/12/2010 for a stay in May 2010

Upon arrival the cottage had not been prepared for guest, the air was not on
so it was hot and stuffy. Missed washer and drier. Did not really like having to
take linens out of a duffle bag. Should bring your own sheets, I have never
      ever seen such thin sheets.

However the cottage itself was nice, wonderful view, steps to the beach. Nice
      decor for a beach house.

Although there were a few issues, they were minor and I would return again
      with my own sheets.

The agent at Emerald realty made this last minute trip a reality. She sent me options, and completed all the necessary arrangements to have a house for us in one week. The house was paces from the beach-breathtaking. The children were in their glory swimming all day and fishing until late at night. We were two houses away (thanks to the agent) from the wedding my grandaughters were attendants in which made life much easier. We wish we had more time to spend...it was a wonderful short vacation.

Had a great time! The house was perfect for
us (me, my wife and our dog. We picked this week to avoid the hustle and bustle of the in season crowds. We did what we wanted to do when we wanted to do it--just what we planned out to do, relax and be with my wife and fur baby.
The only problem we had with the house was that the sliding screen doors were not working properly-- they did not close. But I was able to repair them myself due to the fact I am very handy at house hold repairs.

We will definatly consider coming back to this house next year. Thank you for assisting us with our vacation.

      A week at the Beach

Left on 02/06/2009 for a stay in August 2008

Gone Coastal is a wonderful cottage on the beach at Emerald Isle. The
cottage features new furniture and flooring (hardwood) and a
delightful view of the ocean from the living/dinning area. My wife and
I spend a week here during the summer of 2008.

The cottage's appliances are all in good working order. This cottage
does lack a washing machine and dryer and that can be an inconvenience especially considering we traveled to Swansboro to find
a laundromat. Also missing is a dishwasher which we considered only
      a minor issue.

Overall this is a very nice cottage at a reasonable price for a family
      vacation

      Cozy Cottage

Left on 01/28/2009 for a stay in July 2008

Our one week stay at Gone Coastal was enjoyable and the cottage suited our needs. While we experienced a few, mostly minor issues, we found it to be attractively furnished and decorated, comfortable and just the right size for my husband, 3 year old and myself.

We particularly liked the view from and utility of the double sliding doors overlooking the deck, beach and ocean. We also liked the ocean view through the large window across from the 2nd floor landing. The owners had several childrens' books and puzzles available, which were a nice bonus.

We should have read the description better, because we were disappointed to find no dishwasher or washer/dryer. Also, the front door and lock were warped and we had difficulty closing and locking; not too much of a problem, we just came and went through the sliders most of the time. The few times we left the cottage to go out took a few extra minutes to struggle with it. The microwave stopped working one morning during one of the first days of our stay. Not to worry, EI Realty installed a brand new one before lunch the same day; we didn't miss a beat!

Two issues of that were a bit more of a problem: 1the A/C unit did not cool evenly. It took some time after our arrival to cool the cottage down. The downstairs areas actually became chilly at night-we needed extra blankets for our son-but we ended up using two fans blowing directly on us in the upstairs bedroom to stay cool enough at night. We gave up expecting it to be cool upstairs during the day-not much of an issue, since we really only used that room to sleep. 2The cottage had a musty odor, strong enough that it bothered me at first. After the second day I kinda got used to it, and refused to let it interfere with an otherwise charming, comfortable cottage.

If you are familiar with the older cottages, you know that these problems aren't unique to this unit. If you don't mind being a little flexible, this cottage is really a great value! We'll go again.

Thank you for your review of your stay at Gone Coastal. It pleases me to know how well this home fit your family's needs and desires.

I am sorry you had some issues with the air conditioner. As you mentioned, this is a common issue among rentals in our area as sometimes the humidity is impossible to keep up with. Certainly, properties do take longer to cool on check in/out day due to the doors being left open longer in the packing/unpacking process.

My sister and I live in different states, have families of our own and haven't vacationed together since we were children. Just the two of us stayed at Gone Coastal for the week and it was incredible! Almost five months later she's still talking about how much fun it was (she lives in FL, I here in NC) and wanting to do it again, just the two of us.
One slight problem with Gone Coastal, upstairs gets extremely hot during the day, but I just avoided the bedroom until time to go to bed and it was cooled down by then.
What a wonderful experience for two sisters, ages 55 and 52, to have down time together with absolutely no responsibilities!
