We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bored of Education! The house was clean, uncluttered, and very spacious! When we get away, we love to relax... The street was so quiet and great for early morning walks. The ocean view and access was perfect. How nice to be able to open the sliding doors and let the fresh ocean breezes through the whole house!

Nicely decorated, kitchen was well equipped. The only downside was the last two nights we were there, I saw a roach in the kitchen. Glad our stay was almost over! The house was scheduled for the exterminator the following week.

We totally enjoyed this unit and getaway with our pets.

This place is 100% awesome! Perfect location, lots of room and met all of our expectations. The only issue we had was w/ the upstairs sliding door... you will have a complete upper body workout trying to open/close it. But that's minor considering how clean and spacious this place was. We will definitely return to this rental, but will have to eat our Wheaties each morning if the door issue isn't addressed. :) Thanks for a wonderful week Emerald Isle Realty!

We enjoyed our stay at Boee. There were a couple of windows without screens, but at this time of year it wasn't a huge inconvenience. The drain in the downstairs shower was very slow and the house a little older, but it was a great value and we loved the location! Was worried about renting a duplex, but never heard our neighbor. I took my 22 yo son and his friend and they loved the house. The only negative thing I might say is that there were many pet stains throughout the house. As this is a pet friendly rental I do understand, but thought that the deposit would be used to clean up after previous renters animals. It was a little bit offputting at first until we opened windows as there was a lingering "cat smell" in the house. Once aired out, it was fine though. Just something the owner might want to check into.

We really enjoyed our stay! The location was excellent, and the interior layout of the house was designed to maximize the views of the ocean. It was very clean and we felt quite comfortable. The only downside that I noted was that the decks were on the small side. Just enough space for about 2 chairs. But overall we had a great time and would rent Bored of Education again!

Check-in, as always, was a breeze. The island was lovely, the beach was fabulous and we were happy to be in Emerald Isle. But this rental is the second worst place I've ever rented in the 15 years that I've been coming here.
Arrived at the rental and was immediately hit with a musty odor. Everyone in the family was stuffed up all week because of this problem. I reported this problem to the rental agency and the next day they sent some Damp Rid products and that helped to mask the odor a bit, but didn't help with our allergies.
Within an hour a two of being at the rental, the downstair toilet was backed up and couldn't be unplugged with the plunger. The rental agency sent their "plumber" and his assistant out. They had to snake the toilet to get it unplugged.
The couch cushions are ripped and foam is visible. The carpet is stained and dirty. The upstairs blinds are missing or broken. The windows and doors have their screens removed. The sliding glass doors do not slide easily. The oven is hotter than you think so your food will burn. A couple of the DVD players don't work. The shower in the downstairs bathroom leaks water - A LOT of water.
The second night I saw roaches in the kitchen. The family in the west duplex also saw roaches on a daily basis.
The locals do not obey the poop-scooper law. Many times I witnessed a couple of very large dogs depositing "presents" on our lawn.
If you read over the reviews, you will find that many of the things I've stated here have been an issue for a while. I was surprised to find that they were still an issue for my visit. I guess EIR does not read the reviews on this site. So my best advice is to only rent this place if you can roll with the above issues during your stay. Or ask EIR if they've been corrected before you rent.

Only downside is if there is a large family next door.

We had stayed at this home before, so we were looking forward to a two week stay, a real treat for us. The home was in great shape and we had everything we could ever need. We started having "bugs"(we call them roaches in Ohio!) on the second night. We called and they did come to spray and we bought some spray and bait (we were reimbursed). The bait seemed to slow them down and the many we saw were near death. One ran across the stove though in BROAD daylight! We saw them EVERY night (both up and down) and I slept with the lights on for my peace of mind! Any room that was dark all night had roaches in the morning, dead or dying. I can't say that I slept well the whole two weeks. We have been at Emerald Isle numerous times and this was the first time we had roaches. We spent a lot of money to be bothered by them. More frequent spraying seems in order, each week if necessary!

I am sorry to hear of your encounter with bugs during your stay. Our properties are treated regularly to keep pests at bay, but as you suggested, an additional treatment is needed from time to time. Also, some years are worse than others for bugs. Once a property is sprayed, it can take time for the bugs to completely dissipate which is why you were finding dead ones.

we have stayed in BOE many times over the past 15 years- This year we were
struck by how little is is kept up- and how run down it is getting- the toilets
were always clogging - the kitchen sink too- the dishwasher does not clean
too well- there was a hole in the ceiling of the hallway- the bathtub dripped-
the sliding doors were stuck- we love it there but this is the first year we

First time to Emerald Isle. Location was nice, a bit away from town, so fairly quiet. The duplex was nice for the money. Being a dog friendly place you need to expect the worse, but it wasn't bad. The rugs were nasty so I wore my flipflops. The sliding doors are very hard to open (probably due to salt air). Overall, place was very roomy and decor was nice.

This is a fantastic home. The reverse floor plan allows maximum views from the living spaces on the top floor. We have stayed here for the last four years and have loved every visit. This year however it some things weren't quite up to par. There was a hole in the ceiling obviously created by a plumbing leak. The leak had been fixed but the ceiling had not, even though the unit had been vacant the week before we arrived. The handle on the outdoor shower had completely rusted off and was unusable. We didn't use the outdoor shower so it wasn't a problem for us. There were also missing boards underneath the house in the carport area allowing insulation to just hang out. None of these items were show stoppers just indications of a lack ability of interest in property maintenance. The one item we did call in to property management, a broken dvd player was replaced immediately. I whole heartedly recommend for 2010. I would have to assume all these things will be fixed by then.

We like this quiet end of Emerald Isle and the beach access was perfect. The place is fairly comfortable and clean but as far as I could tell, it has not had any maintenance since we were last there, 7 years ago. The furniture is now ripped and worn, the outdoor shower doesn't work, you can barely open the sliding glass doors from the effects of salt corrosion, there is a hole in the ceiling from a leak, the stove fan drips disgusting grease down into the food and some of the blankets should be replaced. You always need a bit of luck when picking a duplex and unfortunately our neighbor had many inhabitants with numerous loud children and dogs so I'm sure that tainted the experience. Call us old grumps, but we won't take a chance on this place or any other duplex again. With a little bit of attention, however, it could regain it's silver rating.

The condo is very clean and comfortable for a family stay. Everything I needed for use to cook was stocked in the kitchen which is not the case with all rentals. Plenty of dishes too. Nice size with plenty of space for 2 couples and 2 children.

We enjoyed staying here. It is a dog friendly cottage and that is why we rented here. The only thing we feel should be improved is the bathrooms. The rest of the cottage was great.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay last September, even though a hurricane chose to visit the last two days of our visit. The duplex was great. A Yorkshire Terrier, Sugar Bear, enjoyed his visit too. Thanks for having pet friendly accommodations available for families who travel with their pet children. We'll definitely use Emerald Isle Realty again for our vacation needs.
